Got the Grilled Lemongrass porkchop on rice with deep-fried spring roll and free soup. The meat is flavourful but a bit chewy and the spring roll is tough. The place is neat and clean. Service fee of 15% is required for dine-in. Quality of food...and service is not worth the price.More

Regarding the coming winter, it is good to know where you can have proper, tasty, delicious broth soup. A family-run restaurant with reasonable pricing and attentive service. Will keep it on top of my soup olaces.

Well well well, after all these years trying to find the perfect spring rolls (Regina SK - style;,yes, you read correctly: Regina). We finally found the perfect spring rolls so far in Vancouver. Fat fried and delicious. Not like the Costco kind you get at...most place. These ones are delish!!! Don’t be fooled by the pic. They look tiny but they’re quite large so go easy on the order and try the spicy pho as well. Kids had usual bbq pork and chicken dish. Delicious as well. Anyhoo, I can’t wait for my next visit. Now;,excuses to go downtown for lunch woot woot!More

Nothing fancy here...but the food is very good and very fresh. Small place, clean, family run, very good menu. We always gravitate to a dish with the fried spring roll - delicious. Last time was lemon chicken with rice, some salad, spring roll, we shared...it along with a bowl of broth (very very delicious) We go often and will continue to go often. Since we shared a dinner plate, our cost was about 12 bucks. The rice bowls looked great, but I am too old to handle one by myself - but - they will pack it up to take home for the next day.More

I visit the Bon Cafe regularly and am always pleased with their broth. It is a labour of love and you can taste it. It is balanced with a strong anise flavour- a favorite of mine in Vietnamese cooking. My favorite dishes (in no particular...order) : Rare beef pho, chicken bánh mi, and Satay chicken and rice noodle in soup. The Satay soup is especially nice with a hint of spice and not too fishy tasting as some Vietnamese satay’s can be.More

I took my daughter here because we were in the area and it was her recommendation a couple of years ago to come to this place. I have been to this restaurant a couple of times since my last review during the summer of 2015....We arrived around 1:15 PM on a Monday and the small 36 seat restaurant was almost full. Restaurant seating can be described as cozy. In fact, there are 3 rows (4 tables each row, side by side) with each row seating 8 people. In other words, if the restaurant is full you will be sitting very close to other customers as the tables touch each other. The 2 of us ordered the following: • vegetarian spring rolls with soy sauce based dipping sauce (around $8/9 for 3 rolls) – tasty but expensive even though they are quite large. I was disappointed there wasn’t any fish sauce based dipping sauce. • vegetarian pho (around $9) – lots of vegetables and tofu • # 8 pho dac biet (around $10 for a small) – beef protein noodle soup with meatball, sliced rare beef, sliced brisket, tripe and tendon with vermicelli. Tasty broth and plenty of beef protein. The total bill was $29.35 (including taxes) before the tip. Breakdown of rating • Food quality and taste – 3.75/4 out of 5 rating. • Value vis-à-vis price portion size – pricing is fair/good value and the servings were a good size. • Service – average; had to ask for tea refills, food arrived in a timely manner The restaurant is worth going to if you’re in the area. I would give the restaurant a 3.75/4 out 5 for the food. Notes & Tips: • Pho dac biet – is the “house special” pho for most of the pho restaurants I’ve been to. • Extensive menu - appetizers, combination meat & rice dishes, combination meat & vermicelli dishes, pho dishes and beverages. • There is street parking. • Accepts credit cards • Unisex washroom • There is another Vietnamese restaurant less than ½ block North of the Bon Café – Au Petit Cafe.More

On a cold, rainy evening, we felt like pho, so we stopped here because it was nearby when I found it on Yelp. It's a very generic/non-descript place. I've probably driven by this place a hundred times and never really noticed it before. When we...entered, it looks like just about any other no-frills family owned pho restaurant. Lots of tables for two put together so you can fit any combination of people up to about 8 people. We were sat down right away and given the menus. We shared: - Cha Gio (Deep Fried Springroll) - Good. Very good sized portions, and filling was still juicy when I bit in. The wrapper was fried well, but was a bit on the chewy side. - Pho Chin Bo Vien (Cooked Beef, Beef Ball rice noodle soup) - Good size, good soup and good noodles. Service is very basic, but it came with a smile, so that was good enough for me. Free street parking can be found along Main and 33rd Ave. Overall, a nice neighbourhood spot for a good quick lunch/dinner without a need to overspend on the frills. Food is about a 3.5, but I bumped up my rating to 4 because of value.More

A no frills restaurant but the food is delicious and great value. We had the lemongrass grilled chicken & rice with a fried spring roll. Portion was a good size and only $10. A complimentary small bowl of traditional clear soup is served before your...order is served and free hot tea is also included. The Pho we saw being served to other customers looked v good & authentic. Would definitely go back here again.More

Nothing fancy, but good tasting pho broth and good fried spring rolls. We also had the chicken with rice plate and short ribs with rice plate - both very nice. Only open from 11 to 7pm so go early for a cafe style dinner or...take-away. Don't expect anything more than good food, good price, not a fancy dancy place. The above dinner was $25 for two !More

We'd been walking around all morning in the VanDusen Gardens and the Bloedel Conservatory when we realized that it was necessary to get some food into our bellies! After another short walk we came upon Bon Cafe. It was a cold rainy day and the...warm smell of pho drew us in. A great menu made it hard to decide and our interests peaked by the differences in appearance from the dishes we were used to in Ontario. We were not disappointed. The sliced grilled pork and spring rolls were the main elements of the dishes we chose. Perfection.More

Still somehow a secret. This little gem has fantastic pho and the sandwiches are killer. They have been there for years and yet are still not packed. Atmosphere is seriously lacking (4/10 as they have pictures of their food under the glass topped tables and...lace curtains) The food is 9.5/10 service 7/10 family run (not everyone speaks english) but the food is so good it is worth it. We eat here Sundays. and sometimes another day of the week if we can sneak it into our schedule)More

The Bon Cafe is a typical Vietnamese Cafe, but with a fairly extensive menu. I opted for a Combo C (beef stew on rice, a spring roll and a soft drink for $15 including gratuity. A satisfying lunch.

Had been meaning to visit this place for a while but we just kept missing each other. Quaint, clean Mom & Pop shop that unfortunately, gets much less attention than Au Petit up the street. I was tight on time so decided just to order...their Chicken Banh Mi to go. GREAT sandwich - plenty of fixins including chunks of lemongrass chicken and not the pulverized stuff served at other places. Fresh veggies and cilantro kept this sandwich moist within the quality baguette. Can't wait to go back and try their Pho and other dishes. If their as good as the sandwich I had then this place should be put on your radar when craving Vietnamese.More

This Vietnamese restaurant is located in East Vancouver on the Southwest corner of 33rd Avenue and Main Street. We arrived around 3:00 PM for a very late lunch and as expected the restaurant was empty except for 1 other patron. We came here as it...was close by and my daughter had eaten here a few times and she said the food was good. Back in March of 2014, I had taken my daughter to “Au Petit Café” a Vietnamese restaurant on the next block and she stated at that time, the food at Bon Café was better. There are lots of menu choices itemized as appetizers, rice dishes, vermicelli dishes, pho dishes and beverages. Restaurant seating can be described as cosy. In fact, there are 3 rows (4 tables each row) with each row seating 8 people. In other words, if the restaurant is full you will be sitting very close to other customers as the tables touch each other. The 3 of us ordered the following: • Vegetarian combo ($11) that included a vegetarian banh mi and vegetarian pho. • #38 - Lemon grass chicken, spring rolls, vermicelli, pickled carrots & daikon, and dipping sauce ($9.00). This dish contains nuts. • Pork meat patty, shrimp paste on sugar cane, fine rice vermicelli stuck together that you can you as a crepe. Vegetables included fresh mint, basil, cucumbers and lettuce leaves ($15.95). The vegetables were really fresh. My daughter ordered the vegetarian combo. The pho had lots of vegetables and tofu puffs. The condiments – basil and bean sprouts were really fresh as well. My spouse ordered this dish from a photo underneath the table top glass. Fortunately or unfortunately there was no price on the photo; only a description. This was the most expensive dish on the menu otherwise she would’ve probably not ordered it. It did taste good. She has never had this dish before but it appears the way to eat this dish is to wrap the vegetables and other herbs with the leaf lettuce and the vermicelli and then dip it into the sauce. She commented she could have probably shared her dish. I had the lemongrass chicken entrée based on the server’s recommendation as I had a hard time deciding due to the numerous items on the menu. I enjoyed my spring rolls and the lemon grass chicken. There were a lot of vermicelli noodles. The pickled daikon and carrots were not too tart or sweet. The fish sauce based dipping sauce was good as the fish sauce did not overwhelm the rest of the sauce. I ended up with a slightly dry mouth possibly indicating that the MSG flavour enhancer was used. The pricing is fair and the servings were a good size; good value. There are no service complaints. We had to ask for tea refills, at which time the server bought us a teapot. The restaurant is worth going to if you’re in the area. I would give the restaurant a 3.75 out 5 for the quality of food, portion size and taste. Notes & Tips: • There is street parking. I parked on the side street. • During the time we were there, there were 2 take out orders and 2 other patrons. • Small restaurant that seats 38 people • Typical “plain Jane” décor including glass covered tables with photos of some menu items • Accepts credit cards but there is a surcharge for meals less than $5.00. • Unisex washroom is wheelchair accessible but maybe slightly difficult to access because of the narrow aisle way • Less than ½ block North of the Bon Café and on the same side are 2 restaurants that I have also eaten at – Au Petit Café, another Vietnamese restaurant and Long’s noodle house serving Asian dishes. See my reviews for both restaurants.More
