Sensational Experience- Reasonable Rates

Stopped in on a Monday evening without reservations and the staff was very welcoming and sat us down at a lovely table. The service was impeccable and attentive. We ordered a waldorf salad to share and two entrees to share - the Duck and Butternut Squash Risotto. The server was very generous to inform us that it was a fair amount of food and we may want to order the side order of Risotto instead. Which we did and along with it ordered some fries. The food was delivered split two ways so we did not have to ask for serving spoons etc. The entire meal along with a glass of wine was very reasonably priced and was absolutely delicious. The ambiance is wonderful in the restaurant. Overall a 5 star experience. Because of the server's honesty and attention to detail at the restaurant, I'll be going back there again very soon.

Excellent experience, as always!

My partner and I have been coming here nearly every weekend for the past 5 years or so. We have never had a bad experience. Any time we have a special food or drink request, or are simply feeling indecisive, we are always blown away with the result. We have virtually never waited to be sat, and the entire staff is always highly accommodating to us. This was one of the first places we came to together as a couple when we started to explore fine dining, and it is always a fabulous time. They always have live piano music on the weekends and even some weekdays, usually performed by the highly talented Sean Allen. We have developed a relationship with much of the staff, including our favourite lounge server Elana, and it is one of the highlights of our weekly Date Night. Very highly recommend giving this place a try! Whether for a full evening dining experience, or just some cocktails in the lounge. 10/10!

A special place.

Bacchus has been my favourite restaurant in Vancouver for years, but last night we had the “Dine Out Vancouver” option, which takes place every winter, and costs $45/ person excluding drinks, tip and taxes. I was expecting such a deal to deliver a scaled-down version of their usual, excellent cuisine. But each of the three courses was exquisite. And, as usual, the service was polished and discreet. Bacchus continues to be my favourite restaurant in Vancouver.

One of the worst places I ever ate

The only reason I give it one star is the staff and service is amazing. I ate at the hotel 4 times giving it 4 chances. I had the cob salad with was a soggy wet mess and lettuce was rusty. Second we ordered in room.breakfadt I had steel cut oats, hubby had Egss Benny. The oats were the consistancy of over boiled , tasteless skop! Hubs eggs Benny had a thick cut of dried ham,hard boiled egg with no runny yolk and the holidays was tasteless.the next evening we ordered room service, I ordered the burger, I am sure it was microwaved it was so dry, no flavor and the cheese was a melted clear mess and my fries looked like McCain super thin cut and were burnt! Theubdo not have a good room service menu.The next day we went down for lunch and I had the cheif special,linguine with scallops,tomatoes and greens.there was no flavor, the scallops were tiny,overcooked rubber balls, the greens were so overcooked they were a wilted glob on the plate and I sent it back. My husband had the steak Oscar medium rare, it actually tasted like fishy dog food and the steak was so raw it was more blue rare and bleeding all over the plate. The sourdough rolls previous to lunch were hard, dried out and tasted stale. I was shocked as other reviews were good and the food does not match the rest of the establishment. We ordered dessert to the room on our last night and it WAS TO DIE FOR DELICIOUS but it's hard to mess up desert.If we stayed again we would NOT eat at the hotel.

Best Choice For Fine Dining in Vancouver!

We have been to Bacchus Restaurant and Lounge previously and really enjoyed ourselves. On this occasion we were on a date night in Vancouver and we wanted a spectacular restaurant to celebrate the occasion. We were concerned because Friday was the start of Dine Out Vancouver and we did not want to be limited to that menu. We were assured when we made the reservation that the regular menu was also available. Upon arrival at the Wedgewood Hotel we were promptly seated in the Bacchus Dining room in the Library. We were greeted by Scott, our server, and he informed us that this area was the Library and that it had formerly been the Cigar Room. Scott got us started with some beverages and our Bacchus experience began. There was a piano player in the lounge. I had read from other TA reviews that the piano music was too loud and thus a conversation was not possible. This was not the case at our table in the Library. We could converse quietly and still enjoy the piano music. Some Amuse Bouches arrived while we were enjoying our cocktails. Scott gave us excellent service all evening and he is clearly a professional at his trade. My wife started with the Waldorf Salad which was a melange of different flavours. She loved it. I started with the Fennel, Carrot and Kale salad which was spectacular. We ordered a bottle of Beaujolais Village and took a break before ordering our mains. Scott demonstrated his server abilities. He was there when we needed him and absent when we didn't. We really appreciated his service. My wife had the chicken duo special and it was delicious. I had the duck duo with assorted vegetables. Fantastic! A coffee with Baileys and an Ice Wine topped off an exceptional dining experience. Thank you Scott for a great evening.

Unbelievable-in a good way

Having never eaten here we had tickets as part of the Vancouver International Wine Festival for their L’Instant Taittinger event. Being fans of Champagne we were not disappointed by the fine wines generously poured. What we did not envision was the superb service and food pairings. From the reception through the 5 courses and petit fours absolutely nothing disappointed. We will definitely make a trip here for a special occasion. Worth every penny.

Fun and relaxing venue to meet friends

We are long time friends who meet monthly to catch up on our lives. We always enjoy Bacchus where we are treated royally and pampered with excellent service and food. Afternoon high tea is back!

We have eaten at Bacchus many times over the last 30 years in its various incarnations but have never done the formal high tea. This has recently been reintroduced (Saturday and Sunday only at this time) so we tried it out today with 2 other couples. Infection control practices were careful and adhered to (odd that this is now part of reviews but that's the reality). Ambience and service were superb as always (only problem being the massive traffic tie up due to construction on Hornby St). The offered sandwiches, savouries and sweets, and desserts were all high quality and fresh. The tea selection was good and there were options for champagne if desired (we passed). At $65 pp this is not a cheap grab and go but a more substantial and restful experience; we all commented afterwards that it was highly enjoyable and worth the price.

Perfect Night Away - Restaurant Review

We checked into the hotel on Saturday mid-afternoon and left Sunday mid-afternoon after we had lunch. We chose to dine here for all of our meals while staying the night at the hotel. Bacchaus Restaurant and Lounge: Lounge meal after checking in: we enjoyed a lovely snack to get us through to dinner. The truffle fries were crunchy and not overly seasoned with the truffle. The wine pairing with the cheese was excellently paired - I loved it. Service was friendly and welcoming. Dinner: The atmosphere in the restaurant is classic, romantic and cozy. There was a pianist, he played a good selection of classical, musical and current music and added to atmosphere. Our meals were excellent. I had the oysters to start, duck for my main and Toffee pudding cake for dessert. It was all so delicious. My husband’s meal look amazing too, Corn and Spot Prawn soup, Tenderloin and in house made sorbet of Strawberries, Blueberries and Raspberries. Our service was excellent. Breakfast was very good and service was excellent. My husband had the Bacchaus Breakfast, classic American breakfast and I had the avocado toast. Lunch: Our last meal was a great way to end out stay. I had the hand peeled shrimp club with a Caesar salad and my husband had the burger, again both dishes were excellent. Lunch service was consistent like every other meal, our server friendly and she (remember me coming for breakfast three weeks before, that was very nice of her to recognize me.) We thoroughly enjoyed all of our meals here and would recommend anyone staying at the hotel (or not staying) trying to dine here for all your meals.

A very fine dining restaurant.

We loved the lounge and restaurant. The wait staff were attentive, accommodating and very service oriented. We ate breakfast and had drinks in the lounge and it was extraordinarily comfortable. At times the piano music from the restaurant serenaded us delightfully. The restaurant’s food was exceptionally well prepared from a very good selection of fine food offerings. A dozen oysters for $50+ was a bit rich but they were wonderful! The berry vinegar dip with them is not to be missed. A nice selection of wines on offer.

Christmas at Bacchus

We live in North Vancouver but because of the COVID-19 restrictions we could not see our kids and grandkids for Christmas dinner. We decided to stay at the wonderful Wedgewood Hotel in downtown Vancouver and eat Christmas dinner at Bacchus. While it was quite expensive the food and service were superb. I also had the wine pairing which suited the courses perfectly. We had a great table in the corner and never felt vulnerable either from the service staff or the other customers. Bacchus has done a great job with plexiglass screens separating the tables.

Sophistication with a feel at home attitude!

Just like the Hotel this restaurant gets Five Stars for its amazing service and accommodating staff. During our hotel stay we did not miss a day at the restaurant. Whether it be a romantic night time dinner, morning breakfast, afternoon snack or an evening night cap this restaurant mastered the right ambiance, service and food for whatever the occasion. Late afternoons and evenings had a variety of live music to set the right atmosphere and make your dining experience special. The food was impeccably prepared and the presentation was flawless. Unlike many other restaurants you can actually have a conversation without being drowned out by the cacophony of noises in the hard surface echo chambers of many of today's restaurants. We dined all over Vancouver but found Bacchus to be the place that checked all the right boxes!

Unreservedly highly recommended for special occasions!

Absolutely delicious meals for both my wife and I. Served perfectly over a total,of 1 1/2 hours. Some restaurants leave large time gaps between courses. This was the right amount; for us anyway! The server was attentive with the occasional check in without being intrusive. The live piano music added to the already easy atmosphere. An overall excellent evening. Could not ask for more unless, after the dining experience, they comped us a new Mercedes…!

We ordered room service in the morning. I expected a beautiful selection because the menu said $40 for “Full American” but I also wanted some fruit so I added in the “WedgeWood Continental” for another $32 so $72 plus 18% gratuity and $6 delivery. So we paid $100 for the worst breakfast of my life. The sausage was complete Raw. The coffee was somehow cold. The display of “fresh pastries” was embarrassing. A burnt croissant and a dry muffin is not worth anything near what they are charging.

Hidden Gem. Always 5-star - strangely a little bit ‘under the radar’.

Started coming to this outstanding restaurant in the boutique Wedgewood Hotel back in the early 1990’s when I first lived in Vancouver. Still going there regularly 30 years later even though much of that time I lived elsewhere in North America and Europe (and now again in Vanvouver). Always a classy spot with outstanding personal service, attention to detail and a 5-star kitchen. Downtown, across from the law courts - people watching not to be matched elsewhere in the lower mainland. Don’t miss it!!
