Whilst visiting our daughter out in whistler. Close to a couple of birthdays we thought we would go for a nice meal. While the place itself is ok. The decor and staff are nice and polite albeit pretentious ( if that’s what your into then...fine). But for a large ish restaurant to sit four people in a tiny corner Sat next to loud and obnoxious dinners. Which is admittedly no fault of the restaurant for their manners and behaviour. It would have been nice to have been better placed. With so many other empty tables it’s not like they were at capacity. The food set menu. The cheese on toast was delicious. However with a high price tag. Dead season deal or not, could have been presented far better. A metal bowl with simply cheese on toast wrapped in tin foil. Is not quite what you would expect from fine dining. The Caesar salads were nice and tasty, and prepared table side. Although one party members meal came later than the rest. Good job there wasn’t much on the zucchini plate. So we ended up all finishing our meal at the same time. The mains. Mixed grill and steak meal. There was enough food provided. Didn’t look much so don’t expect a large potion, but it was enough. I have to say I have had better. The meat was cooked to perfection as requested on ordering. I do have to state that. But the accompanying sauce lacked flare. Maybe I’m spoiled by my wife’s cooking talents (she makes a mean Portuguese steak sauce, oh and a blue cheese sauce to die for). Desert. Belgian Chocolate cake. This was again ok and fit for purpose. Nothing much more I can say about it. It finished of a disappointing meal. That’s about it. However in summation I do feel it is over priced for what it is. Don’t expect the world if you do wish to try it. A selection and choice of accompanying sauces would be a nicer touch. Rather than mass produced ju even for a set menu. Again price is a huge factor for me. Lowest tip % is 18 giving a lovely $45 tip for what felt like a very rushed service. Where your squeezed into an unnecessary corner. Meaning staff have to reach over guests to serve. Either that or squeeze behind the ones lucky enough to sit against the wall. Away from obnoxious guys who are too rude to even pick their napkin up after dropping it on the floor when leaving. It’s only a simple thing but I guess arrogance means you don’t have to. Someone else is getting paid to pick up after them.More

A bit overrated, old style restaurant. Great server (Brian) made the experience excellent. On the pricey side. Go for steak, if you like it and can afford it!

The steak was tough. Actually the steak at the breakfast place was superior. I have eaten at Hy's Toronto.....way way better. I mean this was truly sub-par crap. 20 year old milk cow/boot leather. I would grade it as not even A. The same stuff...at a buffet called golden corral in southern Florida......It will break your teeth. I will advise everyone I know to avoid this place. The oysters were supposed to be Malpeque......they were tiny cheap no name oysters. Yet again false representation. I know the difference. I am thinking due to the fact it's a tourist town they don't care it was busy. Even the ceaser salad was crap........I am so disappointed. What a waste of time & money. The keg would have been a far far far better choice. They have no business pushing this garage on unsuspecting people. The staff are polite & pleasant. The food prep & quality is 1/2 a star. Save your money. So sad. The Toronto people would be appalled. shame on you!!!! You know the meat is low grade........ I hope you learn from what I am about to do to this location. You will be penalized via as many outlets as I see fit.More

It’s been awhile since we’ve ventured into Hy’s. Well tonight it was fabulous start to finish. We had a great server (Marvin?) who made sure everything was just right. Attentive and personable. Oysters Rockefeller - sautéed prawns - Beef Wellington (!!) were all superb. (I...would suggest a side of extra Wellington gravy.) And the French fries were stupid good. (Yes French fries!) Well done team.More

First off, the food was excellent. Steaks are cooked perfectly, seafood was delicious! However, it’s expensive. Someone else noted in their review that the side dishes were expensive and I totally agree. The entrees themselves were what I would pay at any other steakhouse. But...the rest of it was too high. Also, we were there in the middle of the afternoon and there was one other table with diners that we could see. It took forever to get our food. Ridiculously long. I would try another steakhouse in Whistler before coming back here.More

My Husband and I went to Hy's Whistler to celebrate our double Birthday. Our hotel recommended Hy's we normally went to Araxi Whistler. We had a terrible experience and would never go back. They knew we were celebrating and make a reservation well in advance...to be in the main dining room. They put us in an area with no other guests in an uncomfortable booth. We asked to be moved and they said we could be in a table next to a wall across from our booth...no ambiance whatsoever. We thought about leaving then. Our waiter brought us the wrong appetizer and when we questioned him he said he wrote it down ... and we were wrong. So we kept the dish. My husband ordered a steak which was nothing like the photo or description we had read prior to dinner. A total disappointment. We had never been there before.... when we were leaving we saw how beautiful and inviting the main dining was....I would never recommend this restaurant for a multitude of reasons. Araxi makes you feel special on your birthday and makes a huge effort for their customers!More

The only reason I have Hys 2 stars was the fact the steak itself was reasonable. You walk into 1999 to a venue that is very tired, and has nothing spent on it in 20 years, and then one discovers that the main aim of...this venue is not for you to have a wonderful experience, rather it’s how much money they can squeeze out of you with extra charges and ridiculous prices for sides. If the food was superb, then I could almost forgive the charging strategy, yet sorry, compared to somewhere like RimRock, RedDoor or Alta bistro, this place just isn’t worth a look. Sad but true!More

We ate at HYs on a Sunday evening and enjoyed 2 courses. I had the French Onion soup which had a lovely flavour, although the mountain of cheese and size of crouton was a little excessive for the size of bowl. The crabcake (singular) starter...was poor value. The steaks were both excellent. Caesar Salad was delicious as a side and it’s a nice touch to have this made at the table. The wines were of good quality, but you’re definitely paying a premium at Hy’s for everything you have. Take a deep breath before you look at the Check !!More

Well… this used to be our favorite restaurant - but something has happened … it is not what it used to be and it’s quite upsetting. We won’t be back. Stay away. Let’s start with the steak - you go there for the steak -...so u would think it would be great. Nope. Our $70, 10 oz NY strip steak was a “choice cut” rather the “Prime” - it was thin, gritty, flavorless and tough. And…. Seems like it was prepared Souse Vide style (boiled) and then briefly grilled to show grill marks. It was just awful and we should have returned it but we just left most of it. Next up …. The absolutely horrific wines by the glass selection. We aren’t big drinkers but really enjoy a great Cabernet Sauvignon with our steak. I’m not sure who came up with the strategy of … “let’s put the worst wines on the menu at the highest price “ but that’s what they have done. The two recommended wines are J Lohr and Robert Mondovi - both “supermarket wines” and $15-20 for a bottle at our local market. We didn’t care about price - we just wanted something good - we didn’t find it. The service was just fine - that has at least stayed the same - but they won’t be able to keep great serving staff when the customers stop returning.More

Yes - BUT - watch out that they don't shuffle your family off to the left when you enter. That area **seems** to be where families are parked and it's not as nice as the main area.
