I visited The Oaks to have a late afternoon breakfast and I was sadly disappointed with the meal as it was presented. The Veggie Benny was something I've ordered there last year several times and it was excellent. This year it was a very different...experience. The eggs were perfectly cooked but the mushrooms and spinach were so wet that water dripped down onto the plate when I cut into the English muffin. I asked if the mushrooms were canned and was told they never would use canned mushrooms. I didn't ask if they were frozen along with the spinach, which I suspect is the case. Both vegetables lacked taste and the muchrooms were slimy and tasteless. The counter that I sat at was sticky and the place has become very grotty. Not clean at all, was my impression. Time for a deep clean and a purge of the freezer maybe? Easy enough to get fresh spinach and white mushrooms and this would have improved the taste and my overall impression. I don't think I'll be returning.More

Went here for a dinner with friends. The inside is much less intriguing than the exterior but the food was great. Service was efficient and friendly. I had the teriyaki mushroom swiss burger and to change it up I wanted to try the highly recommended...butternut squash soup. Some sort of squash soup anyway. I'm not normally a soup person but this was a great soup. The burger was very tasty as well. All my friends stated their food was excellent as well and the plates were either emptied or taken home.More

A wonderful restaurant in a historic building in Oak Bay. We love visiting Oak Bay because of the history and charm. Driving around and looking at all the beautiful historic houses is truly worth the time. Speaking of time it was time to eat. Parking...was easy and plentiful at the recreation center. A short walk to Oak Bay Ave and there on the corner, is the restaurant. This was our first visit to this restaurant and it didn't disappoint. We were there for a late lunch and surprised to learn they still served breakfast. I ordered a ham and cheese Omelette, which was truly delicious. The hash browns were sprinkled with Parmesan, which added a burst of flavor. My wife had a half ruben sandwich and soup, which was equally delicious. We enjoyed this restaurant so much, we decided to go again for lunch the following day. I ordered the Omelette again! Highly recommend this restaurant.More

We come here for breakfast whenever we visit Victoria. This is not a loud music, 100 versions of "bennies" kind of place. This is you tummy filling breakfast with friendly service at a reasonable price.

If you are on the main street of the municipality of Oak Bay and you don't want Japanese, bistro, Italian deli, French, or other cuisines, then your best bet for just wanting traditional western food in a community environment is this restaurant. Lots of locals...eat here, prices and portions are excellent value, service is very friendly and it has live music or dinner theatre on special evenings (at which time dinner is offered). It does traditional fare well like burgers, and full breakfasts although I found the butternut squash soup very bland on this outing. The building itself is historic and I sat in a very British section where photos/souvenirs of the Queen and her people adorned the walls. Family-friendly and wheelchair/stroller accessible. Gluten-free and vegetarian dishes available.More

We enjoyed a late breakfast today. I had the Traditional and the wifey a Vegetarian Omelette. The servers seemed to be a bit swamped but they managed well. I ordered eggs sunnyside up but arrived as scrambled. I never order scrambled because the preparation can...be too unpredictable. However, they looked good and I did not bother to mention the error to the server. They were in fact excellent. Overall, a very positive impression. I highly recommend.More

We stopped at this restaurant while spending the day in the oak Bay Area. It had a comfortable and friendly vibe. Brandie made us feel welcome and gave us good ideas about the menu for our late lunch. We enjoyed the sandwiches and yummy salad......fresh and good value. Brandie recommended the brownies and they were large and delicious ( Brandie heated them and they were moist in the middle ... best brownies ever) There were folks at the restaurant at the bar and in a corner, reading a paper and drinking coffee , another table having afternoon tea ...it’s a friendly hub of the community and the staff seemed caring. Dining area and bathroom was clean.More

Primarily, we went for the musical entertainment while dining, and are booked again for next Friday night for the same reason. Had halibut fish and chips on Friday special for $15 for one piece and $20 for two pieces. It was fine but nothing special.Good...drink specials, decent service. A mixed bag of decor.More
