Love this old school Commercial Drive venue. It's been around since 1984, for reasons that are obvious once you've eaten here. Great insalata and pasta, and forget about the character and great wine lists. Loads of ambience and great for people watching. Will revisit.

We did not have reservations (a good suggestion for a weekend) but on a Saturday night they made a special accommodation for our party of four....at 5:30 the room was empty, but by 6 it was totally full. We agreed with the captain waiter to be finished by 8...a very good request on their part and agreed to by us... More

I am Italian and I was very surprised by the quality of pasta (I highly recommend pasta primavera). The restaurant was very nice and typical Italian style, the waiter very friendly and the prices average. A plate of pasta was $ 15-19.I will go back

This restaurant has been here for years and is well worth the trip to "The Drive" (Commercial Drive in East Vancouver for travelers...) We decided to celebrate my birthday at Arriva last night and brought another couple to join us. We have been here numerous times and each time meets or exceeds our expectations. First off, the focaccia is a... More

We've been coming here for many years, and it is as consistent as the first time we went, probably 25 years ago. Good caesar salads, great pastas, great veal Milanese, nice fish, and a very good wine list (not crazy expensive, just good choices). The service is also excellent. Owner Paulo and his sons and some longtime veteran waiters make... More

Visited this restaurant on the referral of a business located on the same street. We were greeted by the owner & shown the type of personal service rarely seen in restaurants today. From the moment we sat down to the moment we left, the experience was truly unforgettable. The food was a type of culinary experience that causes you to... More

Very good meal, nice atmosphere, attentive service, reasonable prices. The service was perhaps too attentive. A minor thing, but it would be good if they timed interruptions when appropriate, especially during business meetings.

This place is a staple on The Drive. It's been there since the entire area was dedicated to Italian restaurants and has withstood the test of time; as have the servers, some of whom have been there since day one. The decor hasn't changed much over the years but the Tuscan theme is comforting and the restaurant is always clean... More

Staying in Commercial Drive

Neighbourhood Profile
Commercial Drive
Commercial Drive, also called "The Drive," comprises of twelve sauntering blocks of modest and unfussy counter-culture. Straddling the line between sophisticated and unadorned, it is favoured by students, artists, writers, designers, and start-ups, and suffused throughout with a healthy off-beat counter-culture. The kind of neighbourhood which well-springs thought-revolutions and has the odd bit of self-aware graffiti, Commercial Drive has resisted gentrification in favor of continuing to build a thriving den of affordable multiculturalism. Once known as Vancouver's "Little Italy," it has also been the immigration point for Guatemalans, Hondurans, and Portuguese to the city. The resulting hodgepodge makes for poetry readings in espresso cafes, social debates in early-open bakeries, and eco-activism posters pinned up in the many multi-ethnic markets in the area. Commercial Drive is where you go to feel like a local, and if you have them, bring the kids – The Drive has a number of bookshops, toy stores, and attractions to get them involved too.
