My husband, 13 yo daughter and I were seeking a good meal on our last night in Canada - we were returning to Australia the next day. Internet research led us to Takis Taverna, a 15 minute walk from our accommodation, which was near the ferry to Granville Island. My husband was initially reticent to go to Takis as he thought it sounded too cheap. When we arrived we were delighted to find a cosy, blue and white Mediterranean themed space hosted by Greek owners. The waitress was excellent, finding out our daughter’s drink preferences and suggesting a perfect option for her. The waitress’s recommendations on the quantity that would suit us was perfect, and we enjoyed a selection of dips, very tasty bread, seafood and succulent lamb. Takis Taverna was a delightful spot, with warm ambience, to celeb the end of our Canadian holiday - and very reasonably priced.

During this difficult COVID time, we have missed being able to eat out. On a rainy Friday night, we chose Takis as one of our first dine in experiences. It didn't disappoint! In fact, as every meal I have ever had here, it has been consistently yummy. While it is typical Vancouver Greek fare, it is delicious. Chicken souvlaki moist and perfectly charred, Lamb souvlaki also juicy and tender. Tzatziki, hummus, pita were also 5 stars. The potatoes were a bit lack lustre - slightly under cooked and not enough lemon, too watery.
Service was excellent and the wait staff attentive and kind.
Thank you for a lovely re-entry into indoor dining!
PS - I have been going to this restaurant for almost 30 years. Same great menu!

My husband and I don't eat out that often due to Covid, or even order in. This past weekend we decided to have Greek food. We were very much looking forward to it. We ordered the platter for two. When we opened the containers we were quite disappointed as the chicken souvlaki was burnt and the container of salad was not full.
I immediately called the restaurant and spoke to the manager. He said he would send a driver with another salad, chicken souvlaki, and he threw in a spanakopita.
The food was delicious, and the portions were a good size. We will definitely order from Takis again.

We had 3 meals to share ,Greek salad ,eggplan puree and spinach cake. The spinash cake was fresh and good, very crispy. The salad they put grind feta on it ??? It does not sous fresh and you do not expect that?? Everywhere in world it comes in a block lawyer but here groundered ?? No good ,no good at all .the eggplant puree had marks of a plastic content like it was stored for days.It was not fresh and look like dog food???
On top , the place is not clean ,carpets here and there on the premesis to hide what ?
It is ordinary ,so ordinary .
Hope they take my comments to change things.

I am not one to write reviews as I'm pretty easy going with my food especially during covid when businesses are struggling but I had to share my experience...here it goes. It has been a couple years since we've been to this restaurant and it was a main staple for us for many years so you can imagine our disappointment when we ordered Greek staples calamari and roast lamb. The calamari was overcooked and rubbery. We sent it back and it was the same including missing flavour. The lamb was mostly bone and came with a beige/grey gravy. The rice was also flavorless. It was all missing spices and flavour.
They were very apologetic and brought us ozo and we appreciated that but I did not want a shooter I wanted a tasty dinner. It did not make up for our very disappointing meal that we still paid full price for!!!
If you decide to go I hope your meal has all the traditional and amazing flavours found in greek food.
Good luck

My friend and I were first time diners at the restaurant. Unfortunately the experience was far from positive. Asking the server if the Spanakopita was made with filo pastry, the server did not know. My friend's salad arrived before his soup and when I enquired about the soup, I was told it was on its way, which arrived at the same time as the entree. The soup was barely warm. My friend had the dolmades, which is a traditional Greek delight but these were immersed in a béchamel sauce which made them very soggy; my friend did not eat them. When asked if he wanted to take the uneaten dish home, my friend replied in the negative, no he did not. I had the chicken souvlaki and I found it dry and overcooked; I have had better elsewhere. The service was slow and the dirty dishes lingered on our table for quite a while after we had finished before they were removed. There were only a few customers on the night we went and it was at dinner time.

Our tried and true Greek restaurant sadly closed during the pandemic. A special request from a family member for some Mediterranean cuisine. There seems to be a lack of consistency here with Greek restaurants. I read about a dozen reviews and narrowed the choices to 2. I chose Taki's as to try a new place and give them a try.
I arrived inside and placed an order of 2 roast lambs, a large beef souvlaki and a calamari dinner to go. I was asked to come back in 20-30 minutes. Being midweek, only 2 tables were occupied inside. I expect 90% of their orders are for delivery or pick up.
I ordered extra tzatziki. I usually run out from the small dollop given out. I love tzatziki!
4 meals taken away and enjoyed at a park over looking people walking their dogs and boats sailing by was the ideal spot. Upon opening the 2 bags, my family and I was amazed at the amount of food. It should have been a sign the bags were heavy. The food smelled and looked fantastic. We dug into the calamari. Perfectly fried and the batter was seasoned well. The accompanying rice, carrots, potatoes and pita were also excellent.
Next we dug into the lamb and beef. Totally fantastic. Fork tender, well marinated and big. After stuffing ourselves we hobbled to our car.
Overall the food was very, very good. This will be our Greek go-to joint moving forward.
Definitely a great option.

We finally had a chance to get together as a family in Vancouver, and Takis Taverna was a great place for us the food , and the service was fantastic. We started with the keftedakia "taki's fater's meatballs " the only thing I can say is "Opa". This restaurant will be our go to while visiting Vancouver .

I ordered a lamb shank to go. I love lamb meat so I often order it when I find it in a menu.
I had to wait about 25 minutes although the restaurant was empty.
I opened the box just about 10 minutes after I left the restaurant, the lamb shank and baked potatoes and carrots were cold already.
Not only that, the lamb was dry and the sauce was a simple tomato sauce that did not really go well with the lamb shank in my opinion.
I haven't tried any other dishes there but this experience would not help me going back there again....

I used to be a fan of Taki's, frequently dining there when I lived and worked in the area. It was a standout spot in the West End, far surpassing Stepho's in both food quality and service. So, it pains me to report that my recent visit has left me quite disappointed.
I brought friends from out of town to Taki's for lunch, expecting to showcase a beloved local spot. But as we walked in at 12:30 on a Thursday to find the place nearly empty, it was clear that something had changed. This should have been the first red flag.
The service was disappointingly slow, and the server's lack of friendliness didn't help. The menus were sticky, and the overall ambiance of the restaurant felt tired and in need of a refresh. Our simple lunch orders took about 45 minutes to arrive, which was surprising given the lack of patrons. Meanwhile, takeout orders seemed to be prioritized over in-house customers, which was frustrating.
When the food finally arrived, it was underwhelming. The potatoes were notably undercooked, while the vegetables were overdone. It was a stark contrast to the high standards I once associated with Taki's.
It's truly sad to witness such a beloved neighborhood spot fall so far from its former glory. Unfortunately, I won't be returning anytime soon.

One of the most authentic Greek restaurants in town. Reminds me of my time in Greece. The grilled calamari are absolutely fantastic. Also, hardly any restaurants in Vancouver serve that, all have just the deep fried stuff.

We used Takis' "catering" service. They prepared food based on our selections for 10 people, packaged it and we picked it up. Normally they can apparently deliver but because it was 1 January, they were a bit short-staffed, and could not deliver. This was not a problem as we live near by.
The service during pick up and the food were both excellent. The Athenian chicken was a standout dish for me, but all of the food was delicious. We enjoyed hummus, baba ganoush, Tzatziki with pitas and calamari as starters followed by the chicken, prawns, lamb, potatoes and carrots for the mains. Excellent all around.

This restaurant is not Greek-owned anymore. I ordered the entree, then waited a very long time for it. Server has no communication skills. The meal was sub-standard, improperly cooked; satziki smelled like the inside of a dirty fridge. Server never returned to check on me. I got up and walked back to the kitchen area to pay my bill. Server was making drinks at the bar. She never acknowledged me at all. Zombie?I will not be returning here.

Went here today for lunch . Walked in and because there were no customers I had to ask the waiter if they were open . He came from the back and seemed to be annoyed we were there. Grumbled that he needed our vaccine certificate. Fine no problem. No welcome no smile or even a thank you. He sat us went to the back and seemed to not care that we sat there. No menus no greeting, no NOTHING. This is probably why you have NO CUSTOMERS. went to a Greek restaurant next door and it was completely opposite. Warm greeting, great service excellent price . Will definitely go back . Takis Taverna .. you better learn from your competition or get rid of this waiter that seems to hate customers

If you like great tasting Greek food at a reasonable price, this is the place to visit. Friendly and welcoming service. We had the moussaka and chicken souvlakia. Both were large portions with rice and potato, salad and vegetables. Both dishes were delicious but too big for us to finish. So we boxed them up and had them the following day at home - just as nice then!

Davie Village
Davie Village is the vital LGBTQ heart of Vancouver. It is the only like area in the world to have a permanent four-way rainbow crosswalk, to symbolise the city's solidarity with many of the businesses, ranging from bars to bookstores, that keep the area vibrant. By day, it is a people-watching stop, with fantastic boutique cafes, but at night is when it really shines, humming with neon lights and nightclub music inside many of the hip and trendy bars and dance halls. The area is diverse and welcoming, and its supportive community makes for a tight-knit group of independent and creative shops.
