We went for buffet on a Saturday night and left wishing their food was as good as their service. Wonton soup was like dough balls and frankly we had better food from a grocery store.

While I liked this restaurant my wife did not. She thought the food was not a good as other Chinese restaurants she had been in. I on the other hand did like the food - there is hardly any food I do not like. I suspect we will not go there again but then she may agree to give it... More

First time. We ordered take out to our motel. The food was VERY VERY GOOD. We were staying in a motel but when we opened the bags - no cutlery! a quick call and they delivered chopsticks for me, knife and fork for my husband, and plates. Minimum $35 order. But the food was very good, decent leftovers for tomorrow,... More

Wanted to have Chinese Buffett dinner so after researching few restaurants in Nanaimo, chose to go to Shanghai City for dinner and I am glad as it was an excellent choice. Good idea to be there early as food is fresh, large variety of very tasty soups and appetizers-chicken, dumplings, spring rolls, shrimp etc. Main meals were ok but not... More

We have eaten at various Chinese restaurants and this was very disappointing. The ginger beef was expensive for the small bowl we received. It was drowning in sauce and so chewy we could hardly eat it. The chop suey was oriental noodles from superstore with a bit of meat sliced and placed on top! That's it! no sauce, nothing! Lol... I went in yesterday for their buffet but I was coming in about a half hour before it was over. The owner offered to make me whatever I wanted and made sure that I had plenty to eat and that everything was fresh. The food was great and the server was attentive and very kind.

Yesterday, my husband and I went to the Shanghai City restaurant to celebrate my birthday. I love their buffet. Their sesame balls are to die for and yesterday, the maple ice cream was so creamy that it was melting in my mouth. It's one of my favourite restaurants in town. I always feel at home there. We have a favourite... More

I don't even know where to start. We ordered several dishes. S&S chicken balls were just big lumps of soggy dough with a small piece of chicken. Egg rolls soggy and tasted like fish. Both the chicken and egg rolls went in the garbage they were that bad. Wonton soup below average for flavour. Honey garlic pork was half fat.... More

We visited for mid day lunch. Ordered off menu not sure what we would get in terms of food quality or style given the mixed reviews on this site. We were extremely pleased with the quality and quantity. Additionally the staff genuinely friendly. We will return
