My wife and I frequently visit Carlos O’Briens in Nanaimo for lunch, happy hours and dinners. It’s a great location with friendly staff and normally good food. We had friends over from Vancouver and of course we took them to Carlos’ for lunch. Our server...Jade was fantastic, friendly, accommodating and set the tone for a lovely lunch. Unfortunately the food was terrible. A very small piece of unidentified whitefish covered with a heavy crust of petrified batter. My fries were stone cold and my wife’s salad had yellowed greens and wilted brown lettuce . We love eating here and hope the food improves before our next visit.More

My husband and I go here once in awhile and always leave saying, not going there again. You have to 'wait' at the door for a hostage to seat you, then you 'wait' again for a server. The last time we went, this took 20...minutes, why? There's reservations on most tables, I'm sure they lose customers because of this, no one wants to sit at a reserved table even though it is an hour away. There are severs everywhere but they seem to be all over the place, we had a few different servers, didn't really know who 'our' server was. Seems very unorganized. We thought we were invisible because the servers were walking right past us. We waited at the door, waited to order a drink, waited to order our food, waited to get our food, waited to pay our bill. This all took far too long, frustrating. It wasn't very busy. The food is okay, nothing great, fast food quality. it is very noisy and not relaxing at all. The staff are young and very nice but don't know what they're doing, not all of them of course. It seems there are always new servers here, not happy maybe. Not good value. We have been there a few times in the past month. A very friendly pub. The staff is accommodating and service is quick and with a smile. They serve your typical pub food, always tasty and hot. Went after a bad service experience next door at Beefeaters. Sat outside immediately with view of harbour. Waitress came within minutes to ask us about specials. Food was excellent, I had the loaded burger and my guest had the beef dip, good portions and well...cooked, didn't have the crinkly fries as advertised due to supply issues, substitute ones just ok. A little on the pricey side with the burger at $21.95 but it did have a lot of ingredients.More

Second time we had food there. Same experience, the worst Calamari I have ever had, and we travel and go out frequently. I wonder if it even could be called fried calamari what you get. And given the plate size it was quite overpriced. During...previous visit we had hamburgers and they were tasteless, definitely not worth the money you spend.More

Stopped in for lunch, very busy we were checked for COVID pass & seated promptly. We ordered 2 steak sandwiches med rare, both were well done & no flavour, other food plates looked great, as was our service, yes we will be back, but not...for steakMore

I must say we had great service and the food was excellent unfortunately there billing tactics are a little shady. We where told there where Happy Hour Specials and wine was $6.50 for a nine ounce glass and appies where half price. We latter checked...our bill (copy attached) and you can clearly see this was not the case. Our appies where $3.25 and $3.95 off not half price. The wine appeared to be correct. Aside from the strange billing I would definitely recommend.More

Seriously loving the innovative patios these days. Can we just keep them forever? Wednesday night dinner with my parents and  my fiance: Irish pub, beautiful weather, fire pit table 🔥 😍 Honestly, the one thing I can critique is the Caesar I ordered, way too...much Tabasco not much flavour, but they swapped it out for their special a blue raspberry which was delightfully summery. Between the 4 of us we ordered a lot of food,  my favorite was the tuna stack, I also had the tuna salad which was delicious and filling, the Margherita flat bread was a definite winner too. The calamari was outstanding, flavourful and crispy. I'm told the hot wings were really good although I didn't try any. Irish stew and beyond burger were also hits. I didn't notice a gluten free option for burger buns which would have been nice but you can't win em all. I'm not even going to talk about the prices because 1) I didn't pay (thanks dad!)  2) It was great food and a great time, isn't that what everyone wants when they go out?? All in all, I'd reccomend Carlos O'Bryan's all day long...sit on the patio (there's 3 of them to choose from!)!!More

Poor customer service experience. I was actually told by a young Irish bar tender that he was too busy and that my patronage was not required. "Go home" in his words. I would not recommend this place.

We went here with 5 family members for a small anniversary get together. The covid protocols were in place and were adhered to. The staff were friendly and attentive. We had the pachos first and they were very good. Everyone enjoyed their meals. I personally...got the tuna tacos.... Which were excellent.... Overall a very pleasant experience....More

This restaurant is happily following and ensuring protocol is of the highest standard. Distancing was enforced as well as the use of masks.

Food was good and hot. Service was handled well. A good selection of food options available and felt safe with all Covid protocols being followed.
