While walking around Kitsilano, we stopped at Café Zen for a quick lunch. We had the baked veggie bagel melt and the strawberry/banana crepe. The crepe was fine but the bagel was not very tasty. Nice terrace on a quiet street, reasonable prices.
During my visit I decided to meet Harry at Cafe Zen. We have not seen each other in over 25 years. I had the French Toasts and he chose Eggs Benedict. No disappointment there. Service was friendly and professional. She recognized Harry from a past...visit long ago. Will return on my next trip, for sure!More
Never disappoints! Old fashioned eggs, toast, waffles, pancakes, juice and coffee. Does not pretend to be anything but a place with a good breakfast. Favoured by locals and visitors alike.
Went to zen cafe after walk along kitsilano beach. Great place to warm up with hot coffee and friendly service.
My wife & I found Cafe Zen by chance on a sunny Sunday morning. We both had eggs benny for brunch. Very impressed with the quality of the food & service. Cafe decor and decoration very colorful and bright. Will definitely visit Cafe Zen again...in the near future. Have no hesitaion in recommending it for Breakfast/BrunchMore
This place USED to be among the very best breakfast joints in the city . But the last few times I've come either the food or forgetful service ruined a simple meal . Yesterday we had a brunch for two . Service was pleasantly fast...pleasant and efficient . It was the kitchen staff who let down the front end staff during our visit . We ordered Eggs Benny , a side of pancakes and bacon . The pancake side was first to arrive along with a cold side of bacon . Benny came up next with cold potatoes . Timing and rhythm is everything from kitchens especially with eggs & breakfasts. We were simply let down and a complete lack of caring or dedication to deliver the advertised menu items were obvious . It ain't brain surgery !! With other fantastic breakfast and brunch options just blocks away Is advise the owners of this tired old brand to either pull up their socks or sell and close er up . I will not be returning any time soon .More
I remember this place opening over 3 decades ago when living in Vancouver but never visited. This time my host took me there and it was very enjoyable. My eggs were done just the way I like them. Most places can't get them right ie...over medium but not too runny. The place was very busy on Saturday morning and I returned with a friend the following Tuesday. It wasn't busy and most enjoyable as well. Service on both mornings were very attentive.More
Our friend who lives in Vancouver found this place for a Sunday morning breakfast. . We got there about 9:00, the place was sort of busy, but when we left there were at least 20 people waiting to get in. The exterior doesn’t give a...clue to how adorable it is inside. The food was absolutely amazing. Everything we had was delicious. Omelets, eggs over easy (cooked perfectly) and French toast...all good choices!!! Highly recommend!!!More
We live nearby and had a breakfast there a couple of times. Very cozy place with comfort food and very friendly staff.
My friend and I visited Cafe Zen on a Wednesday early afternoon (today). I arrived earlier and then my friend arrived. I knew I wasn't hungry because I'd had a late lunch but my friend was undecided when she arrived. She ended up also deciding...not to have any food at the end and we ordered a Mocha and a Latte. There was literally only one other table that was occupied so the place was far from being busy and there was no good reason for the waitress' attitude. We weren't occupying a coveted table or anything. Regardless, being a "good" Canadian, I apologized and going on with our reasons for not ordering food as I realized the waitress had the most unwelcoming stare and she wasn't even listening. Then she turned her back with no comment whatsoever. My friend and I were both shocked at the rudeness. I will definitely NOT go back. The Kits area is full of servers (maybe she was the owner, I don't know) who are more than happy to provide good friendly service. Your loss, Cafe Zen.More
Nice place for breakfast. Have not been for many years but still good as we remembered. Do try it out one weekend
Eggs Bennie are served with very strange hollandaise sauce, watery and tasteless. Likely, the sauce is made of instant powder, mixed into a sauce. Eggs were not properly cooked, whites were watery yet the yolks were hard. Potatoes were out of a bag, ok if...you don't mind that sort of thing I guess. We will not be back.More
A cozy atmosphere with servers knowing their repeat customers. Serving sizes are large and food variety is typical western. Nothing extraordinary, but very busy for a Sunday morning.
We walked along the water and then up the hill on Yew St to find this little cafe. If you are walking up the hill, look out for the hanging spider 🕷. My husband had a great omelette with home fries. I had oatmeal with...fresh strawberries and bananas on the side-really hit the spot!! The coffee was strong as well! Friendly staff too!More
