Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best
2024
Since bursting on to the scene in 2011, Hawksworth Restaurant has earned its place amongst the finest restaurants in the world, winning multiple accolades from MICHELIN, Forbes, LA LISTE, and Canada's 100 Best. Recognized for its compelling and technically skilled cuisine, deep and diverse wine list, inventive cocktail program, and warm, genuine hospitality. Menus conceived by celebrated Canadian Chef David Hawksworth, Executive Chef Sylvain Assie, and Pastry Chef Marissa Gonzalez showcase ingredient-led contemporary cuisine, that is firmly rooted in the classics. Using only the highest quality ingredients sourced locally and from around the world, bold, bright flavours are presented in skillfully executed dishes that echo nostalgia with a modern and local twist.
MICHELIN Guide: Good cooking
Respected native son Chef David Hawksworth helms this eponymous restaurant nestled inside the posh Rosewood Hotel Georgia. Enter through the lobby or directly from Georgia Street into an elegant bar where guests who look as if they just stepped off a fashion shoot sip well-crafted drinks. In the dining room, a shimmering chandelier and an eye-catching wall of wine set an elegant tone.Simple luxuries never disappoint, as in the caviar and oysters. Then, savor the light and elegant mushroom consommé stocked with meaty matsutake and foie gras. Agnolotti with hazelnut & celery foam is almost too pretty to eat, but then you'd miss the earthy umami of the roasted king oyster mushrooms. Finally, it's difficult to pick just one, so order the macaron sampling.

Let’s be blunt; we came here for the astonishing happy hour deal and experienced a delightful team, a pleasant space, great drinks and delicious food options. Most of the write ups on this space focus upon the delightful dining room, which did have a lovely overall feel. Since we were there pre dinner on both occasions we visited, the dining room was quiet and the bar was full and busy. Even so, we were able to hold a conversation at normal voice levels and got great attention and charming bar tenders still focused upon crafting lovely drinks albeit at a great value. I did not try the gorgeous looking burger but did sample other delights including those cocktail friendly oysters! Def put this one on your list as a great option for early drinks and either retire to the full dining room or try another great restaurant in the area. You wont be disappointed. And then there is that lovely Damien Hirst to keep your eyes busy.

Incredible experience. We enjoyed the tasting menu and it was amazing. The dishes were very well prepared and tasty and the wine pairings were perfect with each glass being poured by the sommelier who explained the details of the wine and why he chose it. The wait staff were excellent and couldn’t do enough for us. We will definitely be going back in the future.

Our dinner at Hawksworth capped off three wonderful days in Vancouver. From the moment we entered, we felt pampered and welcomed. Bertrand, our server extraordinaire, in addition to being knowledgeable was engaging and helpful in suggestions and quantities. The food was outstanding. The KFC cauliflower we were told is the only dish that has been on the menu continuously. The melon and cucumber soup was beauty and tasted even better. Our entrees, all fish, were each exceptional and we loved dessert. We were honored to be invited to tour the kitchen at the end of our meal. What an additional treat. We all agreed it was one of the best meals we have had. If you can only do one “special” meal in Vancouver-make it Hawlsworth.

It's just before noon and the restaurant of course has most of their tables available. In this day and age you would have thought that seating two (older) women at the worst table possible, right next to the kitchen, is a thing of the past. No. Needless to say we smiled and very politely explained that I was hearing challenged. After a brief consultation we were escorted to a lovely table in the adjoining room. Our wait staff were exceptional, and the sommelier spoke "vinolingo" brilliantly! Who were we to not defer to his recommendation? Our half carafe arrived. On the humorous side of things, we were now hesitant to say anything critical about the wine. What did we know after all? When the sommelier asked how we liked his recommendation, we both discovered neither of us were enjoying it LOL! Graciously he then brought a taster first which was a less dry and more agreeable wine to sip on while waiting for our appetizers. The plated presentations throughout the service were artfully created. Our shared foie gras appetizer was to die for. It was so fine and creamy. The creme brûlée was accented with clever accents that just popped in your mouth like the unique sesame crackers. Ah the main course...the waiter enthusiastically shared with us that the flat iron steak had been put back on the menu by popular demand. Simple, decision made! My steak was so sinewy that I could not cut through it after repeated strokes of my steak knife. The serving was generous and yes it was cooked to perfection. Sadly it had very little flavour to it. The restaurant offered a replacement but it was too late. At that point I declined as our plates were being removed. Normally the fact that I hadn't eaten my meat portion would have been observed much earlier in the meal. For those of us that are hearing challenged, this is one of the few high end restaurants that you can have an easy conversations with your guests. Their fireplace adds a welcome warmth too on any overcast day. The ladies washroom was beautiful and handicapped friendly. Potential patrons should be aware that the valet parking fee is $40.00. Finishing on a pawsitive note my dog will hopefully be able to chew this flat iron steak.

This spot was pretty upper-class if I have to admit...you're greeted by a wonderful valet since this restaurant is located in a hotel. Your then introduced to the wonderful, black themed rooms of the restaurant. The layout was very high end, and the staff was phenomenal. When it came to the food, our drinks came AFTER our appetizers which was quite interesting. The cocktails were not bad at all! Highly recommend the peanut butter one, even though it sounds unorthodox. The appetizers showed up and they were absolutely delicious. The burrata is a must, and so is the steelhead. When it came to the main course, I was quite disappointed. I ordered the tenderloin served with pomme dauphine and a roasted onion. I asked for medium rare, and was served a rare steak that I believe may have been frozen.. The meat had little to no flavor and the pomme dauphine had a weird aftertaste to it. When it came to dessert, I was thoroughly impressed with the chocolate torte. It had a wonderful caramel cream on the bottom that you could scoop up with the sour cream ice cream it came with and was very rich. I recommend you order it to share due to that richness. Overall, my experience was an 8/10 with the quality of food at a 6.7/10, due to the small portion sizes for the amount of money your paying for it. Do NOT come here with a very empty stomach!! You will be left unsatisfied when the bill reaches your hands.

Absolutely would not recommend!! We've been to Hawksworth and Reflections and haven't had any issues in the past. We are on the mailing list for Hawksworth and had received Spring is in the air special at Hawksworth group. Welcoming Spring With a New Menu at Hawksworth Calling all Halibut lovers - the season is back! Skillfully incorporating the freshest and finest seasonal ingredients, chef Hawksworth and his brilliant culinary team amplify and accentuate the natural flavours and textures of this prized white fish. Indulge in a selection of newly added, intricate and contemporary plates such as the Nettle Ravioli served with housemade nettle purée, egg yolk, ricotta and goat cheese, or the opulent Chicken Supreme accompanied by almond, english pea, and a luscious chicken and butter sauce. Join us for lunch April 8th through 10th to experience a $29 three course prix-fixe menu which features a selection of brunch inspired dishes, for the Easter long weekend. I called the restaurant to book a table for the 10th and confirmed the menu listed above. When we ready to order the menu provided did mot have that special so we inquired and the server had no clue what we were talking about! Luckily I still had the email and showed it to the server. She then had the manager come to advise us that Menu is not available but will make an exception, however we will get a different dessert. We ordered the halibut!! It took 45 minutes for our lunch to be served and we got chicken!!!!!! Our server again asked the manager Scott to come talk to us again!! He the brought the menu which we were offered and advised me Halibut is not offered!! Again the menu in the restaurant and the email offer was completely different which I showed Scott and he said he would honour it but totally negated on his word!! The chicken was not what we wanted!! It was tasteless and on the dry side, he did apologize and did mot charge us!! However he had the nerve to bring the menu to educate me Halibut us not in the menu!! Very poor customer service!! He totally dismissed the email offer and concentrated on the restaurant menu. I have included the menu in the picture and the email body is at the beginning of this review. This is a 5 star restaurant with a Zero Star service!! Definitely will not return to any of their establishments!!!

Hello, Thank you for providing us with this feedback. We apologize that your recent dining experience did not meet your expectations and that our e-newsletter was ambiguous. Our Easter prix-fixe menu featured "brunch inspired plates", such as classic eggs benedict and a canadian breakfast, as stated in the email. Halibut is currently featured on our seasonal menu, however it is only available during dinner service at this time. We recognize that this should have been specified in the newsletter and acknowledge that it was not appropriately communicated to you, during your visit. We are committed to upholding the reputation for excellence we have earned and will address these concerns internally with our service team.

Poor experience and poor meal pacing. It took quite a while to receive water and have our order taken but the kitchen denied an order request. Not impressed. Then within a few minutes the appetizers appeared but our wine order had not been served. The wine followed a while later. There was a long wait between the instant appetizers and the main course. So long that most of the dinner wine was consumed. Two of the mains were veal - one ordered rare and the other medium. Both come out the same. The food was OK but not great. There are lots of staff roaming the restaurant but the service levels are still low. The attitude is not welcoming. The only ray of sunshine was the sommelier who was very friendly, knowledgeable and helpful. We have been to Hawksworth on previous occasions but it has lost its mojo and I now definitely do not recommend this restaurant especially for the high cost.

We had an absolutely amazing evening at Hawksworth!! It was my husbands birthday and we did the Chefs Tasting Menu. Each dish was better than the last - and they have an extensive mocktail menu as well which we enjoyed. The service was by far the best I’ve seen, they did not feel overbearing but no need was met unmet at any point (as soon as you get up to use the bathroom for example your napkin is re-folded neatly on the table). Could not have been a better spot to celebrate our special occasion :)

DISAPPOINTED. The main dining area was far too loud to be considered "fine dining" (beside a bar and TV airing football). Food tasted mediocre at best and portions were woefully small, especially for the price! The staff were lukewarm and their service could be improved upon. Never again, would not recommend.

They didn't get their star and they're unhappy, but two points: (1) On our half-dozen visits over the last several years, we have consistently noticed that the quality of the wait staff just doesn't measure up to the ambitions of the restaurant. Careless, peremptory, not that well turned out. (2) At their prix-fixe Christmas Day dinner, we would have been happier if we hadn't had to send the main courses, after a long wait for them, back to the kitchen to be reheated.

We went here to surprise a friend for her birthday. The staff are incredible. We arrived early and all staff were made aware of the surprise, they disgusted it at the front desk by telling my friend and her husband it was a booking for 2, and they made sure we knew when they arrived-just fantastic. For the price I was slightly disappointed with my meal, the venison, I found the spice crust too over powering and I didn’t love it as much as I wanted to. However, the cocktails were very unique and the whole table enjoyed trying a bunch! I would definitely return and try other dishes!

My long time friend and I were in town for a concert and wanted to fancy up our dinner. We made reservations about three weeks in advance for this beautiful restaurant. Upon arrival our coats were checked, and we were seated in a beautiful and warm dining room. We decided to do the tasting menu with the wine pairing, I believe the tasting menu changes either monthly or bi monthly. The portions were generous for a tasting menu, the wine was paired perfectly. We commented on every glass we were served because of how well it complimented the food. Service was impeccable, the staff took time to ensure you were enjoying the meal. I will be returning to Hawksworth on my next trip to Vancouver for sure. This is a restaurant worth visiting again and again.

Our 3 course set lunch was as exceptional as ever. The standard, quality and flair of each dish was highly appreciated. Service was as attentive and delightful as ever. Serving wine by the carafe is a revelation in Vancouver but not in France. Such a brilliant idea so why isn't anyone else thinking of this. The 29 dollar menu was amazing value and the increase to 39 dollars is still good value and we will return. Keep it up and we will support you.

Honestly I have been dying to try Hawksworth after experiencing an inflight meal onboard Air Canada, which features Canadian Chef's dishes on its business class cabin. Therefore the first thing when I planned this Canada trip is to book a dinner here. The decor of the restaurant was fun and modern, which was the theme of hip restaurants around the world. The service was mostly good. The menu was innovative and most of the dishes that we ended up were good, but it just missed the "wow" factor. The most annoying part of the dinner was the constant "upselling" by our server. You could add so and so to your dish for this additional price. I don't mind paying more for a main because we know what kind of restaurants we are stepping into. However, this kind of upselling is annoying, and when you are hosting, you don't want your guests to feel pressured in accepting or not accepting the upselling. Honestly, just put the damn scallops to that dish and charge it accordingly. Or you just list the add-on items to the menu so the guests can order what he or she wants, and if she or he wants that lobster tail. There is always this upselling aspect for each course. I am sure the server just follows the instruction of the restaurant, but it "cheapens" the whole experience. I hope the restaurant will take note of my review, which is shared by my guests during dinner too. The only good advice that the server offers is that the main course is a bit on the small side. Gosh she is not wrong about it. Even as someone who is from Hong Kong and used to small portions, you really need to order some side dishes. Compared to the dinner at Le Crocodile, the portion is almost pathetic small. If you don't want side dishes, you need to order at least two appetizers - maybe both a starter and a soup. The dinner itself was good. We ordered two seafood platters to share and everything was delicious. Thankfully there was nothing more that the server can upsell here again. My cousin ordered the summer corn chowder which she loved. For main course, both the halibut and the crispy pork belly & scallop were good too. I slightly prefer the halibut prepared by Le Crocodile the night before but this dish is good. For dessert (I am not much a dessert eater but need that course to fill me up), I ordered the dark chocolate cremeux, which was really good. Overall, it was a nice dinner but for me, it just fell slightly short of that "wow" factor and I was turned off by the "upselling" sales pitch by the restaurant. Will I come back? I am really not sure.

Returned to Vancouver for annual visit and dined at Hawksworth. Wonderful experience again. Brent, Prem and Asha are very skilled and welcoming at the bar. They are willing to make drinks that are not on the menu and they are great. We chose the Tasting Menu and were delighted with the courses. Antoine walked us through some perfect wine pairings and Richard was a warm and cordial server. The four courses do not overwhelm with big portions and everything is exquisitely prepared. By the end of the meal I was pleasantly filled.
