Nice Dinner on a Rainy Port Day

After some axe throwing on our cruise stop in Saint John … we came across this place on our way to another place and stopped in because of the heavy rain. The seafood chowder ($19) had a great flavor with some bread on the side … but maybe a few too many potatoes for my taste. The lobster roll ($28) was more like lobster salad in mayo … but still good on the soft toasted roll and came with really nice homemade fries. DH said the haddock tacos ($19) were excellent … along with the uncharged pickled beet salad ($4). We thought about the 10 oyster & 2 half pints special ($37) … but unfortunately, couldn’t find any of the NE/hazy IPAs we like on tap (and the cider and hard root beer were also excluded). The service was spot on and despite the rain … we had a lovely dinner sitting at a large booth by the window to get our seafood fix.

An Oyster Bar with Oysters!

So good we visited twice! Firstly, we had a couple of beers (blueberry ale and honey wheat ale, as you ask), sat outside under the trees on this lively street just up from the waterfront. Then we returned in the evening for a superb dinner of local oysters (as their PEI branch had none, we did ask in advance!), crisp calamari, lobster two ways and a bottle of US chardonnay. Superb service both times.

We went for dinner and were greeted by awesome staff. Our bartender and server Sam was attentive, engaging. He was knowledgeable and advised us on the menu with recommendations based on our input. He was spot on! While there we were entertained by a local performer by the name of Derek Graham. We felt fortunate that we arrived when we did. He has a varied rang of music, and vocal rang as well.

Disappointing...

Food was very mediocre... probably amongst the worst fish I've ever had... beer batter had no flavour and was very dry/charred... surprising since this place specializes in beers, and is on the east coast. The fries were okay though. Burger was fancy looking but didn't taste like anything special and not worth the price. Sorry to say we regretted having our only dinner out in Saint John here.

Bring your own napkins

Our meals were very good. But the rules! They don't give out 2nd napkins, if you ask for another napkin, they give you bar cocktail napkins and we were made aware of this when I asked for a regular napkin...did not want a black cocktail napkin to cover my white pants. They do not offer small tastes of anything. I don't like goat cheese and the waitress insisted it tasted just like Feta, I like Feta, not goat...she would not bring me a little bit of the cheese to see if I would like it on my salad or not.

Disappointed Saw the Lobsterfest sign and excitedly went in expecting a yummy Lobster treat Sadly extremely overspiced Lobster roll so spicy I didn’t enjoy it at All. Spicy fries as well My husband had haddock which was better I guess in a east coast restaurant I expected more😢

We went here for the first time with a friend and enjoyed the atmosphere and the look of the restaurant inside. They have a good selection of beer and a variety of different flights which was nice. We ordered the fish and chips, the fish was small pieces like a fish stick looks like and overly battered so some of the fish in the middle wasn't as cooked well. It was disappointing for the price of $18 a plate. Our friend ordered the chicken noodle bowl and when we asked our waitress, she said there may be an extra fee to add chicken even though chicken is in the name of the dish. When the dish was received, it had all the sauce on the bottom and crunchy undercooked noodles. Overall, $90 wasn't worth the quality of food we recieved and it was a bad first impression, we won't be back.

lovely patio dining experience

Had a relaxing lunch on the street patio. With a high railing and flower boxes it was almost impossible to tell that we were actually sitting in the parking area of the street and with the full tree cover overheard it was really lovely on a summer day. Our server was excellent; the food was good, as was the beer. I had the Sidney Street Oatmeal Stout (excellent) while my companion had the Raspberry Sour which he liked enough to order a second. Our server also offered to bring me a taste of the Iron Bridge Brown Ale (chocolate overtones) which I would recommend equally with the stout. My only complaint would be that the fries were not fresh cut and I asked for a component of my meal (fish tacos) to be left off and it wasn’t but otherwise a most enjoyable dining experience.

Excellent food and great patio

The experience at Gahan was enjoyable in every regard. Our server was friendly, but not overbearing. Food arrived hot and in a timely fashion. Fish tacos are on lots of menus uptown, but I have to say Gahan tacos are some of the best! Their french fries are really great as well; perfectly fried and salted. We had a spot on the patio, so we enjoyed the summer weather too. The only very minor critique is that the picnic tables could use a wipe-down; it's natural to have some debris on outdoor tables, but skip the bird poo ;)

Great food and atmosphere!

We had a great experience at Gahan House this week. The food was excellent, the atmosphere was inviting with muted lighting and our server Charlotte was friendly and efficient! My wife and I had PEI Mussels as an appetizer, fresh and flavorful. I had the Coconut Chicken Curry with half rice, half fries. It was delicious, especially the curry sauce which was amazing. My wide had the Beef Melt which was piled high with beef. She said it was great as well. We shared a lemon bar with our coffee for dessert which was good. All in all a 5/5 worthy dining experience.

Wonderful seafood choices

I had an appetizer of PEI mussells, which were delicious, and the pan-fired Haddock, also an excellent choice. It was in the middle of the Moonlight Bizarre, so there were a lot of people dining, but the service was very timely and everyone was so courtious. Our waitress was at our table asking if everything was good and offereing to fill our waters and get any more beer. Great place for casual dinner.

Gahan House is a Tasty Retreat!

When one's cruise ship hits town, it is difficult to capture the flovor of a city in a short amount of time. Gahan House was IDEAL! Easy walking distance from the cruise terminal and ready with delectible foods. We had salmon and divine mussels. I don't always even like mussels, but these were in a white wine sauce that ensured they were delectible. The atmosphere is warm and inviting.

Bar good, food soso

The place looks great, but the food is soso. Ordered the seafood chowder and the tuna tartar. The seafood chowder was huge, I was warned, but I wasn't warned that it would be mostly diced potato and crisp celery, which isn't mentioned on the menu with barely any seafood and no fresh basil. The tuna tartar was small in portion to what I'm use to and not bad in taste. It could have more avocado to give it a nice balance.

Huge waste of money! ZERO value!

Just ate here this evening! My wife and two adult sons. Absolutely gross. Brown Bag Chicken and Fish and Chips were over cooked and tasteless. Seemed like the grease in the fryers hadn't been changed in weeks. Beer was only moderately cold. Best part was the Pretzel bread appetizers and they probably came in a box. My fish cakes were ok. $200.00 wasted! Will not be back and can no way recommend. Sad because it is a lovely space. At least we had some time together as a family!!!

Exceptional Spot for a Private Function

Held a private wedding rehearsal party in their Barrel Room (downstairs), great layout, micro brewery feel,private room, private bar, great beers, guest playlist, dedicated team. Pre-selected hors d'oeuvres, followed by a shorter menu. Ben Tsang (manager) was extremely accommodating, printed a special menu for the event. Food & Service was excellent, Highly recommended for a private function
