Not what we expected Food just ok Service a little arrogant I’m pretty easy to please and I don’t mind paying for good food But personally after two tries we were not impressed Old salad and burnt pizza good flavours though but not stellar

This restaurant is on a hill and has a nice lower section that has an elevated view over some trees. I ordered the Flat Iron Steak With Scalloped Potatoes And Roasted Vegetables. The Steak looked a bit grey, but it was cooked “medium”, exactly as...ordered. While it was tender, the Steak completely lacked any flavour whatsoever. There was absolutely no seasoning, so the taste was very bland. The Demi glaze that accompanied it was also almost completely flavourless, so it didn’t do anything to enhance the flavour of the Steak. I have had just as tasteless Steaks in average diners, for 1/2 the price. The Scalloped Potatoes were quite good. I enjoyed them. The Vegetables were slightly over cooked and not as firm as I like. The service was excellent, as the server was very friendly, accommodating, attentive, efficient and sincere.More

Covid challenges the Traveller in many ways and finding a good restaurant with an available table is tough. I had called ahead weeks ahead to be sure of dinner that night. The hotel restaurant was closed so I knew it might be tough getting dinner...if I left it to chance. The Nest is well reviewed here on TA and looked near enough to stroll to once we’d checked in. It isn’t exactly on the main road and we passed a few other eateries that had been recommended. They looked busy and some had lines waiting along the street as people were socially distanced. The Nest was at the top of a rise and set back off the road, not somewhere you’d notice right away. I am so glad we had booked. It is lovely inside. There is a covered terrace/patio out back with a beautiful outlook for sunset. The small dining room had very few tables set up and spaced well apart. Everything about service had been thought through and we felt very well looked after and safe. Danielle, we could see was full of smiles wearing her well designed face shield, and was a cheerful and attentive server. She helped us choose from the very reduced, but carefully selected menu, a delicious locally sourced and house cooked meal. The mushroom risotto was in a white truffle sauce and came with a side of roasted vegetables, delightfully paired with a La Cremant Bourgogne, and finished off with a chocolate volcano and home made ice cream. Mmm Mmm good.More

Another great meal at The Nest Bistro. Seems I make this place a must on my trips to Nanaimo. Due to COVID, limited cocktail menu but the margaritas they did have were good. They don't disappoint when it comes to cocktails. Food is always great...and creative. Suggest sitting on the deck if you can. Always great service even when the power went out we felt well taken care of and not rushed.More

After discovering that Bistro 694 in Qualicum has shut down (temporarily) again, we were scrambling for a replacement reservation for a bday dinner. Discovered Nest and we enjoyed our visit. Waitress was excellent, very attentive and genuine - really liked her. Food could have been...better (salmon was dry/overcooked), but in general pretty good. Atmosphere was nice as well. We'd likely return, if in Nanaimo again for dinnerMore

We have lived in big cities & travelled the world, we are grateful to have a restaurant like The Nest in Nanaimo. There are not a lot of independent eateries that have lovely wines by the glass, cocktails, upscale/tasty food prepared & served with love...& a smile. There were 4 of us, mid June.. as things just opening amid covid restrictions. They are doing a fabulous job of physically distancing & we were totally comfortable. We each had a cocktail 1st, then on to mains.. 2 of us had the Potato crusted Salmon & fresh in season veg.. salmon was perfect done to our liking (moist, not flaky), another had the gnocci. We also started with sharing 2 orders of crab cakes - always have them when we are here ! delicious. We shared a lovely bottle of wine & ended with Crazy, delicious house-made desserts. we shared the daily homemade cookies & ice cream - flavours change but they're always amazing. Also had an apple pie ordered which was delicious too .. Check out their website to see the full menu but also the top-notch physical distancing/disinfecting measures they ar takingMore

So my wife and I decided we needed to get out for our wedding anniversary, now that restrictions are starting to ease. We chose The Nest because of its ratings, and we were not disappointed. Friendly staff greeted us and explained the process they follow...to protect us and them. Nothing onerous or unexpected, but certainly adequate. Our table gave us a nice view, with seagulls soaring about and a bit of a panorama of downtown Nanaimo, looking eastward. We had local beer and cider along with house made polenta fries for a starter. I have to say they are absolutely delicious! They come with 3 dipping sauces that nicely complement the fries. For mains, my wife took the mushroom risotto and an organic greens salad. I had the "seafood duo", which consists of a nice, thick crab cake, garlic prawns, with a choice of two sides. I went for mixed vegetables and Kennebec fries with a truffle mayo (because a man can never have enough fries!). Everything was prepared perfectly and tasted fantastic. We each had another beer and cider with the meals, and finished with freshly brewed decaf coffee (also locally roasted). So, all in, it came to $97 before taxes (minimal) and tip. Well worth the money!!!!More
