Was a bit worried as we brought the kids for dinner to this upscale restaurant, however they were very accommodating. They were able to make a few adjustments to some items to suit the kids tastes and the meal was the best we experienced in Victoria. Our steak and halibut was excellent, service was top notch and was a great experience from start to finish. If you’re a fan of interesting liquor (I’m a bourbon drinker) the selection was amazing. The bartender was very knowledgeable and suggest an amazing pour. Topping on the cake… the meal was only $40 more than eating at a chain restaurant and that included drinks, so was actually an amazing value as well. Skip the garbage and treat yourself to this amazing establishment! It should be noted that our kids are older (11 and 15) and have eaten at many fine establishments. Not recommend for families with whiny kids or picky eaters. But if they are well behaved I can absolutely recommend it!

This is a discrete little restaurant found in a basement downtown Victoria. We found the food and drinks here to be outstanding! The service was good, but not exceptional, could be improved to take the whole experience to the next level. We were at Olo the following evening and although we found the food comparable in quality and price, we found the service at olo more personal. On that note, the halibut entree was the best I’ve ever had! Would highly recommend to anyone!

I was in Victoria with a friend for only one night and the online menu for this restaurant really captured our eye. The food was above and beyond what we expected - like seriously it's been two months and we still talk about the mussels and truffle fries pretty often. We felt disappointed by the shrimp ceviche initially because of its small portion to high price ratio BUT - my word, the flavors blew my mind. It was so bold in flavor and really the whole meal set our road trip off on a delicious seafood-y note. Great spot!

Maybe pre-pandemic this was a great spot as we heard good reports but we don't get it. We felt "patronized" by the host/hostess from the first moment, lonely in the 8 or so tabled basement, no windows, tunnel like atmosphere , shocked at the limited menu (maybe 3 or 4 appies, 5 or so entrees, etc) and sky high prices. Never have we seen martini's or cocktails for $20+. Although my tenderloin was tasty, melt in my mouth good, it was about a 3 oz portion. I felt embarrassed for the server/kitchen and considering the price, thought it was outrageous. Although we talked about walking out after seeing the menu and prices, we decided to stay and give it a chance..... but at the end, couldn't wait to leave. Never again. There are SO many better choices in town.

It is unacceptable to require my name, address, billing information, credit card number (including expiry and CVC) just to make a reservation. And if you need to cancel within 24 hours (like if something comes up the morning of the reservation, which can happen.... Duh) you are billed $25...per person. Come on! This is not the best restaurant in Canada. And in this day and age of credit card scams, etc it really is unacceptable to request this. I have been to world class restaurants all over North America that do not require a credit card deposit. . There are also many amazing restaurants in Victoria which do not request a deposit for a reservation. And I will happily eat there. I encourage others to do the same. . Shame on you Little Jumbo.

My partner and I decided to try this place due to the great reviews. I'm baffled as to how anyone gave this more than 1 or 2 stars. I would give this 0 stars if I could. Cocktails: mine was $25, hers was $20. Why? They were just ok, but overly sweet. Mine was supposed to have mint and numerous other things in it, but it just tasted like a whiskey sour. Way overpriced. The steak and frites: more like frites with a 4 oz steak.. for $45. The steak was presliced.. why? Probably to make it look larger than it was on the plate. It still looked laughably small. Oh, and it tasted horribly overwhelmed by pepper. It was then drenched in a very acrid reduction and some white sauce that literally tasted like nothing. Oh, and it came with a bunch of frites.. Pork chop: her plate looked ridiculous too, all the food was on one side of the plate, such a tiny portion. The pork was just ok, but nothing special enough to warrant $38! It came with a scoop of mash that tasted like a salt puck and three olives, which made literally no sense on the plate.. For a place that supposedly prides itself on fresh local ingredients, I was surprised not to find a single vegetable on our plate. When asking the server, they said it was $6 extra for vegetables. Sorry, I didn't realize the $40 entree wouldn't cover vegetables as well. There is no way this food is prepared by professional chefs. I am so frustrated that a place like this gets great reviews after ripping so many people off. Do yourself a favour and eat at Brassiere L'ecole or The Palms instead. The food is a billion times better, it comes with vegetables and more than 2 components on your plate, and is far more reasonably priced. I don't know how little jumbo can justify charging more than those places... Even though this came to well over $100, we were still hungry afterwards because of the ridiculous portion sizes. We eneded up going home and cooking ourselves another meal which, I know, is kind of pathetic.

The service was excellent. Our server was an engaging, knowledgeable young man with a good sense of humour. All 3 stars are for him. My son had the steak, my wife and daughter-in-law had the tagliatelle, and I had the burger. Steak good, tagliatelles average, and the burger was absolutely dreadful. At $32 for a burger, I was expecting something exceptional. Instead the bun might have been from a local grocery store, the lettuce was fresh and crisp, the sauce was thin and tasteless, the cheese was a very, very thin slice of white processed cheese (Costco?), the meat paddy was thin, over-cooked, dry, and hard to chew, and on the bottom bun resided 3 pathetic little slices of pickle out of a jar. A disaster!! My wife ordered coffee and was told they don't serve coffee. Our server was gracious enough to take the cost of the burger off the bill. Given the very limited menu and the high prices, one would expect the restaurant to do much better.

If your in Victoria this place is a must, the food without a doubt is amazing. We had the baked brie for an appy it was perfect. Then I had the halibut and my daughter had the steak, the halibut was cooked to perfection and the gnocchi was so soft and flavourful. My daughters steak was cooked to perfection, even the sides were outstanding. Best of all was Daisy she was so knowledgeable and friendly. I will come back next time I’m in Victoria.

This venue has a unique layout. The long row of small tables opposite the bar are perfect for a quiet dinner with friends. The thing that stood out for me on the drinks menu was the incredible 'Smoking Gun'... The Menu itself was an eclectic mix of flavours and it's a real treat to see Beef Tartar on a menu!

Have been meaning to try this place for a very long time and last night the stars aligned. Took my daughter here as she and I are the foodies in the family, and wow. The atmosphere, decor, mood were all on point - perfect. There was almost a mysterious type vibe to the whole thing, like you entered into some sort of secret underground club. Drinks were amazing, I tried one of the listed signature cocktails and it was great, and for my 2nd told the server what sort of flavour I was in the mood for and they whipped something up made to perfection. Truffle frites made a solid appetizer, but the baked Brie was the star on the table. Pasta dishes were incredible and my daughter declared the butternut squash ravioli to be the “best thing I’ve ever eaten.” Well done, Little Jumbo!

Spoke to a staff member and booked our table for dine around. When it came to placing our order 2 of us requested the dine around menu and the third person ordered off the menu. We were then informed all 3 of us had to order off dine around menu or it would not be offered. So disappointing as there was nothing on the dine around menu that suited the 3rd person so we had to order off the menu. We should have been told when making our reservation. it's an all or nothing.

Went for anniversary dinner. Wine list heavy on Italian wines and over priced. Food was not great. When I asked about the 6 oz beef tenderloin I was told it would generally be medium to well done as it was sous vide. I ordered it medium rare and the server took the order saying no problem, When the plate arrived the steak had been cut in half so there were two pieces that were put together with a sauce on top to make it look like one piece. Either they cut the meat and then put pieces together to make 6 oz or they were checking the doneness. Either way it’s weird. The veggies were a few pieces of potato and a small bouquet of asparagus. There was a greenish paste on the bottom which was the peas. As one of the most expensive items on the menu, it was disappointing. The Keg next door has better and more consistent steaks. My wife ordered the halibut…tasted very much like previously frozen. Nice size piece but chewy. Not good value. For an appetizer, we ordered the scallops to share. Two scallops arrived at $23 making it really over priced for what you got. Clearly the menu for food is geared to tourists who won’t be back anyway. We saw several couple who came in, had a drink and then left. Maybe it was price shock. I would neither return to dine or recommend to others. That is too bad.

Lovely ambience and kind staff. The lamb dish was very good. The sesame & chocolate cake with the sesame ice cream didn't taste too much like sesame (I had a nicer sesame ice cream at Fairouz in Ottawa, but that's a personal preference). Great restaurant overall.

Only 1.5 hrs to eat, hmmm. Short on staff (which is understandable in COVID) a suggestion, in those circumstances, put your phone on mute. A fairly limited menu, and tbh neither of our entrees justified the restaurants reputation. Staff did their best, but overall an underwhelming experience.

Went to Jumbo expecting a great meal (as always) and left more satisfied than expected. Their current menu is fantastic with the highlight being the Lamb tartare which is extremely fresh, flavourful and includes the best Sea Asparagus i have ever had. This place is on a different level than most downtown Victoria restaurants and is definitely a must if you like quality experimental food.
