I have been coming here off and on for 20 years. The food remains fantastic. Service is great although they do have a couple of new people that aren't quite as friendly. Soup is always fresh and tasty, everything is actually.

I've been eating here for 44 years. One of the waitresses from then is still here. Hands-down, the BEST Cantonese restaurant in Edmonton. I've eaten pretty much everything on the menu, including what my asian friends call "the nasty stuff," like beef tripe, black egg, organ-meat congee, and any variety of tofu. All of it tasty and filling. Eat in or take-out!

My first visit here was in 1987. It was inexpensive and the food was excellent. Thirty six years later in 2023 and the food was still excellent. Friday night and a lineup at the door waiting for a table. The portions were large enough that there was 2 meals in one for 3 people. Cost, $40 plus tip. Yes, one of the waitresses still works there from 1987 too.

Over the Christmas holidays, my family and I had two meals at Double Greeting Won Ton House: first dinner, and then lunch the next day.
We found this place very convenient right downtown near Jasper Avenue and across the street from our hotel, but for me, the location was probably the stronger factor than the food itself.
However, Chinese food in a pinch in Edmonton? That's what Double Greeting was.
For the first meal, my family and I ordered spicy tofu on rice, special fried rice, rice soup with duck egg and shredded pork, onion pancake, and three bowls of ramen with beef tendon and won tons.
The ramen was piping hot and tasty, and so was the rice soup.
But the two plates of rice were rather dry. Spicy tofu on rice did not have the pickles we expected, and the special fried rice had very little taste.
Altogether, our dinner for six people came to just under $70.
The next day when my husband and I went to Double Greeting for lunch without other family members, we ordered what was good from our experience: rice soup with duck egg and shredded pork, and instead of rice, we ordered a bowl of ramen with bbq pork. We also had a long doughnut to go with the rice soup, plus hot lemon tea to chase away the cold.
Our lunch was good but not spectacular, even though the tea was hot and steeped, with three slices of lemon.
The bill came to just over $20 for the two of us.
I would still recommend Double Greeting more for convenience than its culinary quality, but if one knows what to order, the eating experience may be okay.
Thank you.

We were staying nearby and needed something close and quick to eat. This restaurant did meet our needs in that way. We had the meat and veggie fried rice (we wish there had been more veg but it was otherwise okay) and the ginger beef. The ginger beef was served with sauce on the side, and without the sauce, the meat would have been much too dry. With the sauce, it was palatable, but nothing to write home about. Portions were generous. They offer only take-out service, which is a good thing, as there are several homeless services very nearby, making it a hard sell as a sit-down place to eat. And on top of all that, there's a huge construction project going on outside the restaurant, so it was a bit difficult to get to.

The service is friendly, efficient and accommodating. The portions are generous (except for the spicy squid) and the prices are lower than other Chinese places - for a reason. I've been here a few times over a span of more than 20 years and it's hit and miss sometimes.
Every restaurant has dishes they specialize in and we just didn't order the right dishes today.
We tried the hunan chicken - I did not know it came with such an enormous platter of fried garlic rice with a quarter of a boiled cold chicken. This traditional peasant dish is not difficult to prepare, and I definitely wouldn't recommend anyone get this dish here unless you absolutely need your hunan chicken today.
The house special fried rice was not the worst I've ever had and almost bordered on good. My 8 year old foodie kid only ate half a bowl, and he normally has 3 or 4 at other places.
The pork shanghai noodles were okay. I wish they put in some cabbage to make all the grease look more appetizing but today it's a few sour mustard greens.
The spicy salted squid was really good. It's a smaller appetitizer portion and it is extremely crispy. I didn't find it spicy at all.
The long donut wrapped in rice noodle was perfectly fresh and not salty at all. The kids devoured that.
I think next time we'll stick to the noodle soups like another reviewer suggested. I also noticed the lemon chicken portion another table ordered was huge.
Overall it'll be awhile before I come back.

The food had no taste, the Sweet and sour pork was soggy, special fried rice seem days old, the bok choy was rotten. The food was not edible had to toss in the garbage. I never post bad review but I had to share my experience. The worst $110.00 Ive ever spent.

Ginger beef, beef brisket, seafood with vegetables, fried rice. All excellent. Ive been frequenting this place since i was a child and, given the choice, it’s the only place id want to go to for chinese food. Sad the hours are shortened!

Freshest, best tasting and most reasonable Chinese food in Edmonton. Your food will arrive as it's cooked in no particular order. Bring cash as that's all they accept. And two thumbs up for excellent Covid protocols from checking QR codes and ID to socially seating patrons. GREAT JOB!

Nicest people! I love going here. You always get incredible food. Even though there is no dine in available due to Covid, take out was fast, fresh and fabulous as always. By the way this place is always impeccably clean. Thank you for the great service as usual!!

What this restaurant is NOT:
- it is not a high-end restaurant to take your first date
- it is not a "Seafood Restaurant" serving crab, lobster, oysters or geoduck, nor does it have more refined food like Peking duck or Jia Ji Gai roasted chicken
- it is not the type of Westernized Chinese restaurant like Lingnan where one orders pineapple chicken ball, chop suey, egg foo young or ginger beef, or won ton soup. Double Greetings does have some dishes like that but these dishes are not the main focus
Instead, Double Greetings is:
- a noodle house specializing in fried noodles (egg noodles - mein 麵, or the flat rice noodles - fun 粉), and rice dishes 碟頭飯. It also has "regular dishes" (called 小菜) like ma-po bean curd, hot pot etc. which one usually orders, and has to order bowls of rice separately. But I would say that's not what most regular customers order
- a "casual"place where you don't need to dress up. People going there wearing sweat pants would fit right in
- a place where locals go, especially with a few Chinese seniors mansions in the vicinity. Also many lone diners. Also many families
- an inexpensive restaurant where I can order a rice dish for dinner and pay $15, which is about what one pays at MacDonald's for a combo. Many times before going to a concert we would drop by this place and pay $40 or less for two, rather than paying $100+ at one of the restaurants near the Winspear Center, or the Citadel Theater.
- it is unpretentious. The waitresses have worked there for years. They are polite and efficient, and usually food comes fast
Once you sit down the waitress will bring a menu and a pen and order sheet. You write down what you want; the waitress will come back to pick up the order, or you can take your order to the counter.
Yes they only take cash - not unusual for a local mom-and-pop type of eatery. But there is an ATM machine at the entrance where one can get cash.
Whoever wants to pay the bill using US dollars (or any other currencies) in Canada, should be prepared to pay an unfavorable exchange rate even if the restaurant would take the foreign monies. Do not fault the restaurant for this.

It is always a pleasure to eat here! The food is fantastic, authentic, and I don't think I have EVER had a bad dish here! My dad used to bring me and my brother here when we were kids, and we loved it! Still do to this day!

I was introduced to Double Greeting 20 years ago. It is a staple for me since. It is in a tougher part of the city that is upgrading. The building looks rough on the outside and the decor is sparse. None of this keeps me from heading over once a month to have the BBQ Duck Lo Mein, or the salted deep fried squid. No one in the city makes it better.
I have never been disappointed, the food is always good and prices are reasonable.
Beware, currently access is tough while the city puts in the new Rapid transit line on the adjacent street.
