Excellent meal and service

Oliver's is a small seating about 30 people so reservations, particularly on Friday and Saturday are recommended. When we arrived we were seated right away. The server was very friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. The menu is large enough that most will find something they like. Very good bar and wine selection as well. Prices are on the high side but servings are very large and food is delicious. Seafood chowder had big chunks of fish, caesar salad was large enough for two to share, steak was cooked to perfection and balsamic chicken fettuccine was excellent with lots of chicken. In response to the pandemic, they offer electronic menu, have removed a couple of tables to provide more space, and have plexiglass barriers between tables. Overall a very good experience and recommended.

Excellent as always!!!

It has been awhile thanks to the pandemic. Great job in spacing out tables and having plastic sheets hanging from the ceiling to provide additional protection to the side tables. Our server was professional and attentive. Appetizers were of high quality with the freshest of ingredients. Mains were cooked to perfection. Creme brûlée and brownie desserts hit the spot and the kitchen was able to pull together an excellent fruit bowl for my wife ( not on the menu). All in all an excellent evening of food and good wine.

Amazing Supper!

Oliver’s is a beautiful small restaurant in the heart of downtown St. John’s, I recommend booking a table before arriving. I ordered the fillet mignon steak, it was cooked to perfection with lots of flavour! We also ordered the truffle Alfredo, which was very rich in flavour and a large portion. Service was friendly and knowledgeable about the menu. I highly recommend Oliver’s if you’re in the St. John’s area!

Worst breakfast I ever had.

Went here yesterday for our anniversary breakfast as the place looked nice. We were sat in the very first table as you walk in. We both ordered the feature eggs benny's. When the food came it looked decent enough but it was inedible . The cook burnt the English muffin black and hid the burnt under whatever mayonaise disgusting sauce they made( no hollandaise I mentioned it to the server when she finally came to check on us . Her answer was to tell us that the cook likes it to look crispy and proceeded to hand us a $50 bill for our breakfast we did not eat. Absolutely disgusting. The coffee was good but unbelievably bad breakfast. Never have I paid $50 for coffee and a few bites of cold hashbrowns.

Good food

Was really dissappointed at first went in a week before and requested a specific booth I wanted and got seated somewhere else. Never got handled very well all they said was it depends on the night goes where you get seated but why take reservations at all. I strongly believe these booths like the one I requested are held for good customers. Anyway besides that the meal was good I had the tenderloin with blue cheese and enjoyed it. We also had halibut the piece of fish could have been a bit bigger it wasn’t very much, also had cod tongues there could have been more of them too.

Fantastic flavourful brunch on the patio

Oliver’s is my go to spot for a fantastic affordable and tasty meal downtown. The service is always friendly and attentive. The food is well prepared, good portion sizes and flavour combinations are amazing. It’s personally my favourite place downtown because Oliver’s just gets it right on all aspects. The menu showing online is incorrect and they’re in the process of having it amended. I had the tomato goat cheese eggs benny and a mimosa. The eggs benny were very rich and flavourful, a lot of the tomato topper was added and it was just bursting. Also came with a very good portion of hash browns and some watermelon. The mimosa was large and tasty and very well priced. My friend was also happy with her meal. I will be back sooner than later

Take out order of fish and chips, and vegetable korma

Both meals we perfectly cooked. The korma serving was stated as 2-4, could serve 4 easily if not more. Very happy with the quality and serving size. Order was ready and hot for pick up time indicated. Very happy with the meal. Highly recommend!

Cod was mushy in texture, roasted vegetables ok, spicing was adequate but at these prices I'd like to be impressed. I get the impression of a restaurant trading on its old reputation. Service did all the right and usual things. Second beer was warm. Vegan cassoulette was under-spiced to the point of being tasteless. Again, underwhelmed...

Subpar service, good food

We went to lunch, and our main took an hour and thirty minutes to arrive. When we asked the server about it she was argumentative and unapologetic, making it out to be our fault since we ordered an appetizer. Once the food did arrive, it was pretty good. We will not be back any time soon.

The staff at Oliver's is exceptional. I attempted to make a reservation before leaving Nova Scotia, for our trip to St. John's, and received a call back rather than an email response. The decor is cozy and you feel like you're visiting a friend when eating there. Staff went out of their way to accommodate our needs and wants and spent the time to make it a special experience, explaining the menu and wine list in detail. We will definitely go again the next time we are in Newfoundland!

We came very hungry for a late lunch 3:30. I think it must’ve been an awkward time for the kitchen because the service was very disorganized. We got Cod tongues and chowder for an appetizer and they were fabulous! The meals took a very long time. One of our Group got the brunch and her plate had obviously been sitting somewhere for quite a while as nothing on it was hot or fresh . My husband’s fish was very dry and quite cold as well. My salad was excellent and the butter chicken ordered by the other member of our party was tasty . Because we were hungry and had waited a long time we were not going to say anything but when the person who ordered the brunch mentioned the problems, our concerns were very adequately taken care of. They obviously care about their customers and We would go back and try again .

Good but not great

This was not our first time at Oliver's. We were a little disappointed with our meals. The fish platter was nicely presented but everything on it was a little overcooked and dry. The salmon dinner was just a little better. We have experienced great in the past but this time we got an average meal at above average prices. Oh well, maybe we came on an off day.

Outstanding lunch: Regional food and very friendly service!

Locals highly recommended me this traditional restaurant where everything is freshly cooked using best ingredients. There are also daily changing specials so I decided for the Seafood Fettuccine with mussels. Cod cakes as appetizer were delicious, too. Finally cheesecake with wild berries! Good vine recommendations of high quality. Good value for money. I highly recommend this welcoming restaurant and will definitely come back for dinner. I like very much the decor with dark wood, leather seats.

Best restaurant we ate in while in St Johns

We enjoyed an excellent dinner in this restaurant while visiting St. Johns. The staff were extremely accomodating; the food was excellent - well presented, cooked perfectly and served hot. While the price is a bit high, the food and atmosphere more than make up for this price. We would highly recoomend this restaurant when you are in St. Johns. Reservations are needed since it is very popular.

Great Take Out !

Was thrilled when I saw Olivers was doing takeout via Door Dash! My partner & I love the food here, so being able to enjoy it at home was a treat! The Chicken Parm Calzone was pretty good, I cracked it open and added more cheese... because why not !! The Crispy Chicken Sandwich was as good as it always is. The takeout menu has lots of family style options, I’d definitely recommend checking it out to help support our local small businesses during these tough times. Thanks for another great meal Olivers !
