Place is very basic, no real decor or style to it. Loved the fact they were playing 90s hiphop in the background. Food was simple, fresh and very very tasty. Service could be faster.

I have been to a couple if the GUU establishments in Vancouver. This one is my favourite, maybe because it was my first. It is loud and bustling and the seats are not overly comfortable but all that goes away once you sit down and start your dining journey. (If you have a crowd larger than 4 you may be... More

Went in early for a quick early lunch(11:45) so I got there before the rush. I sat at the bar by the kitchen and enjoyed watching the chefs prepare the food right in front of me. It is a small restaurant but they make the most of the space. The service was great! The great you when you walk in... More

This place was bustling and tough to fit into, but we wanted to try it because it was supposed to be an authentic Japanese dining experience. Expect a wait to get a table though. Their entire staff greeted us in Japanese with huge smiles and were extremely attentive and patient with us, as we had no clue what we were... More

Food was pretty good but the place is small. We went there on a Saturday at 9PM still had to wait 45 minutes.

We stayed near this little spot on Thurlow Street, and it had some really good online reviews. So one evening when we wanted dinner close by, off we went. We joined the LINE of people waiting for the restaurant to open at 5:30 p.m. When the door opened, we were seated, and then it was time to sample several of... More

So I haven't been here in years and since this was the original Guu, I thought I would come back whew with my family for my birthday. Let's just say the food was ok at best, but the waitresses want to get you out ASAP. On top of that, when I we ordered, they gave two orders of one thing... More

Asked at reception & was told there were 70 restaurants w/I short walk ( how true!). I asked for a 'dive' (a favorite haunt) & upon finding we liked Japanese (understatement after living 3years in Tokyo), told us to try Guu. Worth the two hours of hunger pains waiting 4 them to reopen 4 dinner just 2 have the familiar... More

We had a reservation for dinner, so did not have to wait. Very lively place, good food and service . We ordered sachimi, oysters, ramen hot pot and beef salad. Everything was delicious but found the beef salad on the salty side. Nevertheless, it was a great meal.

Food is izakaya style and very authentic. There is always a line since they don't take reservations. They have a few other branches, but each serve slightly different menus.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
