OPEN FOR LUNCH ONLY NOV 28th DEC 29th Our story began in Strasbourg, France where Chef/Owner Michel Jacob was born. As a young apprentice under Chef J.Letzer of Zimmer, Michel and his fellow chefs were often taken to restaurants for firsthand experience of the local dining scene. One day, Chef Letzer took the entire brigade to Restaurant Au Crocodile. The chefs were served a meal “like nothing they had ever seen or tasted before”. It was at that meal that Michel Jacob set the standards for his own culinary path. Chef E.Jung became his ‘inspirational culinary mentor’. In 1984, Chef Michel opened Le Crocodile in Vancouver. We had a wonderful evening at Le Crocodile. From the moment we entered and were greatly very warmly until we left we were treated so kindly by all the staff. It is so nice to be in a restaurant where you can feel the warmth...and genuine interest of the staff. It is a beautiful room with a lovely old world charm and elegance. The tables are beautifully set with tablecloths and fine china. The gentleman who poured our water was so kind and warm. Our server was Holly and she took very good care of us during the course of the evening. The sommelier is one of the best that we’ve encountered. When we were deciding between 2 wines she made a suggestion and said that one of the wines had received a very good review from a local wine critic. It was an excellent recommendation. I think her name was Donna. It was her last day at Le Crocodile as she was just filling in for the regular sommelier who was taking some time off. A basket of bread was brought to the table. We shared the bone marrow as an appetizer. It was delicious and was served with a small salad that was very fresh, tomato fondant and toast. Although it was very good it is unlikely that we would order this appetizer again as there is really very little marrow and we did not feel this dish was value for the money. Shoestring potatoes were brought to the table with our entrees. For entrees my husband had the rack of lamb with mint jus. The kitchen omitted Dijon mustard at my husband’s request. Although he enjoyed his meal he said that he found it too rich for his liking. It was his mistake however because he does not like mint sauce and the lamb was served with mint jus. I had the tiger prawns with angel hair pasta and lobster veloute and it was fabulous. The tiger prawns were perfectly cooked and the lobster veloute was amazing with the pasta. I ate the whole thing. So good. Before dessert we were given a lovely sorbet with liquer as a palate cleanser. We shared our favorite dessert – Grande Marnier soufflé. Perfection. It was finished tableside with the addition of crème Anglaise. It is a pricey evening. The wine list especially has a very substantial mark ups. There is a parkade beside the restaurant that has a good flat fee rate if you park after 6:00. We would highly recommend and will returnMore

Hands down, one of the most superb meals I've ever had. The room was lively but not overbearing. Our server was sophisticated but not at all snooty, responsive but not intrusive. And the food -- oh my. Our halibut and tiger prawns were cooked to...perfection. My profiteroles were excellent (chocolate poured over them at the table!) and our lemon meringue tarte just was the best. I felt I was in Paris. Only this was better than some meals I have had in Paris. Don't hesitate to book here and I hope we'll be able to again soon.More

Le Crocodile was recommended to us by a trusted friend who knew that my time in Vancouver was rather limited and that, for this reason alone, I had no time to experiment and test the culinary waters of the city. So he recommended the very...best. And I was not disappointed. The place exudes style and warmth, is managed by ever-attentive and tireless managers and staff and is led by a chef patron whose pursuit of excellence is apparent in every dish presented. I live in Europe, on the other side of the world, which boasts of several eateries of the highest quality. I have however promised myself and my friends a return to this restaurant someday soon as it is truly outstanding. A special thanks to Tim who took care of us throughout dinner and whose friendliness and knowledge of the menu was impressive.More

Finding a restaurant with good food is fairly easy. To find a restaurant that has the combination of excellent food served by an amazing wait staff is like finding a rare gem. Le Crocodile is a perfect diamond. From the moment we were seated, our...server Nina was extremely friendly and attentive, soon followed by Sara who recited the fabulous array of specials for the evening. Von Damme, the fantastic sommelier was the icing on the cake having assisted us in choosing an excellent wine, domaine Pellé, from the Loire Valley. Afterwards, she suggested some excellent after dinner drinks as well. The food, I would describe as top quality French cuisine, perfectly prepared and presented. The atmosphere of Le Crocodile being warm and inviting added to the experience. As true world travelers who sample the best places frequently, Chef/owner Michel Jacob has created one of our favorite restaurants. Thank you for an excellent experience.More

1. We waited approx 30 for our 8 pm reservation. Why have reservations if they are not honoured in a timely fashion. 2 The noise level was like we were sitting in the kitchen. Could not hear our conversations across the table nor could we...hear the specials the server verbally told us. Just give us a printout of the specials on a paper or on an iPad. 3. We ordered still water and bubbly and asked for the water to be left on the table as it was a very hot day. It wasn’t and the server was inattentive when our water glasses were empty. So we self served. 4. We ordered wine .Then, we were moved to a quieter area of the restaurant with a different server. When the wine came, I said to the server that it was this bottle was not the one we ordered. The server still poured the wine into the wine carafe. I asked if I could see the bottle. Sure enough, we were given a different bottle than the one we ordered. 5. When the server approached our table she always interrupted our conversation rather than waiting for a pause to ask her question(s) 6. The meal arrived which was tasty! Whew! 7. Then there was a mixup with the desserts. One order was incorrect and one couple had to wait 20 minutes for their dessert. Sadly, it was the newly engaged couple and the reason why we were out for this dinner. So, 1/7 for a high end restaurant. I am so disappointed! I hope management will try to address these issues so that this once great restaurant can regain our attendance. In the meantime, we will go elsewhere.More

We chose this restaurant to celebrate our son's graduation. We were not disappointed. A party of five, we all had appetizers ranging from escargot to vichyssoise (divine!) to bone marrow, though with with three bones the latter was really too large for one person--especially when...he had ordered a 16-oz steak to follow! Daughter and I had lobster which was fabulous, so nice to have it shelled! Two others had steak which they declared fabulous and the fifth had lamb. Service was attentive and well timed, especially the sommelier. I love a restaurant that has lots of specials based on seasonal produce! Unfortunately we were too full for dessert. Quite reasonably priced for the quality--worked out to about C$170 per head including cocktails, wine, two courses and a generous tip.More

We had heard good things and ventured in for a light dinner. We share two appetizers and one main course. The food was outstanding. The lobster bisque and escargot were perfectly prepared. We ordered the chicken and risotto for the main and it was more...than shareable between two people as the sauce and risotto were rich and delicious. What separates the restaurant is the attention to detail, sorbet, fresh bread, excellent service and a wonderful staff. We had high expectations, but they were exceeded! I would strongly recommend.More

The restaurant has lost its way. Even though we arrived on time, we were told to wait for 30 minutes. No offer of a drink. The food was very disappointing compared to previous visits. Stodgy accompaniments with the lamb. The sauce had a funny taste....This has become an expensive restaurant that lives on its past record.More

If they have seared foie gras, go for it. I had the delicious scallops with black ink pasta. Anything is good and if you don't like it, they will fix it!
