We visited this bar several times during our first three days in Canada because after the first visit we knew that we would be welcomed and served well. We ate there only once, sampling their mac’n’cheese which was delicious. The boss man (sorry useless with...names!) was great suggesting the beers to drink, and his partner was a great server and a lady with whom it was clear you did not mess with. Overall a great taste of Vancouver and we would revisit in a moment.More

Our family of 5-1/2 had the cheese sticks, Would highly Half Stop platter and a Chicken Burger. This was more than enough food to feed us. The food was excellent and the service was quick and friendly. The Caesar cocktails were also outstanding.

All the meat tasted identical, old and wet . Nothing was fall off the bone here. My first bite was a fry and at that moment I knew I was in for a bad experience. No love in this food. You can get a fresher...tasting meal in a soup line. Cramped, dark and cold. It appeared to more of a neighbourhood bar than a restaurant. More of an atmosphere for the neighbourhood drunks. Plenty of leftovers which we were happy to give to the first homeless people sleeping under a tarp.More

This place has a small and cozy feel to it. It smells great! And the staff are very chatty and sarcastic with a solid sense of humour. If you are looking for a place to have a drink, a meal and a good chat with...a bartender, this is it! As my title suggests, I don't eat meat, but they were happy to make some alterations to the Buffalo Cauliflower (no bacon) so I could eat it. They also do gluten-free sauces and are happy to discuss other ways to make your meal celiac-friendly. Just ask the server and if they cannot answer your questions, they will just send the chef to chat with you. Love it! Definitely will return. :)More

We have been at the buck stop for a snack and a beer. The service was excellent, all food we ordered was homemade and good. The washroom though needed some cleaning... Maybe because of the all day festival on the street.

...in a nice little neighbourhood pub. Totally unpretentious, simple decor. One woman (owner?) running both the bar and the tables without missing a beat. Attentive service and good beer. We sat at the window with a great view of everyone in the world walking up...and down Denman. Fun.More

Searched places near my hotel when I was in Vancouver for a work event and found this place. Super casual comfy unassuming atmosphere, very friendly and welcoming staff. Most importantly, awesome food! I had the small plate BBQ with pulled pork, brisket and ribs, plus...a side of coleslaw. The cornbread and hush puppies looked amazing. I would definitely come back here again.More

We were unsure about where to eat, there are a lot of options on Denman but very busy as well! We went in to the dimly lit restaurant and immediately liked the vibe. It was a little too dark as I could barely read the...menu. Drinks on one side, Food on the other. They were sold out of the wings so the server/barkeep recommended the Buffalo Cauliflower. They also didn't have the beer I was interested in so I went with the recommended The Buckstop's Here. The food was great, excellent presentation, and hot. The drink was very different from my usual but it was so good we stayed for two. I liked the decor from the restaurant painting on the wall to the antler chandelier. A cozy place to hang out for some good eats.More

We were staying around the corner in the Sylvia Hotel and looking for some comfort food relatively late in the evening. Buckstop was the perfect fit. We had a shared platter advertised as for 2-3 but it would have fed 4 very easily (or 4...English people anyway). The cornbread and hush puppies with maple butter were absolutely delicious. The pork ribs were also particularly good, and the beers were good too. What I liked most was the friendly, warm, natural service. Travelling as a middle-aged couple and our son (in his 20s), it was surprisingly rare to find restaurant or bar staff that were able to deal with all three of us in the same relaxed, friendly way. This was a small, dark, intimate place but we all instantly were made to feel comfortable, and went on our way well fed and happy. What more could you ask?More

While visiting Canada, my husband was craving barbecue (we are from the States). This was recommended by an owner of another restaurant but I was a little hesitant if he should try it being that most Canadians eat pretty healthy and light. I just couldn't...imagine that's something like barbecue being as tasty as it is in the South. We deep fry and smother everything, lol. He ordered ribs, cole slaw, fries and baked beans for about $30 Canadian dollars. He said the ribs and bake beans were okay. I tried the bake beans, cole slaw and fries. It was okay but I wasn't impressed nor would I return. The staff was friendly and the restaurant stays open late which is a plus.More

I can not recommend this place in good conscience. We went because it was featured on You Gotta Eat Here which is typically a pretty good barometer. There were 4 of us on a Monday and it was not busy. There was one waitress/bartender and...one person in the kitchen. We waited a long time for everything. I don’t blame staff. This is a management problem. The food was cold when we got it so it definitely affected the flavours. And I’m not suggesting it wasn’t hot off the grille, it was cool to the touch. The flavours were ok at best. The place is a dive, it’s dark as hell and the food was not worth seeking this place out specifically. The couple seated next to us got there after us and were served before us. If this was my only complaint then I wouldn’t even complain. The only plus I can give this place is that the prices are very reasonable. If you are looking for good bbq, keep looking.More

Recommended by hotel staff so we stopped in for early dinner. Small place -located on Denman street-with menu including BBQ, burgers, buffalo cauliflower, fried pickles, chicken wings, daily specials, and more . We had the venison burger and chili frito special. Food was very good...and server was very friendly. Full liquor bar and several beers on tap. The regular customers dining in were very friendly. Enjoyed our meal, conversations about area and the atmosphere, so we would definitely return. They were not open for lunch, but opened around 4:30pm.More

Not only was our food not hot, the chef was out of the kitchen for over a long period of time that the couple next to us had been waiting 45 minutes since they ordered their food and we had to hear the entire conversation...- which was turning us off - but we decided to stay and give Buckstop a chance. The staff in the bar and dining area were not in communication at all with the chefs in the kitchen. This was a holiday weekend, a Saturday night, and even though they may not have been busy, the restaurant should still perform at their best for any customer who decides to dine in on any evening. Unfortunately it seemed we were the only ones who got a cold plate, while others had piping hot plates of meat and condiments. We literally asked for our food to go and then brought it home to reheat and enjoy. We also didn't get offered the house made sauces like everyone else did. Bar/Dining staff were definitely overwhelmed with complaints and general service - perhaps understaffed? We had heard so many great things about this establishment however we did not get any of those "great" experiences. Perhaps we will go one more time to give them a second chance, but to be honest the barbecue wasn't anything special - the brisket was sold out (and it definitely wasn't busy!)More
