This review is for the Upstairs Oyster Bar … Our Server “ Kennedy “ is amazing, extremely professional and friendly. The raw oysters were just divine, the fried smelt was tasty, Grilled Octopus was slightly overcooked , the Bouillabaisse was nice & good portion for...2. A very pleasant dining experience.More

We ate at the Ferris' Garden & Grill. I really enjoyed our dinner here. The menu had a lot of yummy sounding items to me. Heather was our server and she was AMAZING...so helpful, patient and attentive. She recommended a local wine, Enrico Winery Ortega,...and I loved it. We ordered pan fried oysters, an oyster shooter, steamed clams & mussels, fish & chips, and seafood tagliatelle. If I lived in the area, I would eat there often.More

Though not usually an early diner, had to take advantage of Ferris Happy hour specials 3 to 5pm including oysters on the shell for only $1 each...my friend had 18 of these tasty little morsels from Fanny Bay. We also had a couple of other...HH specials including mini fish and chips (it really was quite mini), a hummus, a veg pate and something else. All dishes tasty. Drinks were also on special...a great attraction. The restaurant is small and narrow...try not to sit near the entrance door which can be a bit cold. Street parking. Brisk service. Very popular with the locals which is always a good sign.More

Ferris’ used to be a great place for a casual dinner. Last evening I was disappointed. Nothing wrong with the food, really. It was tasty. But the “seafood laksa” (“ocean wise prawns, wild salmon, pacific cod, Saltspring Island mussels, Manilla clams, Malaysian coconut curry, rice...noodles, cilantro”) had very few shell fish or prawns, two very small bites of fish and no salmon that I could identify. It was certainly not what I expected for $29.50. My partner was similarly disappointed in the small amount of seafood in his seafood in his “seafood tagliatelle.” The server was great, though. We both felt hungry after dinner. We’ll be cautious about returning.More

Ferris Upstairs Seafood and Oyster Bar was a great find. Funky small restaurant, good service, great music, cool hockey-themed paintings on the rustic walls and super food. I had the black cod, prawns, pork & shrimp dumpling, bok choy, and Thai red curry broth. Awesome!

This is my third time at this restaurant and it keeps getting better. It is centrally located in downtown Victoria. The bouillabaisse is excellent as is the Humboldt squid. Service is friendly. The restaurant is invariably busy so best to reserve.

For the most part, we really enjoyed our dinner at the Oyster Bar. We started with a couple appys, the Oysters Rockefeller and the Hokkaido Scallops. The Rockefeller was their take on a classic, and quite different from what we are used to. Probably our...least favourite Rockefeller we have ever had. No variance in texture, no bread to soak up the liquor, really quite disappointing. The Scallops on the other hand were outstanding. Perfectly seared, with great accompaniments. Order 2 orders of the Scallops, or one order and fresh oysters instead. Then we had our Mains of Black Cod and Halibut. Both pieces of fish were cooked perfectly, which in our experience, is not always the case. The light Thai red curry sauce with my Black Cod was very bland and lacked seasoning. The sauce with the Halibut was very tasty and nicely balanced.Again, a shame no bread is provided. Shouldn't be too much to expect given a restaurant with these prices. We ended our meal with the Chocolate Trio and it was a delightful dessert. All in all, a great meal, if not quite perfect. Hopefully these comments are helpful in your ordering.More

Tucked away on Yates is the best restaurant and service in Victoria. We arrived upstairs to be seated at the kitchen counter while we waited for our table. Had delicious drinks, a dirty old fashion (who knew) and Campari/soda. We were studying the menu, so...many choices to be made. Lily, our server, was a delight. We started with a good Albariño. First choices: fried smelts and the steamed shellfish. WOW. Both were amazing. The fried smelts were crispy, perfectly cooked. The accompanying sauce, out of this world. The steamed shellfish was also cooked perfectly. We needed extra bread, which Lily happily brought to the table, to sop up the tasty broth. Next to the entrees. Black cod with bokchoy, hubbys choice, was yummy. I got just one bite! This was fine because my Salmon crusted with quinoa served with black lentil purée (a classic pairing) was all mine. I did share a bite!! Unfortunately, we were so full we couldn’t possibly eat dessert. We were left feeling a bit cheated we didn’t get to try everything on the menu….so we came back the next night. Lily was our server. Suffice it to say that meal was also wonderful, smelts again, the grilled squid was so so tender, bouillabaisse for hubby and the scallops for me. Yes, we did dessert night 2. The almond cake with after dinner drinks. Thanks you Ferris Upstairs and Lily for making 2 evenings of dining in Victoria fabulous. PS. Good price point too!More

Depends on the time of year. Summer time I definitely would make a reservation. Bar seating is actually a lot of fun with lively conversations.
