Less than stellar service

This was about the fifth time I've been to Hoang Gia in Kelowna. I have really enjoyed the food I've had here and so have my guests. Today was a very different experience. I was with two companions, one who really enjoys Vietnamese food and one who is on the fence. I ordered a noodle bowl. I was offered the option of one spring roll and two skewers or two spring rolls and one skewer, I ordered the two spring rolls and one skewer. My companion who enjoys Vietnamese food wanted a noodle bowl but with tofu instead of meat. This caused a large problem. Our server said that could not be done at all and recommended the vegetarian stir fry. My companion did not want a stir fry and insisted on a noodle bowl with tofu. Our server went to ask the kitchen and came back to say okay, we'll do it but only for you and only this once. Weird! My other companion ordered a chicken stir fry. Before the meals were delivered, a plate with two spring rolls on it appeared. When I queried that explaining that I had thought I'd get a noodle bowl with two spring rolls in it, our server replied that she thought I would want to share them with my companions. When the food came it tasted good but the chicken stir fry was made with beef and my noodle bowl was very spicy. Too spicy. I've been eating Vietnamese food for about 20 years and except for a little chili in the fish sauce, I've never had such a spicy one. The food was brought to our table by a person I think was the cook. She came to say that in future they would not prepare the noodle bowl with tofu - that she had done it specially but would not do it again. She then stated that the vegetarian stir fry was exactly the same as the noodle bowl except for the way it was served. We did not believe her! Sadly, I will have to find a different option for Vietnamese food in Kelowna. Too bad

Good food, will return.

This is a great spot for a casual dinner . We were sat in a booth and the waitress had already placed menus at the table before we sat down. She brought iced water first then asked if we would like a beverage. We ordered the beverage and it was brought right away. I chose # 39 and my hubby chose #37. Both were good but my hubby had expected it to be a little spicier. It was reasonably priced. Will go again.

We had decent pho here. The staff were friendly and the service was fast. The pho special was a nice big portion. Definitely would recommend this spot if you're craving pho.

Best spring rolls in town and Vermicelli chicken. I visit every time I am in Kelowna for lunch. The spring rolls are crunchy & flavourful. I prefer my vermicelli chicken to be a thigh which is what they serve rather than breast meat. The service is fast and food consistently good. Don’t let the mini mall location fool you. Worth the visit.

Pho used to fantastic and a good price - sadly not anymore !

This used to be our go to / frequent restaurant for pho soup - it used to be fantastic, best in town. Recently the price has been significantly increased, the amount of rare beef has decreased and the quality of the beef has gone down - very fatty. So, sadly we will be going elsewhere for dining out.

Wor Wonton Soup

Stopped in at our favorite Vietnamese Restaurant. We both had the Wor Wonton soup. Large bowl came fairly quickly after ordering. Came with 2 medium shrimp, 2 pieces of sliced pork, lots of different veggies and of course lots of loaded wonton. Was definitely full after finishing the whole bowl. Came to $36.80 for 2 people all in. Reasonable price for what you get. All covid protocol was in place. Cheers Greg

I decided to write this after a rather disappointing Valentine's Day meal at another Kelowna restaurant. My wife and I went to a downtown restaurant - great views of the lake, good service but really mediocre food. On the way home, we were talking of our last meal at Hoang Gai the week before. We realized our meal there was twice as enjoyable, twice the flavour and quality but yet half the price. Unbeatable pho!

OMG! This Vietnamese food lover has had her tastebuds overwhelmed with joy!

Every city I travel to, I search out the Vietnamese restaurants. Most places have the wrong noodle proportions, lack of herbs, or the wrong seasoned dressings. Not this Hoang Gia! Every single mouthful was perfect! Each course accompanied by the right dressing and some perfectly fresh greens. All in not only generous proportions, but with ingredients in perfect balance. Pork Gyosa: 10/10 Tuna Tataki: 10/10 Edamame: 10/10 House Special Pho: 10/10 Hoang Gia rates among my top three favourite Vietnamese restaurants in North America (along with the defunct Merveilles du Vietnam in Montreal, and the one in West Palm Beach who's name I've forgotten). I can say nothing about the dining room, as this was take-out. But my appreciation of the food and amazing flavours (to this cilantro lover) was unparalleled,. Thank you Hoang Gia, you made my evening!

Greedy pricing

My wife and I were appalled at the predatory pricing here. It came to about $50 for 2 soups and teas. It was $6 for a tea bag in a pot for us ( many Asian places do not even charge for tea). The price for a small soup was just about the same as for a large - and there was not a single veggie in my rare beef soup. The music was screechy and the decor was cheap looking and the lights were bright. Oh, and an added bonus; someone was shooting-up drugs near the front door. We now measure prices for other things we buy, like clothes, in how many soups it would cost.

Deep smokey, herbally Pho broth, good meat quality, good stirfry dishes and surprisingly sushi wasn't half bad. Much better than other Vietnamese offerings in Kelowna.

Ordered Chicken Pad Thai for take out. So disappointed it was mostly noodles , a couple of vegetables and there was pieces of chicken skin. Never ever go there again.
