Ambience fine, but food not what it used to be. Main courses dry (half chicken (!), sea food medley) and uninspiring. Dessert (some kid of gingery cake) basically inedible. We felt we should have gone elsewhere.

Excellent all around. Great food. Great server. Liked the decor. Definitely would return. Portions are ample, don't overdo it!
Had high expectations for this restaurant and was quite disappointed. The goat cheese app was excellent (shared between 4 of us). Wish now we’d just ordered an app assortment. My chicken was so dry, I could barely cut it. Wayyy overcooked and overpriced. I wouldn’t...send it back as we were with another couple and I didn’t want to hold up the evening. They shared bits of their protein with me. My husband did enjoy his ‘special’ but nearly had a stroke when we got the bill and he saw the price. We will not go back.More
This is unusual for me as I never did get the chance to eat here. We were highly recommended to visit Oliver's and showed up shortly after 6pm. There were tables open but we were told we could not enter as we had a 11-year...old child with us. They do not allow children after 6pm!! This is supposedly one of the best restaurants in St. John's, and to have such a policy is extremely poor. Our child is very well behaved and we travel throughout the world about 4 times annually. We have never seen such a policy. The other restaurants in St. John's we visited never heard of such a policy.More
It's unfortunate that you feel this way however, a policy is not discriminatory simply because you don't agree with it. As you said, minors are permitted before 6pm. The evenings are particularly busy and as a result, crowded in our small space. Unfortunately, there have...More
Not a good meal and overall expensive for the quality one would expect. I ate cod covered with bred crumbs, served on a medley of frozen vegetable and small potatoes, all pretty much tasteless, exept for the lemon wedge on the side. The salad was...soaked with a vinaigrette that had to much vinagar in the sauce, dried onions that felt like wood chips. The waitresses didn't even bother asking: how was your food? Efficient but somewhat careless.More
Fantastic! We tried cod dinner with bread crumbs, fresh vege and potatoes and the seafood platter. We shared a seafood chowder! So amazing!!!! Emeline and Matt provided superior service and were very perceptive (they were fab 😜).
This is a great restaurant. The servers are wonderful. The menu is a bit limited but there are usually some additions. Options for the breakfast side of brunch are limited to the standards (egg, benedicts, etc) but all are great. We often go here for...dinner and highly recommend.More
Everything about this meal was fantastic, from the wine to the service to the wee booth I had in the front window. The food was absolute perfection. Go!!!
I had the cod and roasted potatoes with sautéed vegetable medley. Besides the strong taste of Dijon on the fish, the meal had zero taste. It was like a salt-free meal with steamed vegetables. The bread was also not fresh and very small portions. I...will not be back. This is not fine dining and the waitress did not offer to replace my meal or do anything otherwise. I'll take my business elsewhere.More
Really good food in a pretty setting, Oliver's is more upscale than many of the cafes in St. John's. Our group of seven had a variety of dishes - from mussels to seafood chowder - and all were excellent. My one complaint would be about...the menus. They are not "real" (i.e.: paper). Instead, each diner was handed a device that either did or did not continue to work during the ordering process. While it seemed as if the menu was straightforward, having to deal with the tablet was very annoying. Two of them at our table of four went blank, and we were unable to find the app to continue to see the menu. We understand that the senior population might not be the hippest crowd, but we enjoy good food and do tip well. It would be most helpful to be able to read the menu!More
Good food and good service. The food is good but is American stile. The service is great and prompt.
Oliver‘s has a nice description and a good rating, so we decided to have dinner there. It did not meet the expectation. I got chicken breast although half a chicken was announced in the menu. Hand cut fries were the usual (not hand cut) quality,...a lot of skin. Taste was good overall though, but not exceptional. The service was okay but did not be honestly interested in getting an authentic feedback.More
After reading many good reviews and even hearing some people recommend Oliver's we dropped by at lunchtime to make a reservation for the evening. When we arrived it was just beginning to get busy. The tables are quite crowded together so it get warm and...not particularly comfortable. The menus arrived as individual tablets. One had to scroll around and hope that you did not lose the menu. These were very awkward to use. We put in our order and got our warm beer and very expensive wine. The menu was quite limited. Two of us had the special seafood fettuccine, I had the chicken fettuccine and the fourth had the cod fish. I did not enjoy the flavor of the chicken fettuccine at all and did not finish it. The cod fish was not nearly as good as many other places and the seafood fettuccine was not really that great either. Meanwhile, the prices are on the high side. Two of us thought we would try the bread pudding for dessert. That was a mistake. This was by far the worst bread pudding I have ever had. It was like a thick slice of French toast with very minimal sauce. The server was not really very good either. This turned out to be the second most expensive meal that we had in our month long stay in Newfoundland, and it was definitely one of the worst that we had.More
It was the worst experience ,waited on the outside deck for service, finally had to go inside and ask for menu, the waitress finally came one ,with one menu, served us water with no ice, finally took our order ,brought us our food and never returned until we...had to tell her to bring us the bill...very very poor service .More
Amazing place. The atmosphere is romantic and warm. The service is stellar with an excellent waitress. No pretense here. The food is delicious. Dessert was good. Wine is a bit pricy but hey you only live once would definitely return.
