The pride of Ross Bay!

A busy and lively Saturday night, we were lucky to get a table. Service quick, apparently new owners so the menu tweaked a bit...had the sliders which were tasty and filling. (Earlier menus had old UK pub standbys like shepherd pie and similar but these have gone). They were running a pub game this night - music bingo. Usually not all that keen on such but it was fun and had the whole place bouncing. Great place for a casual night out. Loads of free parking out front. Prices reasonable.

disappointing take out

Ordered a Ruben and was the worst I ever had. Next to no meat, paper thin slice of cheese, blob of dijon mustard in the middle and on marble bread...all the things not to do for this sandwich. The soup that came with it was not too good also. My wife's beef dip was not so so, the bread should be toasted a bit at least. Her salad looked good though.

Friendly staff, a decent beer selection and a cozy patio make for a great place to relax and enjoy yourself. A varied menu features a bit of everything. The daily specials are your best bet, as the kitchen seems to have a heavy hand on the regular fair, seeming to think 'a bit overcooked' is how people like it. Pulled Pork sandwich very good, but go for a salad as the fries are very greasy.

Going downhill fast

The Ross Bay Pub used to be one of our favourites, especially the potato skin appetizers. Last week I went in just after the Pub opened, and placed a take out order of potato skins - $17 plus tip so $20. The food arrived in 10-15 minutes and I left. The skins were pretty sad - the potatoes tasted "old" and they wavered between mealy to overdone. crispy and deep fried. The green onions were so old they looked dehydrated. I paid $17 for 8 small pieces them and it was the equivalent of $3 worth of food. As a side note while I was waiting, the "chef" came in and proceeded to 86 menu items they didnt have - smoked meat, soup and several other items. Too bad the other few customers had already ordered and staff was required to tell them the smoked meat "was still in the smoker" ! Come on guys - REALLY ? Did you mean in the smoker at Sysco? And a second side note - the bathroom was filthy which is not good considering you had been open for 15 minutes. I can only imagine the state of the kitchen. Now I see there is a change in management, that explains the decrease in quality. I read an article that the new owners want to class up the pub to the level of Glo. Good luck you have a long way to go, and are going downhill fast.

Not Worth A Visit

Pre-Covid, this was a good pub for the normal sort of pub fare. Unfortunately, post Covid. It has been dreadful. We have eaten there three times in the last six months; each time was very poor. We believe in giving a restaurant more than one chance because the occasion when it is a poor experience might simply be “one off“ and the same could be true on the second visit. However, when one visits three different times over a period of six months and the food is consistently poor and the service, while not poor, is erratic, leads one to say that we will not be returning anytime soon and would encourage others not to visit there either. There are far better choices in Victoria. On our most recent visit, the whole restaurant was slightly on the grubby side, the menus, which were formerly in a plastic jackets, were now a single sheet of paper, worn, creased, and dirty. my wife and I shared a hamburger and french fries. The hamburger was lukewarm, had one slice of pickle, lettuce, a little mayonnaise, and a slice of unmelted cheese. The french fries were not cool but cold and hard. There were no condiments on the table; we had to ask for vinegar, as well as salt and pepper.

I have visited this restaurant a few times a few years ago. Sadly it has not aged well. It is a fairly large pub which pays for a few dedicated parking spots in a very busy parking lot. The first clue was that all spaces were vacant. We walked into the restaurant which was very cold and the server advised me apologetically that they didn’t have access to the heat. The staff that we spoke to were the one bright spot in what had become a shabby and drab restaurant. My friend went to the rest room while I perused the small and uninspired menu. When she returned we ended up leaving without ordering due to the smell and apparently uncleared restroom. I can’t comment on the quality of the food as it was just so inviting. I was very sad to see it in this condition. Maybe it is really busy at night and if we were just going in for drinks it might have been better.

Please improve your food love this pub!

To start off I love this pub! It’s close to home and comfy and welcoming. That being said the food has become increasingly worse. We used to have a beef dip on a pretzel bun that was to die for but it was taken off the menu. That left us scrambling to find a new favourite. At the price of eating out you want to be satisfied with your lunch. Tried the chicken burger and the first order was delicious but two other times it was over cooked. My daughter sent back food for the first time ordering the butternut squash ravioli. So this brings us to this last visit. My friend drove down from up island and I was a little nervous suggesting the pub but she said let’s give it a try. We both had the sliders. There they sat there lonely on the plate overcooked, smothered in garlic aioli we managed to eat two and I felt so bad I paid for lunch. I want this place to succeed and really pub food isn’t that difficult but please do something to improve things. I wish you nothing but success.

We ate here yesterday and ordered a Cobb salad. It was the WORST EVER salad I have ever had to experience. Brown lettuce on the ends, an very much undercooked egg ice cold and runny, tomatoes looked unwashed, avocado was ok, about 1/2 ounce of bacon. It was absolutely horrible. I felt ill after consuming. I only ate it because I was famished. Trust me we should have walked out. And the bill was $42.00 for two very very disgusting salads. Stay away from that place unless you just want to Drink

Worst pub in Victoria.

Worst pub we've been in. The place wasn't busy but still the servers were totally uninterested in the clients. Menu was limited. No idea how the food tasted as we never did get to eat anything. After 45 minutes of being ignored, we left and found a better place where the staff were great, the food was hot and on the table in 15 minutes. Won't be back to the Ross Bay Pub.

Great food. We came in just as the kitchen was closing but they still served us. That was awesome. We had planned to eat downtown but since it was getting dark thought with the state of the area there would be best to check out this pub as it was within walking distance of our rental. Glad we did. Everything was great. Get the yam fries they are the best.

Great local pub

Visited for first time today. Service was warm and excellent. I ordered the House Mac and Cheese and it was the best I have ever eaten. Husband had a Ross Burger, which he also really enjoyed. Definitely a return is in order.

Struggling Place

This place has been struggling it seems for a while. We live close by and we want to support RBP. We usually go on Thursdays when the music ranges from good to excellent. Recently: - The decor is so tired! - Food has gone from ok to terrible. - - Beef brisket was very overcooked. - -- Chicken taco was almost inedible. - staff seem to be trying but I detected a dirty look when I tipped 15 % on a decent sized bill! Should have been 0 % based on food quality. Not sure we will return. The music would be the only reason. There are many other choices that try harder!

Poor experience

We arrived for lunch on a Wednesday afternoon at 12 PM. We were quite hungry. We were received by a server, who perhaps may have been having a bad day. There were two other tables who had already been served. And we received our food menu. We were approached by the server again and asked if we wanted a beverage. I asked what do they have? She forgot to give us her beverage menu. She gave that to us and then walked away five minutes later, she came back, took our drink order, and the beverage came relatively quickly but when she took our beverage order, we also put in our food order. My husband had Caesar salad and I had fish tacos. My husband received his Caesar salad half hour later and in the meantime, other people had come in and were served. My tacos arrived 25 minutes after that. So I had waited 55 minutes for my meal. I said to the server seeing as we had to wait so long for our meals, would she consider giving us each another glass of wine. She said sure that she would add that to the bill. She started getting a little bit out of sorts and short with us, and once my meal had arrived, I asked to speak to the manager. The manager gave us the reason that , they were short staffed because of Covid. I think the right thing for the server was to notify us that our food was going to be at least 45 to 55 minutes late. Seeing as there was barely anybody in the restaurant we should've been served quicker than that. The server clearly was in a foul mood and I tried to give her an out. I said to her you must be so frustrated because you're short staffed and you have so many people wanting to eat at this time and she said no people like to just relax. Needless to say there was no tip and I recommend that the servers have some kind of customer service training.

Awful food

Went for dinner with family and food was awful! I ordered salmon burger and it was the worst burger I have ever had!! What a waste of 21$! Filet was dry and overcooked, bun was also dried out and there was no flavour! My other family members got the Yorkie and it was disappointing too! Years ago it was great now lousy food:We will not be going back
