In Vancouver, Canada for our honeymoon and a friend recommended Black + Blue and we were not disappointed. Wonderful chic restaurant with stylish interior and ambiance. The steak, food and service was delicious. We came in early and it happened to be happy hour time so we were able to get some delicious appetizers at a discounted price which was a real treat. All the steaks and the beef carpaccio pizza is a must try.

We visited this restaurant to celebrate my husband's birthday and our server Gaby went an extra mile to make it special for us. She explained the different meat cuts to us along with some recommendations and she was very attentive. The meat flavour and tenderness was just perfect. Although a bit expensive, this is a great place to celebrate special ocassions with friends and family.

Lloyd made our dinner experience amazing! He had excellent recommendations, remembered our names throughout the meal, and even gave us his favorite dessert on the house at the end.
We tried food items we'd never had before, including Wagyu carpaccio, tableside steak tartare, Wagyu stripsteak, and Beef Wellington. All of the dishes were amazing and cooked to perfection. Oh, and I can't forget the huge brioche! It was mouthwatering, and enormous. And the burrata salad was absolutely incredible. Unfortunately, we didn't get any pictures because we were too much in awe of the tastiness and experience. Next time we'll get pics!
The lighting, table service, and level of noise in the restaurant were perfect. Just bright enough to make us all look fabulous, sommelier and tableside service were excellent, and we could hear each other talk without yelling while at the same time couldn't hear other conversations around us.
This was our first time visiting this establishment, but certainly won't be the last. Thanks for the warm welcome, Lloyd!

The service was not consistent with the reputation as a world class steakhouse. The server was not helpful with the craft cocktail list. We asked about a drink with an unfamiliar bourbon. All the server could say was that it was Japanese, which was obvious from the name. The server did not offer the presentation descrbing and demonstrating the various meat cuts. Other tables received this, and it was featured on the promotional on line video. When we asked for the presentation, we were met with sighs and eye rolls. We were then served the wrong steak. We had ordered the tomahawk ribeye for two and got the standared rib eye cut in half. There was nothing offered while we waited for the right ribeye, not even a bread basket, and no accomodation such as a free drink or desert. The correct meat cut was tasty, but not cooked to order- rare rather than medium rare. The side of creamed spinach was disappointing, not a true creamed spinach but some spinach with cream poured over it and a couple of chuncks of bacon.

Overall experience:
The meet and greet with the server was subpar. Like with 3 hostess at the door, we hoped for a much better meet and greet. I gave my name to the hostess and it took some scrolling around the iPad to find a suitable seat for us when the restaurant was only 30% seated.
Upon leading us to our seats, a server walked by and our hostess just left us there while having a quick chat and or arrangement but just felt that wasn’t very professional. All in all, the host is the face of the restaurant, and we’ve had better experiences at Earls…..which isn’t what we expected from black and blue. Or maybe that’s the style.
Our server:
Lisa was great! This won’t be long but doesn’t mean she isn’t good, it’s just she so good that there is no need to use so many adjectives to rave about her. But most importantly, it was her sincerity and attention to detail that made us felt so welcomed. We ordered the Dine Out menu which in general isn’t very appealing to servers because it’s so lowly priced so may affect overall check price and hence tip, but Lisa did not made us feel unwelcome at all! Even though tables started filling up around us and she was serving them all, she still always had time to made us feel wanted.

Decor was nice but we felt like an inconvenience. Booked a 7:30 reservation for two Dec 8th and as soon as we got there we were reminded we only had two hours. I knew this as it said this when I made the reservation online and then again the night before they called to make sure we only would be two hours. I told our server that wouldn’t be an issue as long as they took care of us in this time. By this time I was actually annoyed of the constant time reminder. We had several different people come to our table. Not one asked how our night was or mentioned their names like in pretty much every other restaurant I have gone to over the years. The gentlemen who explained the cuts of meat was nice but we never saw him after that. We were seated in a narrow section next to a balcony overlooking the bar and people constantly were going past with other peoples orders. It was cramped and just overall unwelcoming. Food was ok. Our bill was well over $300 which I expected but the experience was just not good. All staff seemed rushed in every different direction. We were only in Vancouver for three nights and I feel like we wasted one going here. It truly felt like they were just pushing people through like cattle. I would not recommend this restaurants dining room to anyone. If you are looking for a relaxing upscale steakhouse this place is missing the welcoming vibe and certainly wasn’t relaxing. I did appreciate one of the staff members noticing that I had no place to put my purse. He brought me a little shelf to slide under the table for my purse. Thank you. I do appreciate this but the rest of the night was just blah. Better service at a keg, earls or any standard steakhouse. This restaurant would benefit by having some mystery guests come in and do a full evaluation. With some changes it could be a nice and “welcoming” place. First change…don’t make your guests feel rushed before they even sit down.

A very nice atmosphere but they originally sat us at a table looking straight into the kitchen and as we weren't happy with that, they moved us to a nicer table but right beside the servers station which was noisy and distracting.
I ordered the 8 oz fillet which is very small when it's served on a little white plate, all by itself, with not even a garnish! It was a la carte so I ordered some parmesan fries which came in their own separate bowl with a bit of truffle aoili. The fries were delicious but the steak itself was underseasoned though I had ordered bernaise sauce which helped. Given the high price of this meal I would never go back. At a time when money is tight for most people and fine dining is a treat, I certainly feel my money would have been better spent at any number of other steak house restaurants in Vancouver.
The service was good but nothing exceptional.

Mixed… really expensive, but that was not unexpected. Pre warned us we only had 2.5 hours to dine, but we were longer due to service. Steak for 2 at our table came overcooked…wagu $55 per ounce, 8 ozs overcooked….of course you have to send it back. Steak for the other 2 at the table , one of which was probably overcooked but not ruined, was consumed. We finished our steak before they brought back a new steak for the over done steak. I think it took 30 minutes. I was expecting high priority, ie 10-15 minutes. No such urgency.
Offered us free dessert but too a really long time to serve it.
Service did not match the price point!

The worst birthday dinner ever!!
We made a reservation weeks ago requesting roof top seatings and were being asked if there is any special occasion. We mentioned it is for birthday celebration. Upon arrival, the host did greet us with Happy birthday but noted that the roof top seatings were fully occupied, which is disappointing but understandable on a Sat night. We were being sat at a tiny table right outside the back of house area with extreme high traffic, staff were running around. We were almost hit by the passerby multiple times.
We ordered some oysters, lobster arancini, risotto and a steak with two drinks. Food is above average, especially the West coast oyster and Mushroom risotto. They are delicious.
Then it is a huge downturn, we were given the dessert menu after finishing the mains. We were ready to order but had been waiting a long time, despite the effort of us making eye contact and even waving and said hi to the server, the server just walked pass multiple times. The dessert eventually came and what's most disappointing is that there was no birthday wordings nor candle. Meanwhile, two tables in the same zone got the birthday plating with candles. We just felt being single out, or should I say discriminated? Is it because we did not pick the most pricey item? Feels like the server is always in a rush and did check in throughout the night, feeling like we have to 'beg' to be served. Maybe she just doesn't care.
We spoke with a manager, Amir when getting the bills, he did try to make it up but we were pretty full at that point, and did not take any more orders. He then offer to waive the drinks and dessert on the bills. BUT it is about the entire dining experience, it did not start well and we still tried to let it go. At the end it came to a point that I have to share the feedback regarding this devastating experience.

Regarding your request to be seated on The Roof, I apologize that we were unable to accommodate you. The space is indeed smaller than our interior dining room and fills up quickly, especially on weekends. While we always do our best to honour seating requests, it's not always possible. I understand that being seated in a busy area of the dining room may not have provided the intimate setting you were hoping for, and I regret that this affected your evening.
On a positive note, I'm glad to hear that you appreciated the quality of our food, despite the shortcomings in service. Your feedback has been shared with our culinary and management teams, and we will be reassessing our service steps to ensure such issues do not occur in the future.

I made the reservation for birthday dinner. It was a terrible experience. Our waiter left us hanging with the menu for too long , and someone else had to take our order.
After our dinner , they again left us waiting for our special birthday request and surprisingly no one took care of it even after mentioning on reservations and on the table as well. So, we had to wrap the bill and leave.

Fantastic experience. We hadn't booked a table so it was a gamble to go here. We got a table on the second floor and were received by our waiter. He went through the menu and not only that, he brought a tray with the different steaks and presented them one by one. We chose what we wanted to eat and were also presented with a suggestion of wine to go with what we ordered.
The food tasted excellent and was prepared in the right way according to the way we wanted it.
The atmosphere in the restaurant was pleasant and the noise level was no higher than it was possible to talk in a normal conversational tone.
I will be happy to return on my next visit to Vancouver.

We went for a belated birthday dinner for my boyfriend and the experience was lovely from the moment we set foot in the restaurant. It was our first time going to Black and Blue and I was immediately impressed by the decor. It was very quiet in the restaurant when we first arrived which was actually very nice.
I was always intimidated by how fancy the restaurant seemed but the friendly door staff immediately made me feel welcome. The hostess taking us to our table was very friendly. All of the staff was incredibly attentive and helpful- rather they were out waiter or not they would fill up our waters or remove our plates once we were finished. I am a slow eater and I appreciated that they would ask me if I was still working on my plate rather than just take it so we could move on to the next course. They were very respectful of our time and allowed us to enjoy each course at our own pace.
Before I go into the food I need to say that our server Nathalia was fantastic. She was very warm and attentive and you could tell she really loves what she does. Being a server is not easy especially in a high end restaurant, but she went above and beyond for us and all the tables in our section. We could tell she was incredibly knowledgeable, efficient, and friendly. A truly 10/10 server. I would be thrilled to have her as my server again.
The food was superb, everything came out in great time. We did the Prime Rib special they do on Sundays and what they give you for the price is out of this world. The caesar salad was the perfect size for a nice start to the meal. The Prime Rib was so tender and flavourful and all the side dishes and accoutrements paired with the dish perfectly, AND THE BUTTER CAKE. I was stuffed before we even got to the cake but it would be criminal not eating it while it is fresh and hot. It was the perfect balance of rich and bold while still feeling light. Overall I was incredibly impressed with the entire experience. You could feel the passion for fine dining from the moment you walk in, from the decor, the presentation of the food, the staff- I can’t wait to go again.

It was incredibly gratifying to read your review. First impressions are everything. We have a grand entrance to a large space, and it is essential that our hostess team make you feel cozy and welcome. This can be a tall order; way to go, hostess team!
Our team is focused on guests' experience. When good service is executed correctly, it should be seamless: everyone is involved without ever being seen. Most people don't realize the intricate work of a service team, but you felt the results. Thank you for appreciating one of the essential details of our service at Black + Blue.
Nathalia is an excellent addition to our team. She is very professional and well-versed in food and wine facts. Her amazing smile and friendly demeanour make you feel like a guest in her home. She's incredible.
Sunday is a great day to join us. Our Sunday Prime Rib special is impressive. It's a 3-course meal, but the serving size is perfect. Just when you think you can't eat anything more, we bring you a piece of butter cake. Such a simple dessert and so delicious it's hard to stop eating... as a matter of fact, most people don't stop. It's the perfect ending.

Visited Vancouver from Australia, took my adult son to the steakhouse as a first-time experience for me but also for my son’s birthday. Black&Blue is his new local these days, that he’d heard of but not tried.
EXQUISITE QUALITY, and a memorable experience of tastes, ambience, and hospitality. Our host Sophie surprised us with a genuinely informative show&tell on the types of steaks, their diverse qualities and origins etc.
Sophie was highly attentive all night (without lingering), very personable, and brought my son and me impressive trays of high quality cuisine with excellent style.
Sophie’s conversation and charm distinctly made our event super-special; AND brought my son a dessert birthday treat from the chef, big enough to share. A Mum couldn’t be more delighted 😊!
Worth every dollar (and calorie!).

Sophie is a gem of a server. Her soft-spoken, friendly demeanour is an absolute delight. The steakboard presentation is an informative visual aid to steaks. It never fails to wow.

The roof top deck at Black and Blue does not disappoint. Service, ambiance, menu selection and food quality are excellent.
As a group of lady friends celebrating a few birthdays we were especially impressed with the attention to deta by our server, Elin. She was well informed, knowledgeable and she made sure our time was special.
I will continue to keep this location in my top five favorites for consistency of experience. Elin took this to the next level by her level of service and attention to detail. A true expert in her field. Thank you -
