About
We are Vancouver's only Indigenous restaurant. We specialize in wild fish, free range game meat and of course bannock, freshly baked daily. We use traditional ingredients that we prepare and present in a modern way. In our small casual bistro everyone is welcome as they are. In the spirit of First Nations' traditions, our intention is to provide a gathering place where the focus is on the people and the food. Please be aware that we love celebrating the seasons, so our menu changes regularly and without notice. Inez (Nuxalk Nation), Owner.

Visited Vancouver, BC from Washington, DC USA (friends from CA) over the weekend. This was truly the highlight of our visit. When you step off the plane at the Vancouver airport, you are immediately enveloped in their love and respect for their First People. It’s...genuine and something transcendent. This was our first foray into Indigenous Food and such a delight. Locally sourced food and drinks, wonderful small restaurant ambiance and and impeccable staff they gives you just the right amount of history to link the journey your palate will soon undertake to their history, customs and culture. The menu is small, but all the food exceptional and you simply cannot go wrong. This restaurants embodies what a dining should be - and experience to celebrate our love of food and our cultures.More

The restaurant is lovely and decorated with beautiful indigenous art. It is welcoming and very cozy. The service and the food were spectacular. We had the salmon and sablefish and a variety of appetizers. The portions were delicious and generous. I can't wait to go...again! The wine was from local indigenous wineries and was excellent. Definitely a must if you visit Vancouver. And a must if you are a local. Thank you Inez for a truly wonderful eveningMore

My partner and I went for dinner on a weeknight. We made the reservation the day before and it was easy to get a table in the early evening. If you wanted prime dinner hours you would probably need to make the reservation earlier than...the day before. The atmosphere was very pleasant and the staff was very kind. They really enjoyed teaching us about indigenous food and culture, and we really enjoyed learning about it. Everything we had was amazing, and the sable dish was one of the best dishes we've ever had. The salmon burger was also very good but it was hard to hold a candle to the sable. I had never heard of bannock before but I really liked it - definitely recommend getting the bannock side dish (even if your main dish comes with bannock already). I felt very fortunate to be introduced to a fine dining interpretation of indigenous food. I would totally go back on a future trip to Vancouver (and now I want to find indigenous-owned and -created restaurants wherever I go!).More

Two of six of us were celebrating Birthdays and we couldn't have picked a better place. The food, atmosphere and service was excellent. My Sable fish was cooked to perfection and I might now be addicted to Bannock. As an added treat, we enjoyed learning...about how some of the food was prepared such as the sage used in their dishes is the same type of sage that's used for smudging. And we learned that the Pemmicon Mousse appetizer is traditionally smoked dried meat that the travellers used to bury in leather pouches for their travels. We didn't have it this time but look forward to trying it the next. Had the salmon mousse with bannock crackers and mushrooms on toasted Bannock this time and both were flavourful and delicious. Highly recommend the featured Sable fish main dish. Excellent experience all around.More

Cozy, intimate space. Beautiful indiginous art. Staff was very welcoming and food was amazing. We had the Bison Pot Roast and the special Sable Fish and enjoyed the sparkling Rose wine. Appetizers and dessert were also fantastic. We will definately be back!

Wonderful evening! This restaurant has a semi-casual ambience with high quality dining. Every dish was exceptional, particularly the pemmican mousse, salmon sampler and game sampler, bison pot roast and sausage dinner. The only weak part of the meal was the white wine which was too...bland for our taste buds. The service was prompt and friendly but not intrusive. We really enjoyed having different staff (including the owner) pop by to check on us. It looks like the staff have a great rapport with one another and it shows in the incredible food. We will definitely return!More

Our evening was fantastic from start to finish. From the warm welcome from our server Jill and maitre d', Darnell, right through to the maple whiskey before we headed for home, everything was thoughtfully prepared, beautifully presented and delicious. We had the game charcuterie board,...black cod and sausage dinner (elk) for mains and the berry pie and ice cream to share for dessert. Drinks were an Amnesiac Double IPA and a Berry cocktail followed by the Hee-Hee Tel Kin Red. Would highly recommend everything we tried and we'll be back again to try some of the other menu items. We went on a Saturday night and they were busy but nothing was too much trouble. Inez stopped to chat on more than one occasion.More

As someone travelling from abroad, I knew I wanted to try some First Nations cuisine if I could, and this little place was recommended to me by a local friend. I travelled all the way down Broadway to grab takeout and I can say it’s...one of the best meals I had during my entire Vancouver trip. The meat is so tender and the shop itself is beautifully decorated with native art and other little things you can buy. The staff are super friendly. I’d absolutely recommend!More

The greatest thing I love about going to Salmon n Bannock is knowing that my experience will be authentically Indigenous. The food, the music, the ambience, the staff, the art is all Indigenous! Be prepared to leave smiling and with a full stomach. The samplers...offer a great variety of venison or salmon options that cannot be experienced in any other restaurant in metro Vancouver. Their amazing vegetarian and gluten free options also mean I can take a wide variety of family and friends here, knowing they will always be taken care of (for gluten free, be sure to include this info with your reservation).More

This is easily the best meal I had in Vancouver. I heard about the restaurant and its unique appeal whilst on a food tour of the city. It is the only First Nations owned and operated restaurant in the city and therefore offers something others...simply cannot. Jeremy was very helpful in arranging a reservation by email and the service at the restaurant was very welcoming. The food was incredible. Try the bison! You will not regret going here and I highly recommend that everyone visits if they get the chance. I would (and will) return to Vancouver just so that I can eat here again!More

Great meal at this indigenous focussed restaurant. Three of us tried as many items on the menu as we could and nothing disappointed. May have been the best meal on our trip!

Salmon and Bannock is the only indigenous owned, operated restaurant in Vancouver. It serves only indigenous food and wine. Place is attractive, service warm, food delicious and presented beautifully. Wine was delicious! Servers very friendly and the owner was there and spoke with us. Only...quibble is that service was spotty and slow. But we didn’t really mind and enjoyed the whole experience.More
