Food is a big part of the experience. A bakery is always on my list and this one does not disappoint. Some of the best sourdough we've had! Apple fritter was delicious as was the seafood chowder. Chowder was steaming hot and the bread was fresh! Was food this good during the gold rush! This place is a gem! Just wish we had gotten more sourdough bread!

The most amazing donuts ever. We were walking through town checking out all the cool old buildings and could see that some stores and restaurants were still operating. Saw the bakery was open and stopped by. The selection of baked goods was very generous. The selection of donuts were fantastic. If you are here you need to stop by.

Visited on a chilly, wet day and it was the perfect place to warm up! Their baked goods are HUGE - we ordered an apple fritter and a bismark donut and shared them between 4 of us - they were about $5 each.

Go early before they sell out! They will keep your items for you so you can pick them up later & so you don't have to carry them around.

Ambling about Barkerville during a pandemic was certainly a new experience. Understandably, there were a lot less people; a lot of the exhibits were closed; there was no theatre show; and restaurant dining options were reduced by one (the House Hotel & Saloon was closed). In some respects, I actually think this enhanced the experience because Barkerville both looked AND felt like a ghost town. There were many opportunities to shoot photos of bare streets, which is something I was unable to do last year pre-pandemic. Obviously, the pandemic isn’t a good thing, but the staff at Barkerville have demonstrated they know how to operate during the “new normal” (for a detailed account of Barkerville, please see my earlier review on this site). In the midst of exploring gold country, my partner and I were beginning to get a little peckish. We weren’t in the mood for Chinese food (too heavy) and the revised menu at the Wake-Up Jake failed to impress last year; thus, we were left with a single option: The Goldfield Bakery. For a couple looking to avoid an overly large meal, this seemed like an ideal choice. Barkerville’s Goldfield Bakery has gained a well-deserved reputation for its homemade breads, pastries and light lunch fare. As you enter the shop, one cannot help but be enticed by the smell of fresh-baked bread wafting through the air. It’s intoxicating and encourages you to see what else is on offer. Indeed, there’s certainly no shortage of choice. The glass display boasts a generous assortment of beverages, meat pies, cakes, cookies and pastries. The chalkboard menu above highlights the soups and sandwiches available for the day. After contemplating our choices, I opted for the Montreal Smoked Meat sandwich while my partner got a hot chocolate and a glazed donut. The price point, I should note, was very fair for homemade goods. Our light lunch was exceptionally good and, if I’m being blunt, it was far better than the mediocre cuisine had previously at the Wake-Up Jake. The sandwich was made on wonderful homemade bread; the cucumbers were crisp and fresh; the lettuce was vibrant and green; the cheese nicely complemented the other sandwich fixings; the mayo was evenly distributed, and the smoked meat was generous. When all is said and done, it was one of the better sandwiches I’ve had in a long while. Top this off with a fantastic glazed donut and you have all the hallmarks of a “must try” eatery. In fact, that donut was so good we just had to stop by on our way out and take a couple for the road. Seriously, this place gets praised over and over again for its sourdough bread, but those donuts . . . oh my! Outstanding! FOOD: 5/5 SERVICE: 5/5 VALUE: 5/5 RECOMMENDATION: While it would’ve been nice to have a soup and bun (!) at the House Hotel & Saloon, the Goldfield Bakery hit it out of the park. Our sandwich was fresh and expertly put together and the donuts were nothing short of amazing. If you’re visiting Barkerville and want a “light bite,” then I highly recommend the Goldfield Bakery! Seven thumbs up ;) PS: If you found this review helpful in any way please consider hitting the "helpful" button!

This place was busy and I can understand why. The delicious smell of baking wafts out onto the street and it is really hard to resist. I purchased a pastry and it was fantastic. Would recommend this place for a treat!

Served warm, The sausage rolls were some of the best I have ever tasted. The almond and chocolate croissants were also amazing. Picked up cookies and had them as an afternoon snack and they were great too. I would highly recommend grabbing some baking while you’re in Barkerville at this great spot.

Really enjoyed this place. The baking was awesome. Tasted like Grandmas house. Everything we tried was good and the soup was nice on a cold day. Staff was very nice!

Wow, smelled great when we walked in! Plenty of selection and fresh. Prices were reasonable. While we snacked, the staff were happily serving the constant flow of customers. Really wished I could have one of everything!

We have been coming to this place for about 20 years now, and it is always excellent. The freshly made custom sandwiches, good soups, cornish pasties and sausage rolls. Too many sweet treats to count and each and every one delicious. Buy one of the day olds at half price and realize this is what you get every day at the supermarket. Buy the fresh stuff from a proper bakery and enjoy! Grab a paper bag lunch, wander up to the river and have a picnic in the sun. Awesome.

We love this Bakery and always buy a couple of glazed biscuits every time we visit..... the lovely lady behind the counter said the best way to enjoy these biscuits is to microwave them for 20 secs and add a scoop of ice cream... needless to say we had to try this... all I can say is OMG ... delish!

We bought two loaves of bread to take home with us and a couple of sweet snacks. Everything was very good. It’s quite busy in there so you need to figure out what your buying quick. Highly recommend the raspberry cream puff!
