We love coming here. Great food. Love the decor. Feels like I’m in Germany. Downside bit pricey. The server was overwhelmed, rushy, not helpfully, we wanted to go for a relaxing romantic meal server made it feel like I was at an airport Burger King. The music selection needs to improve. German music good idea but they play german trance / techno music. Something a bit slower would be preferred.

Black Forest Restaurant
Most delicious schnitzel ever, and huge piece for each meal. Tried 3 different schnitzel options (ate here 4 times: 3 dinners and 1 late lunch during my vacation in Harrison … Aug 31 – Sept 4).
Also, yummy spaetzle. Found out my 2nd meal there, that one can swap the potatoes in the meal for $1 with Spaetzle instead.
I didn’t venture to try other items on the menu as the schnitzel was such a delight, and reminded me of meals my mom or grandma used to make.
Nice variety of dessert options, and most meals I took a dessert to go for later.
Service good, but not great. Only checked on once after order placed and food arrived.
Tables spaced apart, including the tables people are seated at indoors.
Only negative … one dinner I was seated at the table across from the bathroom, and as people lined up for their turn they were quite close to where I was seated. Made me slightly uncomfortable as people were not wearing masks as in the middle of meals, but waiting directly behind my chair to use the washroom (I could have reached out and touched the people). I would recommend not seating customers at that table during COVID.

The Black Forest restaurant has been highly recommended to me multiple times by friends as I am German. We ordered the Schnitzel Champignon and Pork Hock for lunch. Both were overcooked and not up to par for any price, but certainly not for the $20 for each that we paid. The Sauerkraut was very good, but only a little was put on the plate. Also, a side of German mustard should have come with the Pork Hock. What made this worse was that I was looking forward to having German cuisine...and was disappointed. If the owners or chef are indeed German, you should be ashamed of yourselves for portraying German culture so poorly. Perhaps you’ve been here a while and have become bored, but you need to either step it up by improving the quality or stop representing German cuisine. I am not trying to be mean here, but for the prices you are charging, one expects the fare to be at least somewhat worthy. The service, on the other hand was excellent. The servers were clearly very busy at the full restaurant, but were very attentive and efficient. The portions were generous, though I left half my plate for reasons other than being full.

We’re not restaurant snobs, not all will be 5 star, but this left us so, so disappointed. I ordered the Snitzchel Hawaiian. It was overly dry and came with a small ring of pineapple from a can plopped on top of a small sliver of ham and a dollop of cheese melted on top. I hardly believe this was made fresh in the kitchen, and for $28 certainly poor value. The waiter was very hurried and we felt very rushed even though it was not busy. Won’t be back

You may need a reservation.
We did not know about the reservations, but they seated us in under 20 min on a very crowded evening.
Our server was fantastic, explaining all the options and her favorites.
I have recently traveled to Hamburg Germany and have a German friend (who can be snobby), The food was comparable to the restaurants I went to in Hamburg.
The apple strudel is to die for.

We chose the Black Forest Steak & Schnitzel resturant as we had a great meal there a few years back. And chose it for our 41st Anniversary. The meal we chose I have to say was a very sad . We both ordered the New York Steak Oscar which turned out to be inedible due to the fat and grizzle. This was no way a New York steak as it was a 1/2 inch thick steak and at best maybe a fast fry sirloin. My wife returned hers for another as the waitress viewed that my wife was unable to cut through her steak. The second steak wasn't much better. Mine was equivalent of my wife's second steak. My wife took her dinner home as by the time she recieved her second meal mine was cold. The pro was the crab and shrimp spetzzula dripping in cheese. The other disappointment was that the manager didn't even come to speak with us about the meal and left it up to the waitress to deal with. NOT COOL!!!!!! We were given a $26.00 discount for the poor steak dinner on a $212.00 bill. We thought better could of been done.

The food was very good here. What ruined the experience is the amount of nickle and diming that takes place. I don't mind paying for extras but there are no refills on your drinks, no bread refills and a minimum per person charge to eat here. Our waitress disclosed nothing, at times we weren't sure she could even hear us and then to top it off they would not convert US dollars to Canadian. They do a 1 to 1 which would have cost us way more than the bill. Great food but if you don't like to be nickle and dimed don't eat here.

Visited Harrison the other day just to get out of the house during the pandemic. After strolling around, passing by various restaurants, decided to try the Black Forest for lunch.
Social distancing very much in effect but not in a negative fashion. On entering you are asked for your contact information. Seating is spaced well apart and the servers are masked.
While primarily a schnitzel restaurant the menu was quite extensive. Ordered the Schnitzel Oskar which turned out to be a great choice. Big, crispy, well cooked schnitzel with lots of crab and béarnaise sauce, fried potatoes and red cabbage. Delicious. Just thinking about it makes me hungry again.
Service was friendly, attentive and efficient. Happy to recommend this restaurant to anyone visiting the area.

My neptune schnitzel was just covered in salad shrimps and the bernaise sauce tasted like it had too much cornstarch in it. My schnitzel breading also had a hint of cinnamon to it. There is a lot of hype about this restaurant at Harrison. The food was not as good as I expected.

Very overpriced place, clearly because is a hot spot for tourists. Having tasted the real German gastronomy we were looking to enjoy a nice dinner. The pizza of the kids was very small and tasted like frozen pizza; the fish and chips of the kid was quite average and my cordon bleu that was $32 was like a meal you find in cheap chain restaurants…the veggies were uncooked and uneatable, and the sauce bernaise was tasting super strong to lemon when it’s supposed to be vinegar.
It was a disappointment :(

I dined here 3 times during my four days in Harrison Hot Springs, and each time ordered the Vienna schnitzel, substituted potatoes for spaetzle, Schnitzel and spaetzle were absolutely delicious, thus my reason for returning several times.
Second time, also ordered the chocolate mousse for dessert, it’s good, it’s rich, but very firm. Perhaps it should’ve been taken out of the fridge or freezer prior to meal service so could become a more mousse type consistency.
First time, late lunch, good service.
Second time, later lunch, exceptional service.
Third time, early dinner around 5:30pm, less desirable service. Felt forgotten about when server only had 1 other table upon my arrival.

We were seated quickly at 6:30 pm on a Saturday without a reservation to a packed place. Tables are cozy but not uncomfortable. Service was quick and food arrived much sooner than expected given the full house. Chose the traditional Vienna Schnitzel ($25) from the extensive menu and was not disappointed. HUGE portions filled the plate: pork schnitzel nicely fried and tender came with fried potatoes, red cabbage sauerkraut (just enough zingy-ness), and sauteed veggies - all very good. Have the apple strudel a la mode to share (or not). Would definitely go again. Kudos to the hard-working staff who worked the busy dining room effortlessly.

My friends have come here for years — and they’re not “old people”! They’re middle age hipsters! I always thought schnitzel was for old people! My bad! We haven’t eaten out much since Covid so we’re leery as to how the distancing would be, etc. The tables were far apart and they seat groups of up to 6. Staff were wearing masks and service was great! I had the combination plate do I could try a few different things- schnitzel, touladen, sausage, spaetzel, steamed veg and red cabbage. YUMMMM!! And piping hot! It’s a pet peeve of mine to go and pay for a nice meal out and it isn’t HOT! (I’ve become my mother and send it back but I’m nice about it, not embarrassing!)
If you’re planning on going to this restaurant in combination with staying at Harrison Resort and Spa, I’d definitely read the reviews on the “Resort” before booking there! Good place to get Covid IMO. This restaurant was the best part of our night away in Harrison!

We went there for lunch on our first day and had the meatloaf, sauerkraut and bratwurst and a few beers. The service was great (shout out to Trevor!) and the food was good. Overall it was pricey for the portion sizes.
The next day we we back for drinks only, and we told the waiter (not Trevor) this before he sat us. It seemed that this was an offence as our second server was rude, hasty and when we tried to order some snack we were told no. We actually had to ask someone else for some fries. Then once we finished our fries the waiter brought out our bill we hadn't asked for the bill and we hadn't finished our first drinks but there was the bill so we paid up and left. So top tip, try and sit in Trevor's section when you go, and try the bratwurst it was pretty good.

The kitchen is very far from the authentic German foods. Only the decoration mirrors some German feeling. The codfish was raw, the fries were overcooked, the Belgian chocolate mousse has been made from a regular Dr Oetker pudding with a shop cream on the top. They don’t serve any coffee or cappuccino only a light brown coloured hot water. Absolutely not recommended, sorry.
