We had such a great meal here! I had Penang gai and my husband had the garlic prawns And both were absolutely fantastic. I also had my first Thai iced tea. Yum! The service was so fast and friendly, even though the restaurant was very...busy. The Hostess that night (Oct 12) had such a great And friendly energy. You can tell that the owner really cares about customer service. Even the bathroom reflected that as it was very clean and had a nice selection of q tips, Feminine products, Hair ties etc for patrons who may need them. We can’t wait to go back!More

Wonderful meal at a busy spot and time of day. Servers were attentive and flexible, and adjusted orders based on diners needs. I had an amazing green curry with prawns (12 prawns!!), and I heard the next table being asked off fish sauce was okay,...because they ordered a plant-based meal. Highly recommend this spot.More

Some in our group of 6 had never had Thai food before. We told them, if they didn't like this, they shouldn't try it elsewhere because this was the best in our opinion! The portions were generous... you might want to share a selection. You...can choose your spice level... one of our party who loves spicy Mexican food choose the spiciest level and had a little challenge with it. :) There was a chicken wing option some of the other first timers really liked. Oh, my, I wish we had a place this good in Montana. I also loved the decor and calm feeling of the place.More

We really enjoyed this experience. I’m not a Thai cuisine connoisseur but it’s among my best Thai food ever. Suki and Jena added to the enjoyment of the food. Be careful with the chilli sauce. They are seriously spicy!

Just went here last night. Wow what Outstanding, friendly service and generous, authentic and delicious food! Will be back for the yummy tofu pad thai and veggie dishes! My teen daughter thinks you are the best restaurant in town and I am inclined to agree....We just need to come here more often than once a year as it’s affordable and there’s always plenty of scrumptious leftovers.More

Delicious Thai food, large portions, reasonably priced. Great vegetarian choices. We had the eggplant and the mushroom dishes with the coconut rice. Vegetables were cooked with just the right amount of tenderness and crispness. The deep fried banana with ice cream was very good. The...staff were very friendly and attentive. This is not the place for a quiet, romantic dinner. Very busy and noisy. Appropriate CoVid precautions were being taken.More

My partner and I have ordered takeout from Sookjai many times before but this was our first time dining in. We went for a birthday dinner, and we didn't tell the servers we were celebrating because we wanted to keep things lowkey. We were amazed...at the level of service we received. Our server was so warm, welcoming, and kind, and other servers would come to the table and check in. The food, as always, was delicious and fresh - definitely still my favourite Thai food in the city. This was the best dining experience we've had in Victoria in a long time and we left smiling. 10/10!More

This is the kind of Thai food we've been searching for and not finding in BC's Lower Mainoand. We had yum nua (beef salad) and chicken with penang curry, Everything was absolutely delicious -- perfectly spiced, just the right heat level -- and both dishes...arrived quickly, which was amazing considering that the restaurant was doing a brisk takeout business when we dined there. The portions were huge, and if we hadn't been taking the ferry home the next day, we would have had enough leftover penang curry for lunch or maybe even dinner. (As it was. we just stuffed ourselves and sadly left some behind.) Our only complaint was that the beef in the yum nua was nicely cooked but not rare or medium rare, which is how we always had it when we lived in the States. Our efficient and knowledgeable server explained that Canadian health regulations prevent serving beef below a certain temperature in dishes like yum nua. Explanation accepted, yum nua still very tasty and enjoyable. If we lived in Victoria, we'd be regulars at Sookjai Thai.More

I would actually rate this place a 4.5. I only give 5 for a place that consistently delivers and I've only eaten here once, but we will return during our next visit to Victoria as the food was so good! My wife & I are...Thai aficionados, and I was (stereotypically) skeptical at first not seeing any Thai servers when I walked in. But the menu looked good and the food was very tasty, even more so than our favourite Thai places in Vancouver! EVERY dish we had was great - Phad Thai Goong, Phad Makua Yao (sauteed eggplant & tofu), Khow Phad Sapparot - Jae (Jasmine fried rice with pineapple, tofu, napa, etc.), coconut rice (favourite of my 4 & 5 year old kids), and deep fried tofu. They offered the option of coconut milk in my Thai Iced Tea instead of the condensed milk which was delicious. My wife commented that you could taste the tamarind in the Phad Thai. We'll be back!More

We ordered takeout. The person who answered the phone and dealt with us during pickup was lovely. The food was another story. We ordered 4 dishes and rice for $74. The rice portion was generous, the only thing that was. The golden cups were overcooked...in such elderly oil that they were a strange shade of brownish-orange and tasted just like that sounds. Horrible and inedible. The ground meat mixture that went in them was sparse and flavourless with an equally flavourless sweet sauce. The beef salad had perhaps 4 ounces of twisted, hard-edged, dry beef that had been cooked at least a day or two before and reheated, on a bed of greens in a container that was at least half full of vinegar. Wow. Crying Tiger, advertised as a piece of grilled beef for $17.50, was a uniform shade of eerie grey, inside and out. The only thing I can figure is that they poach it in liquid, leave it in the cooler until ordered, then heat it up somehow. And it tasted just like that sounds. The last dish, chicken in a red curry and coconut sauce was delicious. But $74 is a lot of money for chicken curry on rice.More
