My fiancée and I were in St. John’s for a few nights in early October to celebrate my 30th birthday and I wanted an excellent meal to commemorate the occasion! Our expectations were exceeded by Chinched! From the service, to the cocktails to the delicious food, it couldn’t have been a better birthday dinner. Cheers to our server who took the time to make recommendations about both the menu and the surrounding downtown St. John’s area! The only drawback is I wish we lived closer so we could visit Chinched more often! Thanks to all! It was a great night! Highly recommend the lamb shank!

My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at this restaurant on a recent Saturday evening. The waiter was very helpful and personable, recommending his favorite dishes and giving us recommendations on other restaurants also. We enjoyed a charcuterie board with flavors we had not anticipated, two creative fish entrees, and a dessert. The recommended wine paired well with our food. This dinner was a highlight of our time in St. John's and we recommend the restaurant highly!

Friends of ours recommended Chinched and it did not disappoint. Our server, Anne, was very attentive and went out of her way to accommodate my dietary restrictions. The chef managed to pull off a version of the potato wrapped cod that was still very delicious despite the many ingredients that needed to be removed from the dish, which is never an easy task! I left happy, satisfied and would highly recommend.

Not sure what the fuss is all about with this place. Chef is obviously trying too hard because the food was unnecessarily complicated.
Not good value for money
Service was slow and inattentive
No bread served but maybe that’s not their bag ..
Quite noisy and a challenge to carry on a conversation with persons at your table.

Just got back from Chinched, which we so enjoyed. Funky atmosphere in an old downtown St. John's house -- not quiet but laid back. Mostly shared dishes on the menu, all of which are well-prepared with lovely combinations of ingredients and tastes. Wine list not extensive but solid. We had the cod tongues (brilliant), pork charcuterie (savoury), and broccoli (such a neat bunch of ingredients). Also the apple streusel for dessert, which was nicely spiced and came with some lovely ice cream. Server was friendly and attentive but not all over us; the pace was a bit slower but gave time to savour. Will definitely return!

This was not a good restaurant experience, not because of the food which was actually quite tasty, but because of the lackadaisical service and the management’s response to our inquiry about our food.
Three tables who came after were served before or at the same time.
No conciliatory gesture was made by the female owner.
These are tough times for restaurants and one would think that customer service should be a top priority.
I tipped, reluctantly, for the kitchen.
We were invisible to the server and not a concern of the owner.
Bad all round.

We got Chinched-In in St. aJohn's... Way better NFLD experience than Screeched-In, (so cliché).
Chinched is truly NFLD food, upscale. Chef-made, everything... From Cackers to Vinegar Pie... Sous-vide pork, with warm potato salad. Light and tasty Cod Tongues .. such a delicacy.
Service is friendly and casual like all Islanders.
Don't miss out on the Charcuterie Boards. Local ingredients, uniquely made.

Chinched was by far the best restaurant that we visited while in St.John’s. The food and atmosphere were great. Similar to other reviewers, we also shared plates so that we had the chance to try various dishes. The pork Bao and Potato Crusted Cod were both outstanding. Would recommend to anyone visiting St.John’s!

Table for 6 celebrating our kids wedding after rehearsal dinner. The atmosphere is very casual and unique. It was shared dishes menu only.
Their Focaccia sourdough was best in my life and I am foodie. Our server, capital- entertainer- was so passionate about his job- hobby that I didn’t know what we loved more: amazing local authentic food or John, who made us feel very special and loved. We had charcuterie board that was very yummy. Duck confit, that crumbled into small pieces in my mouth. Smoked pork shoulder was good, but duck was better. Broccoli done in a very unique manner. Baked and sprinkled with shaved cheese and bits of bacon. Yummy. Boiled carrots in creamy sauce with some spuces(Zadar) and greens. Very delicious. Very memorable place for all of us

A destination spot in St J's.! This is different and tastes really good! OMG scallops like I've never had. Wife had lamb tagliatelle that was awesome. Never had broccoli like that before. Portions were perfect size. As good as all that was, I'd go just for the focaccia! Locally sourced homemade charcuterie was a really nice surprise. Service fell a bid short, though, not bringing dishes together that went together.

Went to Chinched for VDay last night and boy oh boy was it one to remember!! As always, the staff was warm, welcoming and took the time to talk us through each dish. We don’t usually share our meals when we go out (more accurately, my partner doesn’t share his food haha) but with all the great choices on there new menu, we both wanted to have a little taste of everything. We shared 2 starters, and 4 mains between us and I honestly couldn’t pick one fave dish from the next.

Shout out to Chef Emily and the entire kitchen staff for making our first VDay together so special!! Can not wait to get back down to pop a squat at the bar and try the Happy Hour Menu!

Inventive menu, friendly staff, excellent service.
This place is such a winner. The food is always perfectly considered and prepared - you can literally feel the care that goes into the menu and each dish.
The staff and owners are so invested, and so grateful to their customers. Its local, familiar, interesting, adventurous, comforting, all in one!
Always leave feeling happier than when I came!

Found the gem of restaurant in St John’s, fabulous food and service. Menu is different which I like and very inventive.
See photos of menu and a couple of the dishes. We eat the Mexican carrots, the lamb and the cod wrapped in strings of potato.

Out with friends and shared an eclectic variety of apps and mains. Very shareable menu. The cocktails were inventive and worth the price. Good variety of wines and local beer. Everyone told us to try the pigs ears which was interesting …. But a once only thing. All the meats on the charcuterie plate were cured there. Service was good and quick, which was great for a sharing meal.

Given the covid conditions I worry about some of my favourite restaurants. This is one of the best and I have eaten well in over 60 countries. We have been twice this week. Always good, always as local as possible. My son who has cooked in restaurants from Vancouver to Halifax agrees that chinched is the business. Inventive cocktails, great pasta, fantastic meats (their real strength), local beer...
