It was a risk, but a risk that paid off: we were headed to Boston Pizza for lunch, but thought that York St. Diner could possibly be tastier....and it was! My daughter and I shared a wonderful Reuben Sandwich and poutine: the gravy was rich and flavorful and the cheese curds large and squeaky. My son-in-law said his veggie burger was one of the best he'd ever had and the coffee was very good. Karina, our waitress was a star. All in all, a very positive experience.

We live in Duncan and have gone to the Diner many times - We have never had an issue until Friday, Oct. 29. My wife ordered the French Onion Soup, that she has had many times, and it always was very good, but this time it was not up to Standards. The soup was very watery, and did not taste like it usually does( this could be caused by an inexperienced cook) I ordered the soup of the day ( Mushroom Leek ). The flavour was very good, but it was served no better than Luke warm - should have returned it, but I didn't. I'm sure this was a a one time only instance ( Hope So ). We will definifly go back to the Diner and try again, because we like the Diner and the Staff is very good.

Atmosphere was mixed/disrepair. Some new tales, many very worn and gouged. Some chairs were refurbished ,the rest were well worn or cracked. The washroom was very dimly lit. Yam fries were good, but the gravy was bland. The small ceramic of Onion Soup was just warmed, but the bowl was hot. Not too good for onions or croutons. I had one piece of onion that was unchewable....probably an outer undiscarded piece. Service was good. Staff was friendly. Prices were high.

The server has no hospitality skills whatsoever. My wife has Celiac disease. They offer gluten free options. We ordered and the waitress says the kitchen can’t cook her eggs in a frying pan because they were too busy earlier that morning. Only 3 other guests were in the restaurant at this time. I told her if they can’t make it gluten free then we will leave. She shrugged her shoulders. We left and will never return. They used to be very good but they have horrible staff there now.

Absolutely the worst! This place use to be such an amazing place to go and great food but it’s no longer this way! My husband and I went there today for lunch and what a disaster. From the moment we walked in we where treated with hostility and attitude from the server and I counted at least 9 dirty tables and not a lot of people in the there. There were 2 girls working and neither of them bothered to attempt to clean any tables. She brought our drinks and then walked away didn’t even ask to take our order about 10 mins later we finally ask to place our order only to receive even more attitude from the server. I was ready to leave at this point but we decided to wait for our food and give them a chance. When our order came it was wrong and I asked her to fix it please and she grabbed my plate and started yelling at us and saying we didn’t need to be rude when all I asked was to have my order fixed and then she proceed to go into the back and say that she can’t deal with that table anymore. We walked out after that comment. I’ve never been so disrespected and treated so terribly for just wanting to have a nice Sunday lunch with my husband. We will never go back and wouldn’t recommend this place to my dog!

We stopped here for breakfast. I ordered pancakes and my wife ordered poached eggs. Food arrived fairly quickly but, was just barely warm. When presenting the food, the server (not the person who seated us) referred to my pancakes, as a 'small stack': which it was, just 2 fairly small pancakes. My wife's eggs arrived 'over easy' rather than poached with one yolk broken along with cold, over cooked hash browns . No offer of jam for wife's toast or coffee refill. The restaurant was not very busy. $30 for a horrible breakfast.

This is a family diner with old style decor. But it has nice staff and quite good food. We’ve had Benny’s black stone a couple of times recently and they are very good. Extra crispy bacon come just as ordered. It’s a popular place but the hours have diminished due to staff shortage that is happening everywhere these days so check to see if it’s open first.

Friends selected the York Street Diner for our Sunday brunch and we were not disappointed. The place was full, with many, many happy diners. The staff very pleasantly told us that the wait would not be long, and reassured us a short time later. In no time at all we were seated at a clean table in the warm sunshine, given menus and icy water. We had coffee soon after. We all chose Eggs Benedict..with variations between classic and seafood. We did not have to wait long. Meals were hot a delicious. The staff continued to cater to our every need without being over the top Even though the restaurant was full, the noise level was fine. when the sun was getting warm, the lass opened the door, but made sure if we were too cool to let her know. we were very happy with everything about our brunch and will return again for sure.

Our table was reserved and ready for us and on time. Waitress was polite and helpful. I tried one special, ribs with potato skins, salad and garlic toast. Salad and toast were good. Ribs were not cooked with a sauce, but seemed spiced and baked. Potato skins were over done. Wife had a club sandwich on multigrain. Toast was burnt, sent back. Next attempt was even burnt. Waitress had some story why it burns, they tried 3 times. On the bill, they gave 50% off wifes meal. We wont be back!

Have driven past this place on our way up island forever. Finally stopped for dinner tonight. Food was delicious. We ordered the pork schnitzel and beef dip meals. Large portions, quality meats and tasty vegetables. Fast, friendly service made this a very nice stop.

Covid has changed so many things, but didn’t expect the food at York St to get this mediocre. Burgers used to be fresh, juicy and delicious. Worst burger I have had in a very long time! Tough and dry, too much of some kind of seasoning, perhaps to disguise the meat, or boot heel. New cook/owners, do t know, but I do know we won’t be back again. The wait staff however, were great as usual😊

I will likely NEVER go back, I've never been treated so badly by staff in my entire life (used to be my favourite place in town). Tried to phone to order food on the weekend, was asked to hold then listened to the employee "Sheena" cuss/swear her head off for 10 mins while on "hold" (could still hear). Called back, happened again!! Over 15 "F" bombs on the phone in 20 minutes on "hold". NO ONE CAME BACK TO TAKE MY ORDER, EITHER TIME I CALLED. At this point I drive down to York St, I walk in, it is fairly busy. I ask a lady up front if the owner is in, or a manager. She says she’s the manager. Perfect. I ask if we can speak somewhere privately, she says no. So I lean in and whisper that I just spent 25 minutes trying to order food, listening to the staff swearing and cussing. She goes over immediately to the other lady working (who I assume is Sheena that answered the phone), and the girl starts laughing and looking at us. I ask if we can speak again in private and I’m once again told no, so I tell the manager that I am looking to place my order and honestly I am hoping it is going to be complimentary after the experience I have just had (plus half my order was supposed to be free from their last screw up). I get told angrily that this will not be happening, and she tells me to come back later if I want to discuss it. I tell her I drove all the way down here, I’m looking to order food, can we please resolve this. She offers to get the owner (GREAT! I asked to speak to the owner when I first came in). She returns less than 15 seconds later “I spoke to him, he says there’s nothing he can do”. I said there is no way you relayed my entire story to him in that time. At this point the other person working pipes up “You’re in here every day, you know we’re good servers!” I looked at her and said calmly “I think I heard enough out of you on the telephone, I’ll thank you not to interrupt”. TO WHICH SHE REPLIES “I haven’t even answered the phone today”. BLATANTLY lying and accusing me of making the entire scenario up, I said to her “Then how do I know your name is Sheena and you just told the cook 3 times it’s “****ing bananas in here, **** my life” 15 minutes ago?” To which Sheena just starts laughing out loud in my face. The manager then looks at me and says “bye, have a good day” and waves me out of the restaurant. As I'm leaving I hear 2 people standing by the door whisper "oh my God...should we leave too?" I am someone who they said is “here every day” and they treated me worse than I have ever experienced from any restaurant in my life. No matter how much I enjoy their food, whatever has happened to the staffing there is horrendous and how they treat customer is absolutely unfathomable. I don’t know what it would take for me to go back there again, but it would have to either include personal apologies from those staff members or one from the owner himself for hiring them and have him tell me they no longer work there. I can safely say Brunch On 3rd would never treat anyone like this, and that’s where I’ll be recommending to people from now on.
