We haven't had food from Winter Gardens for several years and we thought we should try it again. We were very happy with the food. We ordered dry Wontons, Chicken Egg Foo Yung, Ginger Beef, honey garlic veal, lemon chicken, and chicken chow mein. You...get free chicken fried rice when you ordered more than $28. Everything was good except some of the lemon chicken was tough and one white rice was over cooked and was mushy. Our favourite was the honey garlic veal. It was excellent. We ordered take out and we picked it up.More

Ordered a meal for New Year's eve the day before. Had to wait for 45 minutes past the expected time while others were given their meals. Not even an apology, just kept asking how I was going to pay for it. When I got it...home, I didn't get the extra dishes that I was supposed to get when you spend a certain amount of money. The food was at best luke warm to even cold and missing sauces. The quality of the food was mediocre. Definitely will be looking for another restaurant going forward.More

We were out Christmas shopping and we needed a quiet break with a good meal and a hot cup of Jasmine tea. The food here — yes, and the tea —were served quickly and hot, and all was absolutely delicious. This place does not deserve...to be such a well-kept secret in the North End, because it is one of the best Asian restaurant s around.More

I would not recommend eating here at winter garden again. Sad to say, very disappointed , with there combo dishes The rice was too oily and the deep fried meatballs weee fatty and too much coating like eating a cardboard dry., the breaded ribs was...all home and fat, as for the breaded shrimp well same all coating, but more do the vegetables was all sauce slimy, scrap vegetables??????? We have eaten from different Chinese food but not like this . As for the managers concern well it’s how dishes are cooked here and without hasitant he insisted that we still pay the bill , for having such poor quality food. We left a tip on top for the sake of argument, and yet payed basically for just sitting and with dissatisfaction, And disappointment, No for this place. Sorry.More

Six of us met mid-week and we were seated at a large able with center turn-style. The table could actually seat at least 8 or 10 persons. Service was prompt. Food served hot and portions are substantial. Consomme soup with rice was a good starter....Only comment is that i would order chicken or shrimp instead of beef for the sizzling satay sauce dish. Premises are recently redecorated and washrooms are very clean. We will all return again to this location,More

A refurbished interior with subtle oriental touches is a welcome change from the previous decor. The restaurant is in ultra clean shape as are the restrooms...often a tell tale indication of the cleanliness of a kitchen. The servers are attentive without being pushy. Clear descriptions...of the dishes are provided by the menu and by the staff. The dishes are large, well prepared and hot when they came to the table. If one asks for a small substitute to an item this is graciously accommodated. Unlike other dining spots around town. Prices are quite reasonable and the staff are cheerful but not overly solicitous that at some restaurants can become obsequious. I would definitely return to this restaurant to see if these standards continue to be upheld.More

On a fairly large family take out order, the dishes ranged in taste and or quality, from good to poor. Now don't laugh, but the white rice was average while the free with order fried rice was poor. The Singapore style vermicelli was good, quite...good as was the sauteed vegetables. The deep fried prawns was poor with both having far too much batter as well as at least a third of the prawns was over cooked to being hard. The Lemon Chicken also suffered from too much batter while the dry garlic and sweet and sour pork were average. Couple other dishes not mentioned were average. The restaurant was clean and the service was OK, freindly even.More

Friends chose the Winter Garden for dinner, takeout. The Cantonese chow mein was delicious-nice variety of vegetables along with shrimp, chicken & pork. The noodles were kind of crispy which was a nice surprise. The dry breaded veal had good quality meat, however there was...too much breading. Butterfly shrimp were okay, but you could taste the oil, not very appetizing. The honey chicken was surprisingly good considering it was breaded and sitting in a lot of liquid, it wasn’t soggy. Probably due to the heavy breading. Good white meat chicken. Chicken fried rice was average. Alright meal, probably won’t choose this place again, there are a lot more options for good Chinese restaurants in Winnipeg.More

The service was okay, but not great. Once our order was taken, we waited for a reasonable amount of time for our food. It came all at once, except for something we did not order and our garlic sauce. The waitress asked if we were...sure we did not order the ? We said that we had not. The garlic sauce came when we were nearly finished ordering. Our fried rice was a lot if rice, with lots of soy sauce on it, a few pieces of meat and token vegetables (Frozen? ) mixed into it. Our lemon chicken was battered, hard and greasy with a starchy sauce that was supposed to be lemon over it. I did not get a lemon flavour. Our stir fry with rice noodles and vegetables, contained some broccoli that was shiny and not all that crisp. The garlic sauce was pale brown, starchy, and had very little garlic flavor. The ginger beef was scary! It was breaded pieces of not very tender beef, smothered in a bright reddish sweet and sour sauce. There were 5 of us. Nobody ate their "ginger" beef. Our waitress did not approach us during the meal, but offered us containers when we asked for the bill. I told her that we had not eaten the beef nor the garlic sauce and wished for them to be taken off the bill. A young man, the cook, I assume, came over and asked what the problem was. I explained that the food was tasteless and inedible. He said it was our taste preference and that there was nothing wrong with the food. He did say that the beef was in sweet and sour sauce flavoured with ginger bubble tea mix ? I suggested that they use real food ingredients, like: ginger, garlic, lemon. This is a restaurant after all. What a disappointment ! Three of the five of us took Immodium. We did get the beef and garlic sauce taken off of the bill. While we were there, another couple complained about their food, and a man who had had a delivery brought his food back. After a lot of arguing, while we waited to pay, he got half of his money back. The cashier said, that they had to pay for the ingredients and that they had tasted the food !.?Go figure. From what I saw, it as hardly touched at all!More

Ate an early supper there and thoroughly enjoyed it. Ordered Szechuan shrimp, Cantonese chow mein and dry breaded veal. While I've had better veal elsewhere it was fresh and tender. The other two dishes were tasty and loaded with veggies and flavour. The dining room...was spotless with that retro charm. Service was very pleasant, portions generous. Will return!More
