The first time I have ever enjoyed the food. the chicken wing. Usually, it's dry and gross, but was juicy and packed with flavour here. Nice atmosphere and well laid out for quarantine.services good, good food. I like it. I like to eat food while...watching the spot. A good place to stayMore

When it was announced, back in May 2018, that the Four Seasons would be closing its doors for good in January 2020, I wondered whether YEW would also go the way of the dodo. Typically, that’s how things go. Either a property is completely redeveloped...or a new tenant wants to start fresh; that is to say, any vestiges of the former occupant must be vanquished in favour of the new. But with YEW’s reputation and popularity, I thought there might be a slim chance that it would endure. Unfortunately, in late 2019, I found out that would not be the case. Both the Four Seasons and YEW will vacate 791 West Georgia Street at the end of this month. Thus, it is perhaps quite timely that I stopped by YEW for what will likely be the last time this past November. When I wrote my last review of YEW two years ago, I highlighted the fact that the restaurant had recently undergone some changes, namely in the form of a new executive chef. With that came modifications to the menu, which I’d lamented (specifically, the loss of the famous “Yew Chowder”). Thankfully, though, the general vibe remained the same, as did the overall quality of the cuisine and the impeccable service received from staff. Two years later, I’m happy to report that much of this remains the same: The atmosphere of YEW is still inviting; the seafood is beautifully presented, flawlessly executed and superb in taste; and the service is attentive without being intrusive. Indeed, I’ve always said “if it ain’t broke, don’t fix it!” In any event, on my most recent visit, I stopped in for lunch. It was somewhat late in the day (around 2PM) and so the restaurant wasn’t quite as busy as it would’ve been closer to the lunching hour. I’d intended to have their “Cape of Storms” drink, but was sad to see it’s been omitted from the “drinks” menu since my last visit (boo). For lunch, I kept things fairly light: Crab + Clam Chowder and the Seared Ling Cod. For me, the chowder was a clear highlight. In terms of flavour, it was very reminiscent of the long-gone “Yew Chowder” – creamy, rich and highlighting the natural flavours of the Pacific Northwest. Indeed, I’d like to think YEW took my earlier comments about the “Yew Chowder” and incorporated it, to some degree, in the current offering, but I think that would be giving ol’ PookyCake a little too much credit ;) As far as the ling cod goes, it was also exceptional: The exterior of the fish was lightly crisp while the interior remained flaky and flavourful. In this respect, I very much appreciate that YEW lets the flavours of the seafood speak for themselves rather than drown them in some kind of nectar. FOOD: 4/5 SERVICE: 4/5 VALUE: 4/5 RECOMMENDATION: While I am sad that the “Cape of Storms” is now gone, I suppose it doesn’t matter much anymore since this restaurant will be shuttering its doors in a few short weeks. Two years ago, I said this about YEW: “YEW is something of a rare find [in Vancouver]: they’re able to seamlessly blend exceptional customer service [. . .] and top-notch food all without being pretentious.” As such, they represent some of the best Vancouver has to offer. If you get a chance to visit this eatery before it closes, please do so because their offerings, concomitant with their customer service, are exceptional. To celebrate my husband's birthday, we were upgraded to the Wine Room. Never have we had such service nor such luxury even at the Monte Carlo Fairmont. There was no extra charge since no one had booked the $1000.00 room. The pastry chef must be...a genius. I know, the Four Seasons, Vancouver, is closing in January and we were afraid there would be a diminishment in service even as early as Aprill. No way--these are professionals. Every breakfast was lovely. Best to all you wonderful people. Why is it closing. Dopey Four Seasons franchise..More

Can't believe that this gem of a restaurant in Vancouver is closing. Try to visit Yew before it closes. Had to go for breakfast one more time before the end of an era. Excellent service and great food. All the best in what lies ahead.

With the closing of the Four Seasons, this little gem will be going away. I recommend you get in here before it does.

What a treat to experience this amazing set special thanksgiving meal and served by a great and friendly staff...thanks so much Christina! You were so kind. The food was fantastic...I had the scallops and pork belly to start and it was sublime- crispy skin pork...belly piece with bits of crackling rice and two savoury sauces ...the scallop was perfectly seared and succulent. The main was a traditional turkey dinner with all the fixings - amazing mashed potatoes. The dessert was spectacular...pumpkin crepe Brûlé with maple walnut creme glacé, a cookie and a marzipan pumpkin on top. Sad that the restaurant is closing (along with the hotel) in January. The entire restaurant staff worked like a well oiled machine...you can tell that they like working together and support each other. I hope there is some plan to keep the entire team together. It’s so hard to find good people who like what they do and like each other. It sounds like many don’t know what they will do next. I hope all works out. If I had a million I would hire them all! God bless.More

I ate here while facilitating a conference for a client. I had travelled a fair bit that day and simply wanted something to take the edge off in the evening. I was very surprised to see how empty the restaurant was. It looked beautiful when...I first walked in and only a few tables came after me. I had the chowder and the Yew Shrimp Cocktail. Bother were excellent and hit the spot. I'd definitely go again.More
