Heron Rock Bistro is a hidden gem. It's only about a 7 minute walk from the harbour but a bit of a secret (except to locals). The food is always delicious (especially the crab cakes) and the servers are very friendly, knowledgable, and have extra patience (great for a large group). We just love this place and wish we lived in Victoria so we could go more often :)

This is a friendly neighborhood bistro. Our very attentive waiter, Colin, spoke fluent French which was much appreciated by one person in our group. The mushroom papperdelle was ordered by two in my group of 6 who raved about it. I loved the mussels. Fresh and tasty.

Going on a Saturday was a mistake because it was very noisy/busy, however the food was locally sourced or made in-house, the staff are friendly and I can just walk home. There is on street parking, outdoor tables are nice on a warm day, indoor booths are available to make dining a bit more private. My bride and I have been here for other meals and never been disappointed with the food.

This cozy restaurant has a small pet friendly patio outside. We were told it was Happy Hour, so I ordered off the Happy Hour Menu.
I ordered the Fat Buoy Burger and an order of Fries, as they are sold separately at Happy Hour (still cheaper than if they were both together after happy hour).
The Burger had seasoning mixed in the Beef patty which didn’t quite taste right. I think it would have tasted better if they did not mix seasoning in the Burger and instead sprinkled Salt and Pepper on top while grilling. A plain Beef patty is also better, in case people don’t like or can’t have seasoning mixed inside the Beef. They used a good quality bun for the Burger (but it should have been slightly toasted). An un toasted Bun does not complement a Burger very well. The Aioli lacked flavour and the Onion Relish was ok.
Overall the Burger was good, but could have been much better, if they omitted the seasoning mixed in the Beef and if the Bun was toasted. The Fries were very fresh and crispy. They were not greasy.
Service was good and the servers were very personable, friendly and accommodating. Prices were reasonable.

We were looking forward to our meal as the bistro had good reviews and was well known to our family. Our meal was substantially delayed and the waiter was very honest and said due to a mix up our order had been forgotten. We really appreciated his honesty. The food arrived about 20 minutes later but was over cooked and very disappointing. The restaurant did give us a free dessert to share between four of us but all in all it was a very disappointing experience.

We have visited the Heron Rock Bistro many times when in Victoria to visit friends. Our most recent visits were, once again, very enjoyable. The service was excellent - the staff knows the menu well and can make good recommendations. They let us linger, which was much appreciated. The food was great - loved the crab cakes, the fish and chips, and our friends enjoyed their brunch items. Every dessert we've tried was also delicious. We sat outside, where we were permitted to have our shy rescue dog with us. Very grateful for this as we could not leave her alone and few places in Victoria seemed dog-friendly. We will continue to return to the Heron Rock Bistro and highly recommend it!

Came here for a birthday brunch and it did not disappoint, absolutely delicious. A great selection for everyone in our group to choose from. The service was good and the staff very friendly. When in Victoria, you need to check this place out. Parking wasn’t hard to find and for a hot day - it was a very comfortable inside dining environment.

We visit family in Victoria and we look forward to visiting the Heron Rock Bistro. The food is fabulous, it is creative, and it is made perfectly, looks beautiful. We had a group of 9 and our server Rory was great, explained everything really well, he was efficient and pleasant.
Everything was wonderful, quiche, salads, crab cake, lamb burgers, grilled Reubens, etc.
The desserts were incredible, the chocolate mousse is probably one of the best desserts I have ever had, and I heard the Creme Brulee was exceptional too!

Great meal, good steaks, pasta and fish. Nice wine too. Always good to find a proper neighbourhood restaurant. Waiter whose name I can’t remember was great-gave us tips for places to see and chatted to my rugby playing boys about his days as a professional player-fantastic.

The calamari was dreadful...very thick batter like one gets on deep fried prawns in bad Chinese restaurants, very rude waitress who totally ignored us while she spent at lest 10 minutes chatting it up with her friends at another table. I have eaten here several time and it is always hit and miss. Sometimes the staff is wonderful and the food really quite good and other times it is quite the opposite. With so many wonderful places to eat in Victoria this one is not a favorite.

Staff was great! Very attentive and funny! I was unhappy that the lamb burger could only be obtained well-done. Lamb looses all of it’s flavour when cooked that much. I know that B.C. has rules on how much meat must be cooked, so in that case the offering should be taken off of the menu. All IMHO! The booze was good and the staff was great! 🤫

We were staying near by and heard good things about this place so we sauntered down Simcoe St for lunch here. Since both of us have difficulty hearing, we elected to dine outside in the long awaited sunshine of Victoria. Our only word of advice is to choose your table wisely since someone in an upper balcony decided to water their plants and splashed water down upon us in the process. Once we changed tables everything went well. The service is excellent with friendly staff who were helpful in our making selections. The food is very good -we dined from the sandwich/burger side of an extensive menu.
All told an enjoyable experience notwithstanding the unexpected showers!

We visited this lovely bistro with our 2 young kids, while in Victoria on holiday. It seemed like a nice local neighbourhood eatery away from the main shopping district, which we liked but was easily walkable from our hotel near the harbour. The staff were so friendly and the atmosphere was nice and relaxed. The food portions were generous and everything we ordered was delicious. Would happily return.
On another plus note, it is very close to a nice big supermarket so we were able to pick up a few supplies after dinner too.

Walked over to James Bay Area for a bite to eat. There are a few choices over this way but not like over town - especially on a Monday.
I ordered the classic breakfast and my wife the soup, salad and bun. The breakfast included warmed up potato wedges, toast, eggs your style and bacon or sausages. It was all good but a little heavy on the reheating of food. The soup was very tasty, the salad fresh and wonderful dressing and the bun was great too.
All together this was a great stop and could certainly return to try more.

You haven't lived until you have tried their Chicken & Waffle Eggs Benny. After a somewhat glutinous weekend in Victoria - is was thinking a small fruit cup was all I could possible bring myself to eat when i met my girlfriend for a mid-morning brunch. I was there for the company. But then you read some of their unique menu options and the 1/2 order of the Chicken and Waffle benny tempted me to ditch a fruit cup for something new. what came was a plate of perfection. A beautiful little waffle topped by a super crispy and flavourful buttermilk fried chicken breast. A lovely soft poached egg with a generous amount of hollandaise was everything you could ask for. Until you drizzled the maple syrup over top. YUM! The only thing I hate about this dish is that when I go back, it will be what I order again and again - and I'll never get to try any of the other interesting sounding dishes.
