I like curry and I like roti so this place seemed perfect. I really enjoyed my lunch here. It is a tiny place with only a long bar with stools for seating. But the small cooking area is right in front of you. I got...the lamb, potato and chickpea roti which is served like a giant burrito. The flavors were fantastic and the lamb meat was tender. The owners love to talk as you eat or wait for a to-go order. Very friendly people. It’s too small for young kids. No alcohol. Prices are on the high side of average but I’m happy to support small places like this. And the homemade hot sauce is great but very hot.More
I visited with my husband and I was left unsatisfied. My husband had the chicken roti and I had the beef roti. Neither tasted good. Also, the place was dirty. The cook's apron had blood on it and brown stains. Such a turn off. I...wasn't the worst roti I've ever had but it had a strange taste. They really need to improve their sanitation.More
In Winnipeg from Montreal for one day on business. Guyanese born, airline employee, well traveled..Read reviews and was excited to taste the food. Ordered goat and chickpea roti. Paid 17$ plus 1.50$(18.50$) tip for takeout.Totally disappointed at the amount of potatoes(not on my order) and chickpeas...used as filler. 4 pieces of goat. Just because there is on competition is not a reason to rip people off.Have a roti craving? save your $$. Most small hidden gems has great food. Not this one.More
This is a little hole in the wall that is easy to miss but the food brings locals in. The owners Famena and Mohamed make a great team. Famena is easy going and pleasant and relaxed, Mohamed is high energy loves to talk with the...guests. The Roti filling is made in a great big pot. The hand make their shells with chickpea flour for a very light phylo style wrap rather than the traditional flour based rotis found in other establishments. If you like fiery foods, the ordinary hot sauce which is made scotch bonnet peppers will be hotter than you find in most establishments . If you are lucky you can sometimes sample the Carolina Reaper/Ghost Pepper sauce that Mohamed is proud of.More
I ate here a few times while in town on business. You should know a few things about this place - first it is in a parking garage, it looks pretty sketchy from the outside. Second - the owners are very talkative. Third the portions...are huge. Fourth - it is super busy at lunch. The food is amazing, like I came back the next day for more. It is now my absolute favourite place to eat in Winnipeg! They make their own hot sauce which is for sale - it is intense - use with caution. You must try this place if you like roti. So good that I can't wait to be back in Winnipeg!More
Not my first time here and certainly, not my last. I love the hospitality and the roti is always a homerun. If Famena is not in the kitchen then, Mohammed will talk you up a storm and cook up a delicious Caribbean delight to heighten...your senses. It's definitely a hidden Caribbean treasure in Winnipeg's downtown area. I had the beef roti with potatoes and chickpeas. If you like it hot then, have it with their in-house hot sauce made with scotch bonnet peppers. After eating here you'll be dreaming of heading down south for a tropical vacation. Comfort food for sure and the portion size will fill you up. Drop in and you'll be back to try everything on the menu!More
Little rough looking not a great neighborhood at night but the flavor is fantastic. The roti shell is light and flakey we'll worth the trip
Some reason this place struck my eye. Hard to find, but if you like curry you will not be disappointed. I had chickpea chicken and rice. I should have split it and had half for later. Mohammed Ali and his wife were very hospitable. It's...all gone....More
The roti as always is amazing and tasty. The selection of food is great, as is the beverage selection! Love the friendly service and the eclectic customer base that is in the restaurant. This is the go-to place for the best Roti in Winnipeg.
It’s a little bit more expensive than the roti at Bindy’s but Famena’s roti is in a league of its own. I had the chicken roti and my husband had the lamb roti and both were so delicious. The serving is so huge that we...actually had enough for dinner as well. I think next time I will try it with rice.More
Had the chickpea chicken roti and it was huge and delicious! Recommend taking food out as the restaurant is small and cluttered. Very nice staff! Is located below a large parking garage.
This tiny crescent restaurant with just a counter, no tables serves authentic food with a varied menu. House made hot sauce is outstanding but be careful with it. Try their oxtail on Thursday and Friday. Food is cooked right behind the counter and the owner...is quite friendly if you engage him or leaves you alone if that’s how you want it. Very hard to find and different atmosphere than anywhere else.More
Hard to find, but well worth the search to discover this amazing gem. There's 12 seats so plan a wait or grab some takeout - whatever it takes to get some of this grub. Caribbean / West Indies food like no other place in town...and the portions are on the huge side of large. We went with a selection of roti (roties, rotus, roto) and they showed up beautifully prepared, hot, slightly spicy, delicious, and huge. There is no equal in town so comparisons are meaningless. The selections include shrimp, jerk chicken, beef, goat...well, you name it and you'll have it. The quality is exceptional and the spices (prepared in house) make the meals. If your roti doesn't come with enough heat for you, just add some hot or extra hot sauce and you will be experiencing some fascinating and delicious reactions. Each meal is made to order and the orderly orchestrated production in that small, small space is yet another magical part of Famena. Not licensed but a wide beverage selection will keep you out of trouble with any hot sauce you may want to add to your meal. Doubles were not available on our visit so we're heading back to check those out as well as new roti selections. The broad menu will take a few visits to get through so return trips are already eagerly anticipated. This restaurant is way too small, the food way too good, and the owners are way too friendly so please don't visit while I'm trying to get my next meal at this fascinating Winnipeg gem.More
Really good food! If you like spicy food, you will love it! Hard to find that's why I have uploaded the entrance pics. But definitely worth way more the effort! Owner is so friendly. The 5 mins I was there, he was on a first...name basis with 50% of the customers. Loved it!!More
