Read on trip advisor and then was in the vicinity and said let's give it a try and Boy am I glad I did. The lamb and chicken tibs (as they call it) served on a Injera (a roti type made out of special grains which Atkilt informed me are the smallest grains in the world) had a slight lemony flavor that went perfectly well with the lamb and chicken. The flavors are indeed a good blend of spicy and lemony. I visited at 5PM which allowed me to learn a little bit about Ethiopian food as the restaurant was empty. The décor is simple and very inviting and I am told they also have live music on the weekends. I am not sure if many folks know of or are aware of Ethiopian food but I must say you will not be disappointed. I will certainly try more of these restaurants and they will have to live up to the standards set by Gojo Café which are pretty high.

Food is so delicious and the atmosphere is lovely. The service was very friendly and understanding of the fact that we were new to Ethiopian food. Don't be afraid to try something new! :)

Gojo is one little gem of a restaurant that is well worth finding.
Look for its tiny storefront along the east side of Commercial Drive, just south of 12th.
A very welcoming and comfortable little place with interesting, appetizing and probably unfamiliar food. Don't let that put you off--the waiter will be happy to explain the menu.
The vegetarian plate (shared with however many people you want) is served on a large pancake, topped with decorative little dollops of spinach, lentils and beans. Most of these little tastes are savoury, but some are slightly hot.
No utensils are required--you will be served with smaller pieces of pancake to scoop up the veggies with. Very tasty and satisfying, it's a great way to eat with friends.
Only one thing mystifies me. Why isn't Gojo Little Africa packed every day? I can only guess that it is because people haven't found it.
Excellent food, excellent service, very reasonable pricing. What's not to like?
Seek out this great little eatery. You will be glad you did.

First time trying Ethiopian food and wow, what a great first impression. I had the fish house special and the cubed stewed beef with spices, both were delicious! The prices are very reasonable and the portions are massive! I'll definitely be returning. The service and music was awesome as well.

This family-run cafe serves the BEST Ethiopian food in the city. The village atmosphere is cute, the service is always personable and attentive, and I never want to stop eating because everything tastes SO GOOD, every single time.
If you've never eaten Ethiopian food, the server will be very helpful in finding dishes you will enjoy. The traditional bread, injera, is flavourful, has great mouth-feel, and is gluten-free (made from a grain called teff). If you are sensitive to spice, they can accommodate that. If you like rosemary, garlic, red/yellow/green peppers, onions... you will be thrilled by Ethiopian cuisine. There are lots of vegan / veggie options and use lentils in several dshes. There are many options for carnivores too.
The prices are also really good.
If you are looking for a solid dining experience, you will have it at Gojo Cafe!

Gojo is a fabulous addition to the limited number of Ethiopian and Eritrean establishments on the east side. The food is impeccable, as is the service, although it is not clear as what the establishment's prospects will be in this relatively off-beat location on the Drive. But if you like Ethiopian food, give the place a try - it's really worth it!

Had a wonderful time and enjoyed the food. Great ethiopian taste. Try out "lega tibs" that was my favorite one.

Not the fanciest place, but the food was excellent. We had a combination of veggie and fish. Nice combination of spices. It was my friends first time having Ethiopoan food, and she loved it also. I will definitely return.

Four of us visited Gojo for a late dinner (about 9pm) whilst on holiday in Vancouver. We had spotted it a few days before so thought we'd give it a try. We hadn't eaten Ethiopian food before so we didn't really know what to expect but it was fantastic. The server went out of his way to accommodate us and the food was really delicious and great value. I'd definitely recommend this restaurant for a warm welcome and yummy food!

I walked past this restaurant for years always meaning to give it a try. Well I finally did and all I can say is that I wish I had gone sooner! Amazing food, so flavorful and delicious!
Having never tried Ethiopian food, we asked for a recommendation and it exceeded our expectations.
The samosas were the best I have ever tried (they use lentils rather than potatoes).
The gentleman running the place was extremely attentive and pleasant and it appeared that he was the chef and the host!
This place is a hidden gem and a must try for people who love to try new places!!

We are four who have decided to explore the ethnic restaurants of Vancouver BC. Our first foray was a winner. I was given the honour of the first pick and I chose Gojo Cafe on Commercial Dr. It was excellent. We picked a lunchtime outing because, OK let's face it we're old er. Lunch was a good choice because it was not busy. We received excellent service and were able to ask questions without holding up the server. We chose large sharing trays with a selection of meats and vegetables in sauces on the milder end of the spectrum, although much hotter options existed.
Fantastic. Next time you would like a little taste of Ethiopian fare, do try the Gojo Cafe. You will enjoy it.

We have gone to Gojo a number of times as it is one of our favourite spots. The food here is authentic, made on premise and so full of flavour. The cook uses rich spices which brings on into the exotic nature of this food for being on the wetcoast of Canada. The injira is amazing. The last time we went was my birthday. We asked about the traditional coffee ceremony and though they were not totally prepared, they quickly put one together for us. We heard the history of this cewreminy and expreienced first hand something that is a tradition in Ethipia, the home of the coffee bean. We have always received excellent service at Gojo, the accomodate every request, are always happy and courteous and then the amazing part happens when you egt the bill and find that for what you received, the cost is so reasonable. I can not give a higher recommendation to Gojo.
