This is the original Chinese restaurant in Vernon located in the downtown core and is definitely worth a visit. It is upscale Chinese cuisine cooked to perfection, the kind you would find in fancier high end restaurants in Hong Kong and China. The decor is...very traditional Chinese and we loved the traditional teak coloured chairs with silk cushions and the traditional Chinese artwork. It was extremely clean and the staff were super friendly. There is enough space to easily host a large Christmas gathering with buffet service. We went for the buffet but it was not being hosted so we sat and ordered 5 dishes: hot and sour soup, BBQ pork fried rice, Chicken almond gai ding, beef and broccoli, and the Kiki special hot pot. DISH REVIEWS Hot and sour soup: This is a vegetarian version of traditional meat hot and sour. While it was not hot as we liked, it was definitely sweet and sour and cooked to perfection. Vegetarians will love this soup. BBQ pork fried rice: China version of fried rice, simple and basic but again, cooked to perfection. Kid approved. Beef and broccoli: A classic beef and broccoli dish cooked to perfection. Family approved. Chicken almond gai ding: An absolutely outstanding dish with great flavour brilliantly cooked to perfection. This is a must try again dish. Kiki special hot pot: The cream of the crop for this restaurant. This is another outstanding dish with great flavour cooked to perfection. Would return just for this dish. Drinks we got was traditional Chinese tea (crysthumun tea - beautiful flowery smell) and bottomless pop. They refilled our tea without even asking. Total for 5 dishes was $102 with tax which we added a healthy 20% tip on top as this dinner was well worth it. Ample parking nearby. Overall, this restaurant is 5-star for food, service, and decor. It is definately worth all the awards it has won over the years. If you are looking for high-end Chinese cuisine, this is where you want to go in Vernon.More

I got a Dinner for Two plus 4 spring rolls. The beef chop suey literally stunk when you opened the container; smelt like bad meat. The chicken in the chow mien and the pork in the S&S pork tasted stale. The spring rolls were mushy...inside, the chow mien was flat, and the S&S pork was passable.More

We came in for a lunch buffet, as was advertized on the web site, but there was no buffet at all. The restaraunts was practically empty. Only one server/cashier in the whole establishment. No chopsticks, water brought only upon request. Food was OK, but overpriced....Debit machines demanded minimum tip of 15% with three increments to 20-25-30%. I would call it a dying place.More

Bland and chewy Chinese food and is way over priced. Portion size was fine. Disappointing. If someone in Vernon provided average quality and average priced Chinese food places like this would be history.

We ordered steamed pork spareribs and black bean sauce and it was all just pork fat. The house special chop suey was ok but the barbecued fried rice was dry and the pork was hard as a rock. We ate what we could and threw...the rest away. This is not something we normally do. It was terrible.More

We ordered take-out on a whim while passing through Vernon and were blown away by the food. We had basics like the house special fried rice, sweet and sour pork and beef and broccoli but it was delicious. The rice had significant portions of shrimp,...pork and chicken. We tried to go back the next day but they’re currently closed for lunch due to Covid-19. So, three months later, we timed our drive back through Vernon to ensure we got to eat the SSP again. And, it was delicious AGAIN. The restaurant is large and clean and the service attentive. Food came out quickly and hot. Highly recommend this spot. They advertise they don’t use MSG and, unlike other times we’ve binged on Chinese food, we felt full but light after the meal.More

Ordered food for take out. The egg rolls were awful, I'm guessing they were deep fried from frozen, certainly what they looked and tasted like, very flat and very little filling and the crust was not even fully cooked through. The almond chicken was dusted...with what appeared to be almond dust, definitely not an almond in the entire package. The chicken chow mien passed but was bland , and sweet and sour pork was just your run of the mill average dish. The biggest disappointment was the egg roll and almond chicken. Will never order from here again, we assumed that because they had been in business for so long that the food would be better.More

I guess the people of Vernon are content8 with sub-par dining experiences; I cannot understand how Kiki Gardens has so many awards displayed on their front wall and continue to be in business. I I I I guess the people of Vernon are content with...sub-par dining experiences; I cannot understand how Kiki Gardens can have so many awards displayed on their front wall and still be in business. Here's why: The premises is dated and tired and needs a refresh. The service is adequate but not stellar. The selection at this buffet is meager at best. And the food is horrible. The best offering that I could stomach was the canned peaches and ice cream. Everything else was barely edible and truly unpalatable. Case in point: the fried rice was dry and tasteless, the noodles equally bland, the deep fried prawns more batter than flesh, the sweet and sour pork really little pieces of tough meat completely drowning in a too sweet syrupy viscous glob. I could go on but you get the point. In conclusion, this is not Chinese cuisine in the slightest; it is what uninformed Euro-Canadians in the interior of BC believe Chinese cuisine should be. But even using that altered lens to rate this dining experience, Kiki Gardens falls well short of its competition. A generous 1 star.More
