This was a birthday dinner for me and there was a total of six of us. Let me just say this. Everyone of our dishes - be it the first course, the main course or the dessert was super. There wasn’t one negative in any...of them. The only reason I gave for stars rather than five is the length of time it took to receive said courses. Even the check took 20 minutes to come after asking. Unfortunately they are closing for good next month so we only gave a few weeks to dine there again. And I do plan on returning at least once if not twice before then.More

This restaurant is superb in every way; from delicious food to superb ambience on a quiet street in Duncan. Great drinks menu and good service. I have been to restaurants all over BC including many high end Vancouver spots and would rank this one in...the top 5 in the Provence.More

We tried the 5 course tasting menu and it was absolutely fabulous. We would go back and have it again tomorrow.

Romantic, and elegant ... a hidden gem Just off the main road lies a beautiful home that has been transformed into a restaurant. The service and menu is one of the best on the island. I can’t wait to go back. I would compare it...to The Deep Cove Chalet. Fantastic!!!!More

Went here for a casual business lunch with a colleague during a conference visit to Victoria. The restaurant is about one hour from Victoria and it is definitely worth the trip. The lunch was fabulous, both the charcuterie board as a starter with excellent homemade...sausages and local cheese, as well as the main course which was gnocchi with a beef sauce, rocket salad and parmesan. One of the best gnocchi I have ever had. In summary: Hudson's on First is an excellent small, cozy, local restaurant which you should not miss it you are in the neighborhood......or even a few hours away.More

This building is a treat for your eyes if you are at all keen on Heritage properties. Built in 1906, it is amazing in its condition and appointment. A friend had told me this was an elegantly romantic restaurant and in that respect, they were...certainly correct. We arrived just after 1pm to have lunch and there did not seem to be very many guests but we were greeted with "I hope you are not in a hurry, it is very busy in the kitchen so you will wait and that was also VERY true. We were presented with a dish of marinated olives while we waited but it was almost 70 minutes till we saw our food. It was beautifully presented and exquisitely prepared. Some of the dishes we saw being set down in front of other guests were equally attractive, but had our hostess said it would be over an hour before we would eat, my husband would have most certainly have suggested we go someplace else.More

We arrived early and enjoyed cocktails in the lounge. We chose classic drinks which were excellent-well presented and perfectly balanced. Our dinners were delicious; my duck confit one of the best I've eaten, and I've had this dish many times, including in France. It was...delicious, tender and hot, something I find rarely occurs when eating out. My husband's meal (Cache Creek beef) was also very good; well balanced with the veggies and very tender. The decaf coffee (Drumroaster,, Cobble Hill), was amazing too. Our server was perfectly attentive and friendly yet professional, she is obviously experienced to support fine dining. We also appreciated the use of local farmers, wineries and artists. Our wine was perfectly matched to our meals, and I especially loved seeing the beautiful pottery vessels of our local potter, Mary Fox, another local treasure. This was a very enjoyable dining experience, we are so happy to support this local business and will definitely be back soon.More

We looked forward to going to this restaurant for the first time. The restaurant was beautiful. It was decorated with beautiful art deco lights. We were greeted by a very charming waitress right away. She gave us a choice of tables. That was the end...of the good news. It was all downhill from here. We ordered spaghetti, brussels sprouts and a brioche off the brunch menu. Despite the restaurant being relatively empty we waited forty five minutes for our meal. The waitress felt sorry for us and brought a snack and kept us plied with coffee which was very good. The meals were overpriced. Twenty four dollars for ordinary spaghetti. My wife could not even eat her brioche and she returned it. The only thing that was good was the brussel sprouts. It was a very disappointing experience. The manager said they would try harder next time.More

My wife and I stopped in for lunch. The restaurant was half full. After ordering we waited close to an hour for the first course to arrive. The seafood chowder while tasty and nicely presented was lukewarm and small. The wild mushrooms on toast were...under seasoned and also lukewarm. By the time our mussels and frites arrived the wine we had been sipping was gone. Maybe they think slow service increases wine sales. The order came half size rather than the full size ordered. The frites were house cut but the potatoes had been poorly trimmed and contained black rotten sections. Also at least half the fries by volume were under an inch in length. They presented like a grotty tiny bowl of potato crumbs. Management needs to pay attention. Food at this price needs to be of consistently high quality.More

Our go-to restaurant for fine dining. Over many visits, our meals have always been excellent. Food is expertly prepared and beautifully presented. Service is professional, and the setting is a beautiful heritage house. Good value for food and service quality.
