About
Warm and elegant ambiance. Bringing clean, honest, local ingredients to life since 2004. Located in the heart of downtown Kamloops, our vision was to create that little corner, neighbourhood place where the food is always amazing, the service is genuinely warm and inviting, locals and travellers alike are welcomed back time and again and the guest - always - is the centre of attention. Small is good!

Brownstones is consistently one of the best places to have dinner in Kamloops. The location is convenient, the building is historic and well-maintained, and the service is friendly and attentive. The menu changes with the seasons, and the food is well-presented. It is expensive, however it is well worth supporting a local restaurant which adds to the local community.

The first thing you notice is the beautiful brick building with classy decor and very well kept exterior with petunias, seating, wrought iron fencing, gas fire . The interior is cozy, with wooden tables, beautiful art, an old fashioned bar and relaxing background music . In the evening, they light candles and someone is constantly going around ensuring you have water. You will never wait for anything. Our server was a lovely, personable lady and she ensured we were happy throughout the experience. And it really is an experience there. We started with Sangria with fresh orange and decorated with orange petals. Everything is served with thought and flavour. We started with beet carppaccio which I highly recommend. Layered thinly sliced smoke beets with seeds and goat cheese that has exceptional flavour. We also had baked brie that melted in your mouth with rich buttery flavour. For main, we had salmon and lamb. Both cooked perfectly. The salmon glistened and the portion generous. My lamb was fall off the bone tender in horseradish whipped potatoes with red wine jus. It was delicious. We finished with chocolate hazelnut ganache type dessert; easily shared by two. Rich, decadent and a very pure cocoa taste. Whether it is for a special occasion or if you simply seeking a dinner that is head and shoulders above any restaurant in the city, this is the place to go.

We wanted a place that would not disappoint so we chose our favourite restaurant. Under Covid rules the setup and service was different but we were very happy to be inside and get a great meal. My wife ordered the duck which she had previously and found it delicious while i had the lamb shank. This slow cooked piece of heaven was to die for. We had intended to get desert but neither of us had the room for anything else. What a wonderful night at our favourite place. Thanks you to Brownstone and our lovely server.

I was disapointed . The atmosphere was loud, mainly due to a loud waiter near by. For starters I ordered a crab cake, and my wife had the mushroom soup. The soup was well made and tasty, the crab cake not so much. My wife ordered a lamb shank, I ordered the NY strip. The lamb was tender and overall done well with a mild sauce served over whipped potatoes. The steak however was tough and gristly. It was served with an augratin potato dish with a mild bluecheese. It was just so-so. The desert was a crumble that was milld and a custard blend with sprinkled oats and two dried apple slices. The total bill was just over 170.00 and unfortunately, the food was not up to the price paid.

We went after reading in the Rocky Mountaineer guide book that it was in an old building. I love old buildings and their lovely interiors. Their own review called it warm. I bet to differ. I have never eaten in an uglier dining room, dark, blah and cold. It took 35 minutes to bring a steak tartare and a seafood soup. The tartare was served in a bowl which left no room to set it down between bites. The Brazilian seafood soup was good but the ambiance would prevent us from returning.

The menu has become way too far fetched for the local palate. I applaud the effort, but most of the items on the menu are not what people want. If this menu was in Banff where Game is avante garde maybe but not here. I went there and was surrounded by people ordering chicken. The atmosphere, decor and service are excellent. But the menu - like Rabbit spanakopita is not appetizing. And Spanakopita is an amazing stand alone dish, incredible in and of itself. Simple, yet delicious. People do not go out to order what they can have at home in order avoid menu items they do not want. Also, we ordered an expensive cheese plate with fruit and nuts. There was a cherry tomato cut in half and a raspberry. That was it!! The spoonful of nuts were ground and could not be picked up. There were 3 slivers of cheese. I get that restaurants are compensating for rising costs, but this is the high end restaurant in Kamloops. The actual quality of food is there, but there is definitely a noticeable change. The quality is awesome. The service great. The menu definitely does not gear toward the local palate. The quantity definitely changed.

The fine meals (crab cakes, cod cheeks, seafood stew) served by the delightful Sarah were disrupted by the arrival of trains heading west with grains and east with fuels. The din of iron on iron every ten minutes or so marred what would have been a wonderful meal on the shaded patio. The only solution on an early summer's evening: eat inside.

As always, this restaurant did not disappoint and Sarah, my server, ensured that I left with a wish to return there when I next visit Kamloops. A good selection of menu items, many locally sourced and a variety of drinks are on offer. This is a higher-end restaurant with accompanying prices but definitely worth every dollar, no question. Thanks Connie for maintaining such high standards and hiring staff that complement your restaurant so well :) Bernd Williams Lake, BC

We were excited to go to the best fine dining in Kamloops. We were given a lovely table on the patio and our drink orders were taken right away. Thirty minutes later our drinks sill had not arrived. We reminded the staff that our drinks had not arrived and we had to remind them of our order. When they came the drinks were excellent. We ordered a rare striploin steak and the elk meatloaf. The elk meatloaf was very good. The gravy and the vegetables and potatoes were excellent. The striploin steak was medium. Not rare or medium rare but medium. A picture is attached. The steak was very well seasoned and aged but terribly cooked. We were too hungry to wait for another steak. The beats and green beans and squash were excellent. To be fair the staff realized the steak was badly cooked and the striploin steak was comped All in all an average experience at a restaurant for which we had high hopes.

Brownstone is a gem in Kamloops! The service, quality, and food taste is fabulous. The fresh homemade French bread was worth the visit. The taste of fresh butter in the dough was addictive. The strip steak was prepared to a perfect medium rare. One if the best steaks I gave ever had. My wife had the pork tenderloin special, nicely prepared and very tender. We finished our meal with the okanogan peach cobbler. If you ever pass through Kamloops you gave to have dinner at brownstone’s. reservations are necessary.

A lovely restuarant in a heritage building in downtown Kamloops. Posh (for Kamloops), yet highly acccesible for all. The food is excellent quality and well presented, and innovative- Bacon wrapped elk meatloaf, Gnocchi poutine, Seafood linguine, Seared ahi tuna with black bean udon, Sirloin steak with potato gratin, shallots & beetroot, Delicious sourdough bread and whipped butter. We tried the indigenous wine.. actually quite good. Great service from the 2 waitresses and the barman, and warm atmosphere. We would definitely recommend Brownstone.

took my friend for a thank you dinner after a mini-golf vacation. apparently there wasn't a single item on the menu that appealed to him. no burger or steaks so he ordered a beer and sulkily texted on his phone. I offered to go somewhere else but was rebuffed. So I ordered the red-braised beef shank with grilled vegetables and it was excellent. The service was good and the outdoor dining space was charming. I found the menu diverse with many mouthwatering options. I'd recommend

The restaurant is beautiful, located in a n updated heritage building in the heart of downtown Kamloops. The service was absolutely wonderful, and the food was to die. I have a dairy allergy and they were very accommodating, the chef altered a dish for me. The wine selection is not extensive but they do offer some nice local wines, as well as local craft beer. One of the very best dining experiences I’ve had!

Had dinner there a few nights ago, arguably one of the best restaurants in Kamloops. I had the Elk meatloaf and my wife had the lamb shank. Both were very good. They have a very interesting and varied menu. Great atmosphere and quiet background music. Service was excellent. Connie ( the owner) works the floor to insure all is good. Reasonably priced in my mind. Make reservations as it's a fairly small venue. The wine list is all BC wines but they offer corkage for $25.00 if you prefer. Would definitely recommend the restaurant.

I have travelled some, I have worked in the industry. I know how hard it is to be consistent. The Brownstone is the best restaurant I have ever eaten at. Over many visits. I look forward to the veggies served with the main, they are a key part of the art of the plate. The servers are interested and informed and complete a great experience. When we got to be there, hopefully soon again. The menu is locally sourced when possible and varies, and is creative while being appropriate for a smaller city. I think it’s genius.
