Had a relaxing lunch on the street patio. With a high railing and flower boxes it was almost impossible to tell that we were actually sitting in the parking area of the street and with the full tree cover overheard it was really lovely on...a summer day. Our server was excellent; the food was good, as was the beer. I had the Sidney Street Oatmeal Stout (excellent) while my companion had the Raspberry Sour which he liked enough to order a second. Our server also offered to bring me a taste of the Iron Bridge Brown Ale (chocolate overtones) which I would recommend equally with the stout. My only complaint would be that the fries were not fresh cut and I asked for a component of my meal (fish tacos) to be left off and it wasn’t but otherwise a most enjoyable dining experience.More

Went to Gahan’s Sept.12/21.......first and foremost Phil you are amazing. You were prompt, polite/gracious and were very attentive to our needs. We loved that you were very exuberant and smiled. Now to the food, EXCELLENT. Hubby had the fish and chips and he kept repeating.”...now thats fish and chips”, meaning thats the real deal. I had the pan fried haddock and I WAS NOT disappointed. No room for desert. This is the first time at Gahans in St. John and it will not be our last. We will see you again.More

I've visited Gahan House several times over the years and have been extremely pleased, however I unfortunately had a negative experience this last time. The server was friendly enough but that was the only positive for me. Salmon was overcooked and over seasoned. Veggies were...raw. I should have immediately sent it back but instead mentioned it to the server at the end of the meal in hopes that the kitchen wouldn't make the same mistakes for other guests. There was no apology or mention of passing along my disappointment to the chef. In the past this has been a great place to visit. For what they charge and what I got, I likely won't be returning.More

We usually love visiting gahan because of the great seafood and friendly service. When calling in to correct an online order, the woman who answered the phone was curt and made us feel like we were an inconvenience for calling in to make a correction...on our order. We realize it was a Saturday and she was probably busy, but she was short and rude. Ordered elsewhere.More

Nice restaurant with a great selection of their own beer. Chowder was delicious. Would have gone back if we had more time. Family friendly.

Always a friendly greeting and the wait staff is always visible when you need a refill or you’re ready to place your order or ask for more napkins! Oysters are delicious of course and they always have baked special on their menu! We always start...with the oysters. Great selection and everything is fresh and tasty! Always a great choice!More

We went here for the first time with a friend and enjoyed the atmosphere and the look of the restaurant inside. They have a good selection of beer and a variety of different flights which was nice. We ordered the fish and chips, the fish...was small pieces like a fish stick looks like and overly battered so some of the fish in the middle wasn't as cooked well. It was disappointing for the price of $18 a plate. Our friend ordered the chicken noodle bowl and when we asked our waitress, she said there may be an extra fee to add chicken even though chicken is in the name of the dish. When the dish was received, it had all the sauce on the bottom and crunchy undercooked noodles. Overall, $90 wasn't worth the quality of food we recieved and it was a bad first impression, we won't be back.More

Was happy to try all three of the Veggie week features. All three where very good! The Beef Bulgogi- I was the most nervous about this one. The "beyond taste" often overpowers or simply doesn't meld with many dishes. It works for burgers... but in...a dish that consists mostly of only beef and rice? Well, it worked! The marinade was very flavourful and it tied the dish together. The "beyond taste" would certainly not be missed, however. And I think another protein may have been a more original, welcomed change. While certainly enjoyable, I don't think I would go out of my way to go get it. (3.5/5) The Soy Curl Stir Fry- Amazing. Very savory, with a generous amount of spices. The soy curls had a satisfying "meaty" texture to them. I would gladly come back specifcially for this dish. (5/5) Jackfruit tacos- It's no wonder they brought these back from the last veggie week; it's a solid home run. The sesame-peanut sauce is always very flavourful, and the jackfruit has a great balance of sweet, salty, savory, and texture. This is one of the top pub dishes in the city, IMO, and would gladly go back just to have it. (5/5) Which is the winner? All 3 and good and I think the jackfruit and stir fry are both amazing, and would love to try them again. I think the jackfruit is a little more perfect and unique, however. If I had to choose which would stay on the menu, I'd choose that one. Servers are very friendly and knowledgeable. (5/5). Had the wheat and brown ale. I could drink that drown ale every day! We tried 3 of the 4 Veggie Week features. The BBQ Jackfruit Tacos are amazing and I hope they move it to their regular menu. It came with peanut-sesame sauce and kimchi which was very good. So good we came twice in one week. (5/5)...The Bolongese was perfectly fine, absolutely safe and edible. It's nice that is was naturally fully vegan, but not really a game changer. (3/5) The zucchini fritters we had on monday had a nice curry-esque taste, but I found them a bit pasty. To veganize it, they come with only the chutney and not the aioli. We loved the chutney, and wish it came with more, but maybe the aioli would have improved the texture. We told the chef and then came back later that week to try them again. And their texture was improved, but the taste was very bitter! (2/5). It's a great place with a nice atmosphere and friendly service (5/5), and their beer is amazing, especially their brown.
