Absolutely delicious dinner tonight!! Best grilled calamari ever!! Only place we know that does calamari without batter. We were with our friends from Toronto and they said nothing like it in Toronto. Others in our party had fried fish (cod) and grilled blackened halibut. Fish Cafe has been around for 23 years and Marcus (owner and chef) continues to consistently provide outstanding food, good portion sizes, at reasonable prices and a fabulous atmosphere.

The best seafood meal in Vancouver!!! Fish Cafe is owned by South African, Marcus Stiller. He has become a legend in Vancouver for the excellent food and great service at his restaurant in Kerrisdale. Plus, the only place I know of in the Lower Mainland where one gets delicious grilled calamari with no batter. Others had snapper, cod and steelhead and was the best they’d had! Even his fries are first rate!! Be sure to stop by for awesome flavourful South African cooking and hospitality. Make sure to introduce yourself to Marcus.

I go to the Fish Cafe once a week, at least. The fish is always fresh and gorgeously cooked. Today was exceptional - the chef had Dover sole on the board. Had to try it and it was AMAZING!!! I've had Dover sole at one of the most expensive French restaurants in Vancouver where there's a lot more fussiness over the cooking and plating. Ultimately, the sole today at the Fish Cafe was as good if not better. Simply grilled in butter, there is no place to hide any mistakes; and there were none. Delicious and perfect, as is all the fish served here. You can't go wrong. And I have a new favourite at my favourite restaurant in town.

Embarrassing! We finally came to this place when it was open (the hours are erratic and never what is advertised) and the salmon was slimy, fishy, and obviously farmed. The owner is incredibly volatile and unwilling to accept any criticism. Steer clear.

We went here about a week ago and discovered the business was closed. There was a notice on the door that said they were closed for a week and they will be open for dinner on June 29. We had made the long drive as a group that day to eat there and were disappointed to find it was closed for the week but figured we would return on June 29 since a part of our group was in town until June 30.
We still wanted to try this place so we rescheduled as a group to meet there again at 5 pm on June 29. Part of our family from the island was in town and met us there. This was there last night in town and they had ventured with us to try this restaurant the week earlier. We were excited to try this place. It is of note that we also called the restaurant on the day of June 29 just to make sure it will be open. The voicemail said they will be open on June 29 for dinner at 5 pm just as the notice on the door a week earlier stated. We also checked their web site and there was no indications that the restaurant was closedor that they had taken time off for a family event.
However on June 29 there was now a new notice on the door that said they will be open for dinner on June 30. We had planned as a group twice to drive there and eat and were disappointed that we wasted our time and had planned our schedule around the details provided by the restaurant. Very poor communication to their customers!

The food isn't great and the management is even worse. On the menu, the swordfish is described as succulent. It was quite the opposite. Potentially frozen? Which surprises me being located on the ocean. When I made a complaint about it to our server (who was doing a fine job) the manager came out and made some offensive comments to me about how I must be uneducated and don't know what I'm talking about. I still paid and left immediately. Got a nice slice of watermelon from the farmers market down the block.

We chose this restaurant for a pre- concert dinner as the event was just around the corner. We allowed 1.25 hours but only received our food (simple order of 2 main dishes), 15 minutes before we had to leave.
The kitchen is severely understaffed so they cannot manage with the orders. As a result also the food was fairly ho-hum. We won’t bother to go back.
Shout out to their new waitress though who did all she could to help.

Dry fish, soggy fries and long waits even when it is not busy. We went there and ordered a platter for two and only one of the fish was OK, but the rest were overcooked and dry. The crazy thing is that when they get any criticism, the person in charge gets super defensive and tries to change the topic by attacking and labeling you. He or she sounds like a racist bigot. Avoid at any cost!!

Small space with a few outdoor tables as well. What's up on the blackboard are the choices - only what's fresh. Very reasonable prices. Friendly service. So glad to see this great place survived Covid. Stop in.

Without doubt the best fish in town.
I visit Vancouver about once a year, coming from the Mediterranean, we know fish.
I can honestly say this place has the best fish I have ever eaten.

We've been here twice now in the past week and have discovered a great place to have a delicious fish meal close to us for NOT an arm and a leg.
I would have given the restaurant a 5-star, however the ambiance and the seats (a little hard on the bum) is wanting...but not a deterrent.
We had the blackened fish...myself snapper and my wife salmon...perfectly done, super hot, great crispy fries, excellent service, great price.
The restaurant fills up, so get there early!
