My husband and I tried the White Goose for the first time and I’m convinced my husband is leaving me for their crab cakes!! Everything was delicious!! Crab cakes and baked brie to start and omg what a start! Followed by the shrimp and scallops for me (perfectly done and perfect portions) and the special for my Husband of steak and seafood manicotti in a lemon dill cream sauce. My husband felt really bed that he had to stop eating the manicotti (the food was fine, he’s just weird and has texture issues) and the service was spot on!! Huge props to the lady who was serving the dinning room AND pouring the drinks!! And not once did we feel neglected even though it was busy. Thank you for a wonderful night!!

We booked into the White Goose restaurant as part of our stop over in Prince George. It did not disappoint. It is is a jewel within the down town region of Prince George. We shared a delicious crab stuffed mushroom starter and then enjoyed lamb and salmon specials which were superb. Friendly and accommodating staff in a restaurant which is open from 5pm until it’s customers decide that they are finished and it can close. Perfect!

What a quaint bistro in downtown Prince George. The Spaghetti Carbonara was very delicious and the waitress was so nice. Definitely will be back to try other dishes and recommend the White Goose Bistro to everyone who wants a great meal!

Very disappointed. Advertised a seafood platter with small steak 130. As it was our anniversary thought this would be good. When we arrived it was on the menu as that and then the waiter came to us and said it was 28. more. Service was very poor did not offer anything for anniversary. Over priced as a bait and switch. The waiter dropped us and sent someone else when he knew we weren,t impressed. Food was good but lobster was over cooked. And food was on the cool side. I will not return.

We were traveling through with one night in Prince George from the north and were desperate for a decent meal out that wasn't burgers, pizza, or steak (we have prime tenderloin onboard from Costco lol). This restaurant didn't disappoint! Great cocktails and wine list (featuring some nice BC wines and also imports) and innovative food. We had the prawns and scallops and the special - their braised pork ribs finished in the fryer with a tasty breading in an Asian style, something I would never have thought of doing. Service was impeccable.

Went to Prince George and wanted to try a nice restaurant with great food. We were impressed with service, surroundings and food. The PEI Mussels were a great start. Lobster Ravioli was amazing and would definitely order again. Duo Duck was also great...made from scratch style of food. Can't wait to go again.

My wife and I just got back from dinner at the White Goose Bistro. Our expectations were not high. This restaurant is located in a dodgy part of town. And the curb appeal of the place is zero. But, all that goes away as soon as you get your first taste. This place is all about the food. It is absolutely fantastic and well presented. The wine selection is first rate. And the service is excellent.

The ambience was great… casual classy! The service was excellent: the servers were friendly and extremely efficient but biding their time between the courses. And the food- wow! It was delicious! This was all rounded off with a cup of flavourful decaf coffee. Wonderful evening! Thank you White Goose Bistro!

Another 5 star dinner! We splurged on the 5 course dinner again and it is an experience not just a meal. I highly recommend ordering this and you will be talking about it for days. Each course is chef's surprise presentation. A couple of the courses I would not have otherwise ordered but WOW I am glad I did, ie, Thai Noodle salad. Amazing! Order this for the experience and deliciousness. Service was also perfect.

Get this on our review last year where price was different than when in restaurant. It still shows menu on line the price to be 130. We had to b pay cway more when sitting in restaurant. Will never go to a scamming place like this again.

The White Goose Bistro has been on my radar for a couple of years, and for a very silly reason: I spied their company vehicle outside White Spot and liked their name. Thus, White Goose was added to my “must try” list. I mention this because the various accolades White Goose has received in the past played no role in my desire to try this place; in fact, I only found out about the accolades a couple of years later. After learning about White Goose’s reputation amongst the critics, my excitement to dine here only grew. As such, a recent business trip to Prince George provided the perfect opportunity to see what all the fuss is (or was?) about. White Goose Bistro is a family-owned and operated business that opened its doors in 2006. Not long after opening, the White Goose received some fairly notable media attention: They made Air Canada’s EnRoute magazine’s “top 30 new restaurants” in Canada list later that year. Over the next few years, White Goose ran the gamut and raked up a number of local awards, including a rather strange one, which was proudly noted on their LoveDownTownPG page: “Best PG Restaurant by restaurant blogger Chris Dias,” otherwise known as Prince Gastronome. EnRoute Magazine is kind of prestigious, but the Prince Gastronome award? That’s about as noteworthy as the PookyCake award. Anyway, you’ll notice the one “prestigious” award – from EnRoute – was bestowed over 17 years ago. Sometimes eateries tend to rest on their laurels once they get some recognition. I’ve seen this with a number of eateries featured on Food Network programs like “You Gotta Eat Here” and “Diners, Drive-ins, and Dives.” They get the celebrity nod and coast. Would the White Goose do the same? Or would they continue to wow patrons like they did during their fledgling years? The White Goose Bistro fashions itself a casual, but slightly upscale eatery as is evidenced by the menu, which “speaks for itself.” And I’m not going to lie: The menu at White Goose sounds very appealing on paper. Gnocchi Short Ribs? Duo of Duck? Delectable Burgers? Who could say no to that? I certainly couldn’t, so I visited the Goose for lunch and dinner. But before I comment on the food, let me say a brief word on the space. The White Goose is definitely casual – and much smaller than I anticipated. There are a number of small tables, all with white tablecloth over top. It’s a small touch – classic – and I like it. The ceiling and some of the walls are lime green, which I’m not particularly keen on. It just seems kind of “off” given the vibe. Otherwise, the space is mostly unremarkable. Service, while kind during lunch and dinner, was a bit rough around the edges. During dinner, for example, the server almost sounded as though she were yelling at patrons (though, in fairness, I think it was just her naturally loud voice). Given this restaurant’s reputation, my expectations going in were reasonably high. For lunch, I ordered the Crab Cakes and Cook’s Burger. I literally received my two jumbo crab cakes within 5 minutes of ordering (hmmm). They looked nice, but my experience seemed to mirror that of TripAdvisor reviewer mbw56. My crab cakes, while nice and crispy on the outside, were practically devoid of flavour. I could not taste the crab. The accompanying truffle hollandaise sauce, to quote mbw56, was “white and tasteless.” The Cook’s Burger certainly looked good. Served with prosciutto, goat cheese (there was no blue cheese), sautéed and balsamic glazed onions and arugula w/ Goose mayo, it promised to be a divine bite. For the most part, the components worked well – even the creamy goat cheese – but the actual burger patty was too overdone and charred. As such, it was dry. The accompanying salad had potential but it was “heavily drenched in a sweet dressing” that detracted from it. At this point, I wasn’t seeing the accolades touted, but gave the benefit of the doubt. Perhaps dinner would be a more impressive experience? I returned for dinner a few hours later. This time, I ordered the prawns and Duo of Duck. The prawns are described as “10 large tiger prawns sautéed in garlic butter and served with toast points.” The prawns were good, but – almost contradictorily – underwhelmed because this dish turned out to be something I could easily make at home for a fraction of the cost. Basic garlic butter and store-bought prawns. How about the Duo of Duck? On the menu it is described as “roasted duck breast and pan seared confit leg finished with a sweet mustard glaze.” Presentation was nice (I really liked the plate, or canvas, if you will), but flavours were lacking. As well, the roasted duck breast was tough and chewy while the leg was dry as clay. The grey “sweet mustard glaze” added nothing. On the upside, I did enjoy the accompanying roasted vegetables. FOOD: 2/5 SERVICE: 2.5/5 ATMOSPHERE: 3/5 VALUE: 2/5 RECOMMENDATION: The White Goose Bistro notes that Chef Ryan Cyre “has a passion in the kitchen,” but one can only assume he was on vacation during my visit because that “passion” certainly wasn’t in evidence. Far from being treated to sophisticated taste on par with any big city restaurant, I was left with disappointment on the plate and regret at not having dined elsewhere. One can only assume the Goose, like so many other eateries that get a modicum of recognition, is resting on its nearly two-decade old laurels, and that’s sad. Not recommended. Inspired menu. Many restaurants are pretty pedestrian when it comes to vegan options- not this lovely bistro. We had their portobello burger and the butternut squash burger. Both were superb. The mushroom burger was marinated with mint and served with a mango relish and jalapeño aioli, the butternut squash came with an apple and onion jam…both elevated the dishes to the point we think any carnivore would become vegan!(they do though also have dishes for non vegan or vegetarian). While the restaurant, like so many these days, noted they were short staffed. The solo waitress was friendly and helpful, and the service was also excellent. Would highly recommend getting off the TransCanada and coming into Golden for a meal at this restaurant.
