My wife and I are in our late 50s. We have eaten at Rodney's numerous occasions over the last 5 years. When flying from our home in Hong Kong to the USA, we always make it a point to visit Rodney's. We recently visited on Saturday 4 January and had excellent reception and seating service. There was a private party but a table was found for us, and we were also offered seats at the bar- which is fine if you prefer. The oyster menu changes daily and there is a good selection of other seafood available, despite what some other reviewers have written. Having eaten and cataloged 124 types of oysters from around the world, I can say that Rodney's prices are very reasonable, despite what some viewers from HK have written. In fact, you cannot find prices this low in any wetmarket in HK! I recently chose 9 varieties (20 in all) and found all to be fresh, tasty, cleanly shucked, and well presented. The wait staff was very attentive. The wine we chose is an Austrian Gruner Veltliner grape varietal, which is considered to be one of the best to drink with oysters. The price was in line with our expectations. My wife had shrimp cocktail and the calamari, and we both had clam chowder and all dishes were well done and tasty. All dishes came out at the right time. Service was professional. We found it easy to get our waitstaff's attention at all times. We were seated next to another oyster-loving couple with son and we had a very pleasant conversation with them. Table space was sufficient however to allow private conversations if preferred. Yes it can be a college-like atmosphere depending on whether you are seated near to the bar. But this is a fun oyster house, not meant to be a black tie experience. There are plenty of tables available if one does not wish to sit at the oyster bar. Reservations are recommended as Rodney's is popuar for a very good reason!

If you are looking for great seafood, great ambience and vibe and reasonably priced, look no further. They make both Boston ( white ) and Manhattan ( red tomato based ) and they are absolutely amazing and filling. Fresh shucked oysters, great cooked food, wine poured expertly to the brim without spilling a drop by excellent and friendly servers. Only problem is lack of parking ; but the location is right downtown and close to all venues. You will not be disappointed.

We had a bit of a wait (30min) which was not bad for an evening meal, however the service and oysters made up for it! We had some West coast raw oysters (my first West Coast experience) and they were delicious. For nubbies like me, they were sweeter and not as chewy as the East coast oysters. I also had their oysters Rockefeller which were amazing as well. Our waiter was very kind and attentive! It's definitely a place to try out even if your just in town for a short holiday.

I had a nice evening in Rodney's Oyster House in February. I likes the casual atmosphere; although it was a Wednesday evening, the place was pretty packed and I had to wait 15 minutes for so for a single space at the bar. Ended up with a 65 dollar bill for 12 oysters and two beer - so its certainly not a budget place to have fresh oysters. Nevertheless, there

kind of a weird night. Our server was very distracted by another table and kept chatting them up to the point of being obnoxious. We were not offered drinks when ours were empty, and when he did check in with us he was super awkward. I asked if the seafood pasta was spicy, and he said he'd ask them to make it less spicy. Didn't taste like he remembered to ask them. other than that, the oysters and pasta were good. Not much else to say. Usually love Rodney's but didn't love tonight.

I was looking forward to sample B.C. oysters, but needed a restaurant with a big enough menu to accommodate my boyfriend who isn't an oyster fan. Enter Rodney's ! We were staying near Yaletown and it popped up on trip advisor when looking for seafood in the area. We didn't book ahead, and the restaurant was quite busy (properly one of the busiest restaurant we've seen during our stay in B.C.), but the hostess found a small table near the entrance. It turned out actually perfectly, we were distanced enough from other tables to hear each other speak, (perhaps because of the pandemic, we aren't used to tables so close together anymore!), had a fresh breeze from the entrance and a nice view of the bar and the oyster. The server was very friendly as well and while I like oyster, I'm in no way an expert and he suggest a starting platter which I was pleased with. It may seem weird, but the B.C. oyster have very pretty shells compared to others and they were very "meaty"/chunky. The sauce provided were also good and could accommodate different taste/level of spiciness. Now for the food, my boyfriend had the crab cakes which were chunky, crispy and good. I indulge in the seafood pasta - it really the kind of dish you can enjoy at restaurant as preparing all the different components can be long. And this one was very good - and generous on the seafood ! - the scallops especially were nice and tender and the sauce was spicy, but not too much. The tomato based sauce was also nicely balanced (not too acidic). To conclude our meal, we were tempted with a cake we shared. All in all, a pleasant evening. We would recommend for a more "special" meal of local seafood (for oyster lovers, but also for those joining them !)

We went for the happy hour for about 4:30. We had the shrimp and lobster mini rolls which came on a delicious mini bread roll shaped like a tiny loaf of bread. Generous and delicious filling. And the east coast clam chowder that was also very tasty . The service was excellent . Casual atmosphere . Lively but not too loud. We were given a choice of up or down seating . we went up To people watch. Love this place .

We went for low tide on September 12th . There was 5 of us and we were seated upstairs. Table preset with water glasses and water. Ordered beer and wine. In the past the waiter would bring a "wine" glass and pour to the brim... it was a tradition in the past. This time he came to table with wine and poured into the small water glasses. No way that was 6 ounces! All the food including the oysters were not great. Shrimp overcooked. Mussels small, tasteless and over cooked! We had to try to flag the waiter down for bread?? The only item that was cood was the fried oysters. Very disappointing coming from Manitoba and this is always our place to come. Do not think we will be back again. We had been on the Sunshine coast at Smitty's at Gibson's and it was a totally different wonderful experience. They were outstanding in every way.

It used to be one of the most vibrant positive , historical restaurants in Vancouver. Always busy, incredible service with best oysters in town. For some reason owners must be looking to lose money and empty the place out. The oysters were terrible, the music was bad and the service was equally poor. The energy and the vibe are gone, so are the line-ups. Sad to see such a successful part of Yaletown being lost due to someone having no understanding of a loyal customer base that spends a lot and used to tell every visitor that Rodneys was a must try location. Now its a must avoid !!

We came for the oysters and left feeling absolutely fantastic about our dinner and service. We sat up at the bar where two seats opened up (the place was booming and the wait was about 45 minutes). We started off with oysters and let the bartender (Ryan) pick six. He was spot on - his choices were delicious! We then each got an entree and I went for the seafood stew which was absolutely outstanding. We then decided to get six more oysters for dessert. We spent a lot of time here because the bartenders were a lot of fun - very conversational with us. They worked hard as it was very busy and still took good care of us. Loved it. We would definitely return.

If you are under 25yrs and like loud music, chatty waiters and of-course oysters this is your place! When we arrived there was a problem finding us a table despite booking a month ago. This was resolved and we ordered the lobster slider which was good followed by the pan fried oysters less so and disappointing. We liked the atmosphere of the restaurant but really not for us! Maybe too old but restaurants should surely accommodate all age groups!

We ate at Rodney's during a small business trip. The food really was great and the service was fast and very helpful. The only criticisms I do have were the music was very loud and difficult to talk but we may have just chosen the wrong place for this type of meal. Secondly they have a very limited bar. This wasn't a high problem but our group wanted cocktails and due to this were unable. All in all I definitely would recommend Rodney's. Everything I ate was well presented and tasted amazing.

After a big day out wife wanted some sushi but I convinced her to have a special seafood meal. The atmosphere of Rodney’s looked good from outside but we found the experience very disappointing. Wife ordered a dish described on the menu as gluten free but when she checked found out it actually included bread that had gluten in it and was told to just not eat the bread. My chowder was not particularly good and only four of my oysters were good. The other two were awful. I come from Australia and am used to good oysters. We didn’t bother with the desert menu and left disappointed.

We are not big oyster eaters so the rating reflects the rest of the menu we tried. We had clam chowder (New England style) and it was really good - loaded with clams and simply delicious. We also had potato crusted halibut and it was tasty but not outstanding. Oysters Rockafella were too fishy for my taste and could have benefited from a few more seconds of baking. Overall, we had really good time as this is a happening type of a place.

Rodney’s Oyster House offered us an A+ experience. Fonda welcomed us in and seated us upstairs overlooking the oyster bar. Mackenzie, the oyster shucker, gave great recommendations and personally delivered my wife a plate of fresh and delicious oysters. Michael was our server. He was attentive, responsive, and friendly. He delivered our food piping hot and kept us supplied with beverages. I had a shrimp appetizer, lobster sliders, and delicious fries. Justin, who was in training, stopped by to check on us and charmed us with his Australian accent and kindness. All in all, the food, ambience, and service were top notch.
