My husband and I chose to come here to try something new for a quick lunch while we were in the neighbourhood. The server seemed to be having a bad day and we almost felt we were being a burden. I was surprised to see...such old decor, carpet and table at a restaurant along oak bay avenue. The food was good and the prices were fair. We both ordered the Turkey sandwich. The bread could have been toasted a little longer however the turkey was real and very fresh. The fries were really tasty, however my husband asked for a chipotle mayo to dip his fries into and we were disappointed in the up charge for pretty much plain mayo. I ordered the butternut squash soup as a side and it was VERY sweet. I had to add a lot of pepper and salt to counteract the sweetness. Over all a decent place to go for a simple lunch.More
We went in for a final dinner at the end of our stay with my parents. They had very very loud music that night and they sat us right in front of the band. We asked to be moved but they said they could not...accommodate even though no one was in two booths at the back and the staff told us ‘no one can reserve specific tables’. My burger was burnt and incredibly dry, and they didn’t bring us even basic things like water, ketchup, and mustard. It’s sad because my parents are comfortable on this place and go there all the time. Perhaps they are ageist? Or just completely incapable of addressing the needs of their elderly clients. I won’t go back ever and Oak Bay elderly folks, I recommend you avoid this place as well!More
You get very good bang for your buck here -- nothing gourmet, just friendly service and large servings of food from a wide selection of choices on their menu. We like the daily specials which are offered for lunch and dinner times. The yorkshire pudding...is HUGE when you order the Saturday roast beef special. For under $20, it's a treat but not heavy on the meat or flavour. Good place for family meals: tables are distanced and staff wear masks.More
My husband and I recently spent 4 nights at the Oak Bay Beach Hotel and while walking around Oak Bay Village discovered Oaks Restaurant and Grill. We stopped and reviewed the menu, deciding to return later that evening for dinner. The historic building is the...oldest in Oak Bay, having been built in 1912 and was originally the Oak Bay Grocery & Post Office. Over the years it's changed hands but still shows it's rustic age. It was really nice to read about the history, which is included with the extensive menu- there are options for everyone, including breakfast all day. Our server on the Friday night we were there was Brandie and she was excellent. My husband had the Original Burger with fries and I really enjoyed my half open faced tuna melt sandwich with a bowl of Butternut Squash soup. The restaurant was pretty full so we were seated at a table at the edge of the stairs going down to where the bar was/band plays but shortly after we sat down a table at the window opened up. Brandie said no problem for us to move and sitting by the window was perfect. The band playing was wonderful - we really enjoyed their "east coast" music and the patrons were tapping their feet and clapping. They were so good we decided after our meals to order a glass of wine (only $7.50 each) and stay for the rest of their set (which ended around 7:15pm). No cover charge either! We noticed Oaks serves afternoon tea - something we have always wanted to try. When we returned the next day at 11:30 am, we received the same wonderful table by the window (so nice to see everyone out walking). Sharon explained how the afternoon tea worked and we decided to order one full afternoon tea ($24.75) and one tea and scone ($7.75). For the scones we had one cheese and one raisin. The tray included scone, homemade jam, whipped cream, 3 finger sandwiches, mini quiche, mini sausage roll, mini lemon tart, assorted cakes, fruit and an English trifle. Several options for tea, we chose English Breakfast. Everything was delicious and we had more than enough to eat (this was our lunch). It was relaxing, just taking our time choosing different items to eat (the nanaimo bar was amazing!). Sharon offered us more hot water, and we were there an 1.5 hours. During that time, the restaurant was lined up, it's a very busy and popular place. Great service, wonderful atmosphere and delicious food. We will definitely return if we have the opportunity to visit the area again.More
I didn't realize The Oaks Restaurant was the former Blethering Place. However, while we were just going to pop in for a coffee on a cold day, we stayed for breakfast. First, excellent Covid vaccination check at the door as well as ID. The tea...was served in a warm china cup, the breakfast plate also warmed. The hash browns served with breakfast were beautifully cooked, no grease there. I ordered the vegetarian Benny, first class with the option of grilled tomatoes rather than hash browns, no extra charge. My husband favoured the English breakfast and once again, first class. Add to this home made marmalade for the toast and a delightful server; working on a cold, miserable day after the third snow storm in two weeks. The music playing kept us there for another pot of tea ... . All in all the place we'll frequent when in Oak Bay.More
Good for our group of 4 was flat ..cannot remember the other orders, but they were not good. My quesadillas think chicken but not sure…were tasteless other than some cream cheese mix. All the food was disappointing as we have had very good food over...the past 6 months. House wine by half litre was too expensive, but the service and band was excellent! Keep bringing multi instrument bands not single vocalists as folks want a toe tappin experience not a single local vocal singer…musical instruments are the ticket! ..Nov. 12 was this visit…More
Been coming for years and never had bad service until today. The server was rude from the get-go and chastised me for not waiting at the door instead of joining my wife who came in before me. Then she seemed deliberately slow in serving us...and we never did get the meal we ordered. After being there a whole hour we had to go to an appointment. When we told her, she never apologized but said "Do what you want you want". Asked for manager and she said "there isn't one" so we just left. Maybe she was having a bad day: but not a good advertisement for this place.More
stumbled upon this restaurant while walking and It did not disappoint! menu has a wide range of items. the half sandwich with a salad was a great deal and the side of salad was a great portion. it says it has the best brownie in...Victoria and that may be true…it was delicious!More
We went with friends and it has a lovely venue, with courteous staff and great food! It is located in the center of Oak Bay, in historic Oak Bay's oldest building! Serving all day breakfast, traditional afternoon tea, and wonderful meals!
It looks like a classic British Pub on the outside (and inside), however, it's technically a restaurant. Don't worry, you can still get great beer, etc. here, too! We were looking for classic breakfast fare at about 11:15 on a Sunday morning, when we stumbled...across this place. We peeked inside and saw it PACKED with locals. We weren't disappointed. Breakfast was served until 4 PM, although Lunch was also available after 11 AM. Breakfast ends at 4 PM, when Dinner begins. Their breakfast specialty is various types of Eggs Benedict (six different kinds!). They also specialize in omelettes and other egg breakfasts. Pancakes and waffles are also available. Everybody was here, seniors, couples, young families with babies, etc. Except for us, I'm pretty sure everyone else was local. If I lived here, I'd be here all the time, as well. The room is nothing fancy, but that's part of the charm. It's essentially an old Tudor-style pub-like place that serves outstanding down-to-earth food with excellent ingredients (like THICK premium bacon), at very good prices. The place is also wonderfully decorated with old knick-knacks and some lovely photo portraits of the British Royal Family. On the way out, we noticed two ladies enjoying a wonderful presentation of "Cream Tea" (not to be confused with "High Tea"). Absolutely delicious looking pastries and scones along with sweet cream-based desserts. I think we know what we'll be having for our next visit to this wonderful hidden find!More
I had the liver & onions and it was delicious, very tender and tasty. Very pleasant and attentive staff, nice atmosphere. I had a memorable time.
The food at the Oaks Restaurant is really good. I have two favourites. The first one is the chicken parmigiana and my second brand new favourite is the seafood pesto linguine which was recently added to the menu. I work at this restaurant and I...know the food is good. Give it a try.More
We went on a Wednesday for the special Burger and Beer $14.95. A very old fashioned looking place, with an older crowd. Having said that, the food was surprisingly delicious, and the service great. You have a choice of sides with the Burger, and they...didn't skimp on the portions. A super value and tasty too.More
Were in the area and stopped in to a breakfast/lunch. The food was good, the atmosphere, OK (but dated) and the service was less than stellar. We would return but in the hopes we were served by a different server. The bus-person was FAR more...attentive than our waitress.More
