Although open again for in-restaurant dining for household groups, we weren’t comfortable with that yet, so ordered our birthday dinner for takeout. The online site to order the meal was easy to navigate, to put in your various preferences and to pay. We arrived at...our chosen pickup time, and the order was ready to the minute. It was all well packaged to maintain warmth. At home we enjoyed the fresh bread and Mushrooms Neptune. Steaks were tender and done just as requested, as was the Oscar side. Twice baked potato and garlic mashed potato, as well as the side veggie were generous portions and tasty. Also liked the mashed cauliflower with tomato, asparagus and garlic. We enjoyed it very much, although we do hope next time can be in person!More

This was our first trip back on Feb 26 at 3:00. We made a phone reservation and had we been informed that it was lounge seating only, would have waited till the dining room was allowed. Two steak meals were fine but sides had changed...from green beans and peppers to carrots. Again, had we been informed on ordering that it was semi-hard carrots (not everyone's taste) we would have subbed something else. After drinks, meals, 2 appetizers, plus ordering 2 appetizers to go, we were presented a cheesecake slice for our takeout bag. Sweet we thought, until we got home and checked our bill (put in bag while paying) and saw we paid for the dessert. Small mistakes add up, but we wish you all success during these trying times.More

It seems that it doesn't matter how many times you go back this Keg, the food never seems to impress. The outdoor ambiance was great, the service great but there meals are typically a 50/50 hit or miss.Last time I was there I ordered the...Chicken and Ribs, so with that you get a drumstick attached to a thigh and a half a rack of ribs. Th ribs had absolutely no flavor (bland) and the chicked wasn't bad but a little dry and overcooked. If you rae spending top prices your food should taste better than what you can cook yourself.Sure is not like it used to be 5 for Ambiance 5 for Service 3 for Value 2 for food and tasteMore

My husband & I dined at The Keg St. James with my sister & brother in law. When we arrived we were greeted outside by an employee wearing a mask. She asked us if we had traveled outside Manitoba in the past 2 weeks &...we indicated we just arrived from Alberta - that didn't seem to be a problem. We sat outside on the patio & since it was a very warm evening it was quite lovely. The tables seemed adequately socially distanced but our server didn't wear a mask. Our meals were outstanding & all our steaks cooked to perfection. Service was friendly & attentive. Conveniently located at the corner of Moray & Portage Ave and a short walk from our hotel. We will continue to return to the Keg St. James when in Winnipeg.More

Our anniversary place to celebrate. Wrong decision mostly. My wife had filet mignon and shrimp without complaint. She said it was good. My steak was cooked right but tough. This is a steak place. Caesar salad was great. More memorable than the steak. At a...steak place. I ordered the classic meal but had to ask for the mushrooms which are advertised as part of it. Not impressed. The Long Island was poor. We were thankful for the free dessert offer because of our 33 yr anniversary. Vanda was good. Place is too dark. Too many other restaurants to repeat this visit. Paid a premium for average.More

We like to visit this Keg every month typically and pretty well much of the time the food is pretty good. I’ve never been a huge steak fan as I find their steaks rubbery, with no juice and no flavour. But every 2-3 months I...will order one hoping that they may suddenly have a decent steak. Last night however my partner and I ordered the New York striploin 8oz and we both added a lobster tail. First off the steaks looked pre- formed and perfectly rectangular which is very unappealing. Typically a steak has no straight lines and doesn’t look like it came from a cookie cutter. This steak did. So did my partners’. Secondly, my lobster tail was mushy, sandy and tasted rotten! It was soggy and dark grey coloured on the bottom of the tail. I almost threw up after eating one bite and informed the waiter that something was wrong with the tail. They politely asked me if I wanted another one but against my better gut feeling let them convince me to have another one. The second one they brought me although puffy and normal in appearance was also mushy on the bottom. I not only waited 30 mins for it but was turned off by both the steak and the lobster tail. My partner did not enjoy his meal neither but because he knew the waiter personally did not want to complain further than we did already about the tail. The waiter was also very annoying and kept coming to the table saying he would be right back every time he came back,,,saying the same thing. It took us an hour and ten minutes before we finally got our bottle of wine! Our drinks took over 40 mins because he kept stalling never wanting us to order anything and brought us bread immediately but we were of course thirsty from the heat and bread and waited so long for our drinks to arrive which was not cool! It wasn’t busy of course due to the covid restrictions and few tables around so not sure why he was running around like a headless horseman! Another problem we have with this restaurant is it is SO BLOODY DARK! Turn on the damn lights! Seniors must trip and fall as the shadows and darkness are completely absurd and cause further suspicion (ie what are you hiding that you don’t want your customers to see type of notion as you are the only restaurant that has it this bloody dark!! It isn’t attractive nor is every couple you g and on a first date so drop the antic already!!). After our dinner the waiter said he would take off the lobster tails from our bill but it still came out to $200 with a tip! We would have given them zero stars if it wasn’t for the yummy cauliflower appie and billy minor pie. But certainly not worth what we paid for for our meals that’s for certain. We will NOT be going back anytime too quickly as they should be ashamed of themselves for serving fake steaks and disgusting lobster tails! I actually felt sick for the rest of the night when we got home! We will not be returning to the Keg for a very long time if at all! We have been to other restaurants recently and the food as you would expect is amazing! Any owner should want top notch quality for the few customers that are out and risking eating out in this age of covid, NOT the opposite! Shame on you Keg for serving low quality at such high prices!!! Signed, sick and disgusted in WestwoodMore

Are family of five visited the keg jan 1 2020. The chicken was decent. But the burger and steak tasted like it had been sitting under a heating lamp for a long time. The ribs where dry no flavor. The bill came out to 210...dollars which is decent. I paid the waitress 300 dollars and she asked if i would like change.More

I have always enjoy the Keg and New Years Eve was no different. We arrived shortly before our reservations and the lobby was packed so we expected a delay. To our surprise we were seated very quickly. We were greeted by our server who was...extremely pleasant. It took a while for the meal to arrive but that did not bother us as it was incredibly busy and the kitchen can only do so much. Food was excellent. The filet mignon was cooked to perfection and the cauliflower mash was very, very good. Even though it was busy, our server was attentive and cordial. If I could give more stars to the team, I would. Happy New Years!More
