We had dinner there which started with shared baked Pacific oysters with garlic and light truffle. Absolutely original and delicious. My wife chose Halibut which came with tiny mussels and carrots and gnocchi. The blend was perfect complimentary flavours. My Canadian eye fillet was perfectly...More

Great food. That was it. Service for a restaurant of this alleged calibre was less than satisfactory. Menu was too limited. Comfort level was below satisfactory. Plastic see-through chairs, really? Been waiting for a couple of years to go and so disappointed. One and only...More

What a nice find! The restaurant is actually larger than it appears with the top and back sections. Great greeting, beautiful settings with the wines being artistically displayed. The food was delicious and the service super attentive, unobtrusive. I tried the oysters, beef tartare, halibut...More

Nice setting, though a little noisy and crowded. Brief menu which I think is a plus. Everything we had was wonderful.

Small cozy place in downtown Vancouver. We managed to get a late reservation at the restaurant and ended up going 15 minutes early. So started at the bar with a bottle of wine (Syrah from the Okinaga Valley). They definitely have a good selection of...More

We ate late, but it was very busy and bustling with young locals and tourists alike! This was our wedding anniversary so it had to be right. And so it was. We started with a glass of the BC bubbly, delightful. Starters were sweetbreads (not...More

Great food, friendly service; Very nice decor, situated in Gastown. Quite pricey, especially the wines. But if you are willing to spend this, a very good choice!

It was a business dinner at this nice French restaurant. After quite a wait our French host was getting uptight with management as he had booked ahead of time. My baked oysters were outstanding. So was the duck. Overall the food was definitely out of...More

Took my mom for her 75th Birthday. Restaurant is very cool with the exposed brick. Drink special at the time was their take on a margherita; very tasty! Wine list is good. The presentation of plates was very nice. Our party had the Beef Tenderloin,...More

A visit to Gastown is like turning back the clock and
stepping into a bygone era. With the distinction of
being Vancouver's oldest neighborhood, the many
plaques that stud the cobbled streets of Gastown tell
the story of its colorful past, giving Vancouver's
history a more lively presence here than anywhere
else. Having been originally founded around a popular
worker's saloon, it's no wonder that today some of

I can't recall anyone speaking French there. The food was good. But, I don't think it's a spot to practice French.

L'Abattoir is located in the center of Gastown between historic Gaoler's Mews and Blood Alley. The restaurant was built in the 19th century and is the site of Vancouver's first jail. Originally buttressed to the city's main butchery and meat packing district, the name L'Abattoir pays homage to the neighbourhood's colourful past. Set in a refurbished brick and beam building that combines classic French tile work with industrial fixtures, natural wood, and glass and steel finishes, the restaurant offers a bar and lounge setting, elevated dining room and plush, sun soaked atrium. Chef Lee Cooper and Owner / Operator Paul Grunberg are dedicated to highlighting the finer points of eating and drinking in L'Abattoir's informed but informal setting. French influenced West Coast fare is paired with Wine Director Lisa Haley's eclectic wine program and Bar Manager Thor Paulson's innovative cocktail list to offer a truly unique dining experience. L'Abattoir adds to Gastown's bustling breakfast scene with a menu mixing comforting staples with hearty, unique entrees. Thirsty brunchers can sip on creative cocktails, as well as daily feature vermouth on the rocks. Non-alcoholic options include daily bottled house made iced teas. Just adjacent to L'Abattoir's regular dining room is the restaurant's stunning new private dining facility. The 1,200 sq ft. facility features historical architectural elements complimented by a contemporary design aesthetic. While large enough for 50 people seated or 70 standing, the room retains an intimate ambiance and a noise-reducing barrier blocks out the hustle and bustle of the regular dining room.
