Johnny's on Oak is our go-to Friday night restaurant. Friendly staff, great food and beer, and large portions. You'll love it.
We have been going to Johnny's On Oak for over 10 years (when it was still called Best Neighbors). The pizza is the best I have ever eaten, if you like traditional crust, but it is not overly bready. Generous and high quality toppings. Also...fabulous, salads, calamari, ribs, steaks...really we have never had anything we didn't think was top notch. The recent renovations are beautiful! Very comfortable and relaxing. The staff and service is top notch. Highly recommended!More
I’ve been going here for years as I lived really close and always loved the food. I moved away a year ago and last month new I’d be close so I ordered my favorite pizza to go. The name has changed but the service and...quality is still amazing and I can’t recommend them enough :)More
My husband and I had an enjoyable dinner here. We appreciate an owner operated restaurant and liked how enthusiastic the owner is about making his restaurant even better. We'd been here before and now there are different chairs and tables, the washrooms have been updated...and that area is now warm, and the service was beyond beyond reproach. Other dishes have been added to menu. The former name of this restaurant is The Best Neighbor's. My husband enjoyed his roast lamb despite it being mostly bones and grisly. My fish and chips was served hot with generous portions of fish.More
It was my family's first time here. We wanted food in the area and thought we would like Greek. The décor is plain and the restaurant has no authentic feel to it. The service was terrible. Once we sat down and ordered, it took almost...1/2 hour for our appetizers to come. We noticed a lot of take out orders, so I guess those orders were first priority. The food wasn't much better. We ordered Saganaki and Kalamari to share. The Saganaki was the smallest serving we had ever seen. About half the size you get at other Greek restaurants. The Kalamari was one of the best dishes of the evening though. My son order a Caesar salad and it took forever to come. We were told there was a mix up in the kitchen. My husband ordered Spanakopita and it was almost burnt. He also had French Onion Soup which was okay. I had the Roast Lamb dinner which was a good amount of food and was okay. Nothing special. My one son had the Fried Chicken Burger and he was happy with it but the bun was so full of items that he had a difficult time holding it in his hands. My other son ordered the Ham Pepperoni and Mushroom pizza and it was also okay. Nothing special. By the way, the Chicken burger also took longer to come than any of the other orders. My husband wanted a Greek coffee and the server didn't even know what it was let alone that they served it. Which they didn't. The only really good thing about this restaurant was that they give First Responders a discount. So my husband got $3 off his meal. Woopee!More
Good food and service! The decor is a bit dark but otherwise a good place to eat. The staff were very friendly and accommodating. The price is good for good quality food.
Dark greys walls, black furniture, dubious decor: ugly paintings, all of the same nature. But was the food good? No. Zucchini wedges dripped in oily, thick batter. I had to dig them out. Pita bread dry, thick and tasteless. Costco tzatziki sauce? Thick crusted greasy...pizza if you like that. House wine ok. Very friendly service but I wouldn’t go back.More
Stopped in for a quick dinner and was craving pizza...not take out pizza but in house pizza...did not disappoint our pizza was delicious lots of toppings and the crust was crispy...our waitress was attentive but not hovering and the restaurant has a nice small place...feel...overall a great little spot with great pizza and staffMore
We visited the neighbours for our daughters birthday. 12 people. We made them aware of the size of our party 5 days in advance. We ordered our meals at 6:45. Did not receive the starter salad until 7:50. Waitress never came to our table to...ask if we wanted refills or anything. We were left on our own completely. There were 3 girls on the floor and a maximum of 6 tables full at this time. When we finally did get our meals everyone seemed to enjoy most of their meals with the exception of the lasagnas. My husband and mother said it was the worst lasagna they have ever made. No sauce. Dried out and hard. I told him to return it but due to the fact it took 2 hours to even receive our dinner he didn’t want to bother. I don’t agree I would of said something. But my husband says it’s too much hassle. We use to love coming here but service is horrible now and the one dish we use to love is now the worst. This makes me sad.More
I know Neapolitan style pizza is thin crust, I’ve even been to Naples and had one. But I was brought up on thick crust and I prefer it hot, chewy, lots of sauce & cheese. That’s how Best Neighbours serves it, on a raised tray....I’ve been eating here for over 25 years and seen it’s interior change several times. They try to have a bar area with sports TVs on every wall. I guess it works for them because they continue to have customers. I sit near the windows or the washrooms and hope that the TV In that corner is off. The food is both Greek & Italian, the prices are reasonable, the portions are huge. Parking can be a challenge, as it’s mainly Oak St. or side streets.More
I hate to publish a negative review and hope they were on an off night. I'd heard good things about this place, and brought friends. The server was inexperienced, bringing only some of the meals, explaining at time of serving everyone else, that they'd run...out of a selection. Ordered a litre of wine and a glass arrived. My meal...Roast lamb was delicious, but pricier than other similar restaurants, and my request for all potato, no rice could not be accommodated. My friends mocked the green salad with 'tomato bums' and a selection of two dressings...… No one was poisoned and we all left fed, but disappointed that the experience was not up to the good tales I'd heard....More
Best neighbors is one of our favorite casual restaurants in Vancouver. The lamb and mousaka Are fantastic and the pizza is old school . We’ve never had a meal we didn’t enjoy and their pizzas are always fresh if we order delivery. Kudos to the...owners and staff for maintaining their high standards on a consistent basis.More
The staff were friendly and provided efficient service. The food was tasty and the restaurant was clearly popular in the neighbourhood with an additional outdoor eating area.
They really know how to make an old fashioned thick pizza. Lots of cheese and sauce. We always get a BN Veggie which has lots of veggies. The only thing that it needs is more spice. I ask them to add or bring oregano, which...makes it fantastic. They haven’t taken my hint, yet so I have to ask them to do it. Add a Greek salad, which has lots of feta mixed in and 4 people will leave full.More
