Visited mid week so t was not too busy. Service was wonderful and waitress was knowledgeable about both the dishes and the wine. Good selection of locally sourced food and a appropriate selection to meet most appetites. Nice presentation and wonderful flavours. Will visit again for sure. Reasonably priced menu and wine list.

Previous to our visit on Sunday October 9th, 2016 my rating would have been a 5. On my two prior visits to Bacalao everything was delicious, service impeccable an all round great dining experience. My wife had the duck and I had shark. Both were excellent. The restuarant is divided into small rooms in a lovely old home. It has a lovely comfortable but elegant atmoshphere. Friendly service.

This restaurant is not far from the main shopping area (but up a steep hill). The dining area consists of three rooms, each with a number of tables. There is free parking at the back. The food we had was well cooked and well presented.

We had a really nice supper here. My husband enjoyed the crab cakes, I a salad (special order as to not include duck). I had a vegetarian terrine and he had the cod stew. Terrible experience. The service was extremely slow. My food was not hot. I had fish chowder which did not have any taste nor did it it have any lobster or crab in it (which the menus claimed it did). It did have a couple of pieces of cod that were very chewy.. Had dinner at this restaurant tonight. The greeting was friendly and the atmosphere of the place was warm and comforting. Decided on the salt cod dinner (bacalao) which was great, essence of Newfoundland. My friends had the lamb and halibut and again very good. Desserts were delightful as well and a great culinary experience!

What a great twist on traditional Nfld meals. The wine list is broad for a great selection but I would stay away from the cocktails. Lots of great appies but the mains are pretty traditional except for the salt cod stew. Service is fast and friendly for the 'come from away' gang.
