Saved our anniversary dine plans

We've been to The Cellar Wine Bar and Kitchen in the past and have always enjoyed the food, beverages and service. On this particular occasion we really appreciated all three and, especially, that we were able to secure a table on short notice having not made a reservation. Being a long weekend (BC day) they were, understandably, busy. Especially considering the reduction in capacity due to COVID. That being said the service was still remarkable. Special shout out to our waiter (Laura) who was the absolute best. She was obviously quite busy but handled us in a timely manner and kept us apprised of the status of our order. She was also quite friendly. With a good selection of local wines and food that is consistently delicious we are going to make sure we go back more often when we're in the area.

Excellent meals and service

The Cellar restaurant was excellent! We went with another couple, one of who has an allergy to garlic. The server and the executive chef went above and beyond to ensure her meal had no garlic and she said it was the best restaurant meal she has ever had. The rest of our meals were excellent as well. Highly recommend The Cellar!

Had an absolutely amazing meal here. We shared Kalamari (flash fried squid) and Saganaki (fried cheese flambeed in brandy to start. Both delicious. Between the four of us, one ordered the Artisan Greens with a Prawns Skewer (five large prawns) delicious and filling; Seafood Fettuccini packed with various seafood; and two orders of Greek roast lamb shoulder, which fell off the bone and was deliciously seasoned. So much food but we all kept at it because it was soooo good. The service was excellent and the atmosphere was airy and ethnically decorated. Will definitely make this a regular stop every time we're in Penticton. Highly recommended.

Surprisingly let down in contradiction to our previous visit.

Ate here once before and it was fabulous so we decided to go here tonight for a "sure thing" dinner. Sadly disappointed. Stood at the "blue line" to be seated and had waiters and waitresses walk by without acknowledging us. We were eventually seated and it went downhill from there. Nothing offered to drink or specials mentioned. We read the menu, made our selections, closed the menus and waited until our waiter showed up. At that point he unfolded a piece of paper from his pocket and read us the specials (again, after we'd finally decided what to eat), and asked us if we'd like a drink and took our dinner orders. Our drinks were finished during our appetizer. When the waiter took the plate he left. When he returned with our dinner he then asked if we'd like another drink and we said yes. Dinner was served and finished and still no drinks. I had the stuffed chicken which was dry and tasted only of cooked spinach. Wife's salmon was also overcooked. Waiter never checked on us at any point during our meals to see if things were okay or he would have been told that both meals were overcooked. When we cancelled the drinks after dinner our waiter finally arrived and offered us something desert related on the house but we we don't eat desert usually and were completely put off at this point. Either a poorly trained new waiter and a weak chef who shouldn't be serving at a "top" restaurant. Very disappointed especially after our first experience being the opposite. When factoring the prices vs the quality and service this time, we won't be back unfortunately.

Great food, crappy service

We got a table with no reservation, and were seated promptly. Upon seating, we waited a bit for our waitress, so once she came, we ordered our drinks and food. Drinks came relatively quick, as did the food, but the server did NOT come back to see how the food/drinks were until we were almost finished our dinner. We did order one more drink each but it did take a bit for it to come. And again, once we were done, we had no service at all. We waited and waited and watched as our server went to the other tables around us numerous times and walked right by us on several occasions. My husband finally got frustrated and got up to get our bill and told her the service was crappy. She was offended and started blaming covid for the crappy service and said we should have asked for service, but I work in the industry and that is not how things work.....at all. the food was good but will not go back because of the service. I feel like we were judged on apperance, because we were dressed casual when we both make a lot of money. Not ok.

The Cellar was recommended by our BnB host, so we thought we would try it. BIG mistake. Our waitress was on another planet. She couldn't make eye contact, and made several errors throughout the evening. She was rude and flippant. She wasn't knowledgable about the menu. Every question asked was met with, "I have to check with the chef."The roast beef arrived with no Yorkshire Pudding or horseradish. When we asked for it, we got the pat answer - I will ask the chef where the Yorkshire Pudding is. She charged two of us for a full bottle of wine rather than a glass, and when the mistake was pointed out, she angrily grabbed all the bills to take away and start again. The "chef" - isn't one. The food was really disappointing, and the missing Yorkshire Pudding was a disgusting hockey puck. The gravy could not save it. We complained, and the waitress brought it to the owner's attention. The owner tried to smooth things over by giving us four glasses of ouzo. We didn't need more alcohol. We would have been happier with a few dollars off the bill, which would probably have cost her less than wasting ouzo on diners who didn't drink it. All in all, just a horrible experience. And the pricing was way out of line. Our roast beef dinner was $39! I have passed along our displeasure to the BnB host, and now to all of you. There are plenty of good places to eat in Penticton. Do yourself a favour, and go elsewhere.

Disappointing

Visit with friends for dinner. Everyone else’s dinner was wonderful. I ordered a Lettuce Wrap, it was tasteless, with really runny sauce on noodles and bean sprouts. Asked for more sauce, which didn’t help as it just ran to the bottom of the bowl. Meat was bland and not much of it. Sent the meal back, the lovely waitress was very nice and asked if I wanted anything else, which I declined as everyone else was nearly finished eating. I can understand its busy, and hard to get staff, and I could have put it down to a bad night, but they charged us for my dinner. Really disappointing as we have been before and enjoyed The Cellar.

Disappointed!

Our group of 8 were seated on time at 7pm. Our wine order arrived in a timely manner and we ordered our food and then we waited. Other people came, ordered, ate and left and we were still waiting for our food. Our waitress was great and talked to the kitchen and was told the food would be there when it was there. After about 1 and a half hours, we spoke to the manager who was rude and told us good food takes time to make! She was totally unapologetic. Our food finally arrived after 2 hours and was very good. However, we received no apology nor any offer of free wine or anything else. It was very disappointing!

Had dinner at this restaurant in late September 2020 on a trip through BC.

The menu offers good variety including a nice selection of wines by the glass. Service and food were good. Our main concern was the lack of adherence to public health guidelines with respect to COVID-19. The servers did not wear masks or shields, nor did they respect social distancing guidelines or other guidelines about refilling water, wine etc. The menus were reused and we observed that they were wiped on the outside only but not on the plasticized interior. The payment terminal was wiped intermittently but not after each use. A very uncomfortable experience which we will not be repeating.

We recently dined at the Cellar Wine Bar and it was delicious right down to the vegetables with the entree. We ordered an appetizer of Calamari and it was very lightly battered and Fresh tasting and the dips were wonderful. Would definitely recommend , if you're still a little Leary of dinning out they have everyone spaced accordingly and wear masks.

Amazing!!! Best mussels

Amazing!!! Best mussels in the world. This place had some not so great reviews but WOW absolutely amazing. We have the chicken Brie sandwich, smoked meat sandwich, fish tacos, slavaki pita, Greek salad, fries and two full sets of mussels. 100% recommend this hidden gem on Main Street.

My wife and I stopped in for some wine. They have great selection of very good local wines by the glass and a more extensive one by the bottle. We scanned the menu and it seems like a great array of mostly mediternannean fare with a small smattering of other international cuisines. We will definitely give a try during our next stop in Penticton! The staff were and warm and knowledgeable .

I had the daily special; it was a pork loin, smothered in pan drippings, with garlic mashed & grilled seasoned vegetables. It was fantastic! My boyfriend had the red dragon bowl (red curry with salmon over rice) and also enjoyed it very much. Always a lovely place to go for a “special” dinner, but also casual enough to just pop by for a meal as well. Friendly staff, great cocktails, and they have tvs mounted at the bar for sports fans as well. Overall, great food and a lovely atmosphere.

Great Place

We have been visiting Penticton on a regular basis usually going to the same restaurants, we decided to try something different. We made reservations recommended, and we felt a great vibe in here. We decided rather then a main course we would go with appies. We had 4 altogether really the PEI mussels were awesome. Dessert the Ganache was fantastic and not even sweet. They have a high class chef here and we’ll worth it.

Cant say enough about this restaurant, so glad i stumbled across it as i have been disappointed in the restaurants in Penticton so far. 2 nights in a row i had the dinner special, Seafood Vol au Vant, incredible mix of salmon, shrimp and scallops all in a delicious cream sauce in puff pastry, accompanied by perfectly cooked veggies from the owners garden, seriously folks give this place a try! 3rd night i had the excellent lamb chops. Delicious desserts and Keaton made me a few martini's exactly how i like them. Food made with love and excellent service and cocktails. I willbe back next visit.
