Taken by my host in the city who eats here often. Am a veggie so wasnt expecting much, but really enjoyed the veggie dishes. The staff are fun & seem to love working there. It's a noisy place to eat, but that added to the atmosphere.

Hard to imagine, but true. Lots of noise. Populated by 20-somethings. Small dishes at reasonable prices $$. Eclectic menu, hardly Japanese, but imaginative. Some dishes did not work for me, but the others in my party said it was me, not the dishes. The servers yelled at each other - part of the ambience, I guess. Location on Water Street... More

We had a great time at this place. It was pretty full but we got a table right away since we agreed to be on a communal table (hesitant at first but it worked out pretty well since you get to see what kind of dishes other people order and there was no feeling of no privacy). Lots of Asians... More

The place is located in the middle of Robson street, which I suppose is an Asian district in downtown. Easy to find, but not easy to park it you have a car. Be aware of parking signs. Not a spacious place, but the food and service quality it very good. This is a real Japanese place, not a Korean/Chinese Japanese.... More

Had a great time at this place. There are different things on the menu than you can get at other Japanese places. I enjoyed the food. The waitresses yell the orders to the back and the bar. I did not experience ice on my food as a previous poster had mentioned. I would definitely go back and recommend this place... More

I really reccomend this place 100%!!.. the food was Incredible delicious, since the beggining to the end!!. In addition, the service was great!!.. and the prices are unexpensive!!.. The most funny thing was when the waiters yell something in another language, that nobody understands, but the way they say it is really funny!!.. Tip: Make a reservation or arrive early,... More

We went here with friends who are local to the area, but who were also going here for the first time at the recommendation of other friends. It was a little tricky to find, but once we did, we were set for a delicious and eclectic dinner. Be prepared for something a little different here, and be sure to try... More

I went to the Guu in Gastown, just a short walk from the Waterfront stop on the Canada line. I go to Japan fairly regularly and the flavours of the dishes we had transported me back there. I particularly enjoyed the baby octopi. Service was great and the atmosphere was casual fun. Highly recommended!

Amazing Japanese French fusion for a very inexpensive price. Other Izakaya's really don't come close.

Staying in West End

Neighbourhood Profile
West End
A hodgepodge of landscapes, the West End combines verdant gardens and blocky modern architecture, with Victorian bits and Edwardian bobs in between. It is a paradise for takeout food, take-away coffee, and perhaps incongruously, some of Vancouver's most languid lines of beachfront. English Bay and Sunset Beach invite swimmers, strollers, and picnic-lovers to take in dusk settling over the water, or to jog along with the sunrise, offering breathtaking views at any time of day. The West End merges together so many looks and flavors probably because it functions a hub: its the leafy pit-stop between nightlife and entertainment venues along Davie Street, and the shopping paradise that is Robson Street, offering visitors beautiful parkland to rest on, and quick, easy food to re-fuel with in between ventures.
