The two of us didn’t have a reservation and we didn’t have any problem getting a table at 6 pm on a Tuesday. We ordered the Hot Appetizer Platter and the Seafood Platter for Two. The Hot Appetizer Platter had kalamari, spanakopita, keftedes, dolmathes, and feta cheese. The Seafood Platter came with a Greek salad, warm pita bread, rice, and potatoes. The Seafood Platter had prawns, scallops, kalamari (broiled and deep fried), salmon, and halibut. Each platter was more than enough for two people. We needed a doggie bag at the end since there was so much food. We didn’t order dessert because we were so full. We were very happy with our meal and the service was friendly and efficient. Total cost of our meal with a glass of wine was $102 before tip.

Maria’sTaverna opened on Kitsilano’s 4th Ave in 1987, and this small Greek restaurant is still popular with regulars and passerbys. I was welcome by the wonderful sever, called Ester, who looked after me attentively, making sure I had all I needed. I started with the cold appetizer of tarama salata with pita bread at 6.95$. It certainly hit the spot. I followed with the lamb shoulder, served with potatoes, rice and a Greek salad, again with pita bread at 21.99$ It was a good-sized portion, as the picture, which accompanies this review shows. One does not leave hungry. Posted by S Fuller

This is a small restaurant with big heart. It's community based, family friendly, relatively quiet. Staff were friendly and observant. Food was well prepared and well presented. We had shrimp/scallop souvlaki and the lamb souvlaki. The platter came withJumbo shrimp and large scallops. The other with tender morsels of lamb. What we did not like was the base of the table at which we sat. The base prevented comfortable placing of the feet.

Maria’s Taverna, a long-established Greek restaurant on Kitsilano well-populated 4th Ave restaurant strip, just off Vine, makes diners feel welcome the moment they step in. J, its welcoming host, asks for one’s vaccine card most graciously, then seating patrons with the same grace in their preferred seats. While his equally gracious colleague, Ester, takes over with the serving, J still keeps an attentive eye to see if he can help both diners and Ester. They were both delightful. I ordered tarama with pita at 6.95$, which was delicious, followed by a beef skewer at 12..95$ on its own and a side of Greek- style potatoes at 3,95$. I asked for the beef to be medium rare and it was done perfectly . I ended with Bougatsa, a Greek dessert of custard in a filo party. Very nice. I always like it because it is not too sweet and is light — just perfect to end a meal. It was 6.95$ My beverage was an IPA on tap at 6.00$ a sleeve. Good good; good service, and a good ambience. As a long time customer of this establishment up until recent months was always consistently delicious . But this past weekend's dinner delivery came both late and cold . Calamari no longer swimming in seawater but an Olympic pool of grease . Obviously immersed in inadequately heated fryer each piece wore a thick coat of oil . Pizza stone cold and took almost twice as long as usual . When reporting the problem to owner he was cocky , conceited and disrespectful . " Not enough delivery drivers " is not a valid excuse . Then limit the volume of orders accepted and manage those successfully . No longer can I recommend this once amazing Greek restaurant . There are so many other with owners who more humbly appreciate their clientele and lack the conceit attitude and greed .

Maria's has long been a favorite Vancouver restaurant. Last Sunday afternoon we hosted a post-COVID wedding celebration there with 23 guests from four countries. The food was great, the staff were attentive and super flexible and the few patrons also in attendance were friendly in the face of our noise and merriment. Thank you all - we will be back to see you again soon. Note: the food served to us looked exactly like the pictures at the top of the main page. Yum!

Three of us had dinner at this storefront restaurant a few nights ago. The restaurant itself was attractive with tables nicely spaced, noise level tolerable, and staff fairly attentive. The menu looked promising, genuinely appetizing. Two of us ordered paithakia skaras (lamb chops) and my wife selected the vegetarian casserole. The lamb chops (four per order) were quite tasty, but they were small. The waiter told us the chops would be medium to well done, but they were too close to well done for my taste. However, overall they were okay. The problem was the casserole. It wasn't as described. It sounded as though it was similar to moussaka with slight variation (feta cheese but no bechamel sauce). It was served steaming hot—so hot that my wife couldn’t touch it for almost ten minutes. (Too long in the microwave?) And when she could finally try it, it turned out to be inedible: way too many peppers and something strange with the oil (and there was too much of it). I did not taste it because it was also visually very unappealing. At the end of the evening, as we were walking out we saw the casserole on another table. That one was also untouched. Bottom line: decent restaurant maybe, but stay away from the vegetarian casserole.

Maria’s Taverna on 4th in Kits is good for desserts too. Yes Greek eateries are commonly associated with Lamb dishes and other meat dishes like moussaka but Greek cuisine offers great desserts as well. Having had a main meal, I fancied a Greek dessert and popped in for a bougatsa at Maria’s. It was perhaps a bit dry but certainly nice. It is priced at 6:95$ and is a good offering to end the night. Not too sweet. Posted by S Fuller .

Loved this place!!! As you walk in, the authenticity of the restaurant makes you feel happy. The staff are so lovely and patient with all our questions. The lady helped us with our order perfectly. The food? It was amaaaazing! I, personally, did not like my grilled calamari (which was my choice). But, the rest of the food was super yummy. The shoulder was throughly marinated.

2/25/2021 I would never order from them again. I ordered delivery they buzzed me to come down to receive my order. My food was left unattended on a bench in the lobby where people sit on. The driver must have got in the building and was too lazy to safely hand on the food. Disgusting!

I returned to Maria's Taverna after a gap of 15 years and had a pleasant experience. This neighborhood restaurant has maintained its charm and welcoming atmosphere. I went there with a business colleague, and we had a relaxing lunch. The patio door open, allowing a gentle breeze to flow through the dining area on a hot summer day. The staff were friendly and attentive. For my meal, I opted for the Spanakopita dinner platter. The dish was decent, featuring the classic Greek flavours I remembered. However, it leaned heavily on carbs, with a generous serving of rice and roast potatoes accompanying the Spanakopita. I would have preferred some hummus to go with the greek salad. The food was good, it wasn't particularly outstanding or memorable, but it did meet my expectations for a neighborhood Greek restaurant. It's was great for a casual meal and worth a visit if you're in the area.

Walking along west 4th looking for lunch I see Maria’s across the street and say to my wife I could really go for avagolemono soup and spanicopita,so we went in and saw a nice cozy taverna. I really felt we were in the right place ,and wasn’t disappointed.our attentive waiter brought our order piping hot and everything was spot on ,toasty pita, garlicky tzatziki and delicious spanakopita and soup.exactly what I wanted.also I eyed the pizza at other table that looked fabulous.

Decided to try this place on West 4th across from the Safeway. Very sincere customer service with a warm greeting and exit. Very prompt with menu, taking our orders and delivering the food. Plus, asked how the food was and showed up with the bill on a timely basis. We had an appie and two entrées and we both loved our dishes. Great portion sizes as well. Prices are not low. Wine by the glass prices are a very good deal and some selection. Overall, a great Greek meal complemented by service.

Such great food in the small restaurant in Kitsilano area. They are licensed, have a big menu of Greek food and pizza. Busy , moderately priced restaurant. We had good service and the food was excellent. We had excellent moussaka and souflaki. Moderately priced and would love to go back to try the pizza.

We line this Greek restaurant in Kitsilano. Big menu and moderate prices. They serve wine and alcohol. Casual service . Loved the dinner. We went early at 6 and by 7 it was full. Entered parking on the street ( 4th avenue).

Kitsilano
Kitsilano is one of Vancouver's most transformative neighbourhoods. With a long history of coffee culture and poetry readings, its days of flower children and buskers may be long-gone, but not without leaving their mark on the number of organic restaurants and fair-trade cafes in the area. At the centre of Kitsilano ("Kits" for short) the almost idyllic expanse of Kits Beach offers the opportunity for a relaxed afternoon of beach volleyball or sunbathing. Along with the beachfront, nearby public pools and trendy street-beats have driven up the homeowners prices, making it a haven for stylish home goods stores, from design and furniture, to supplies and appliances. The multitude of both families and public spaces also make it a happening neighbourhood in the summer, when festivals and fairs take to Kits' streets.
