This was our first time at the Red Stag and we will certainly be back. My husband and I both had the celebration burger and sweet potato fries. It was fantastic!

Located just steps from the Alexander Keith’s brewery we stopped in for lunch after our brewery tour. Typical pub food menu with quality brews. Mac and cheese balls were a table hit as were the traditional fish and chips.
Amazing service in intimate surroundings. Any one of the appetizers would have made a meal. The quesadillas were terrific. I had the fish and chips entree and it would have fed two Hungry men. It was excellent. We shared a dessert - cheesecake and enjoyed...that as well.More
My boyfriend and I were visiting Halifax last weekend and I suggested the Red Stag for supper as I’ve always enjoyed the food, atmosphere, and service in the past. This visit, however, made me a little embarrassed that I chose this restaurant out of all...the other amazing places to eat in Halifax. First, we ordered the lobster dip and tomato dip - neither one of us have ever been so disappointed with an appetizer. The portion was incredibly small for the price compared to portions of hot dip in most pubs. The food came with plenty of nacho chips, pita bread, and baguette, but the dip itself was so sparse that we could see the bottom of the little cast iron pan before we even began eating. Needless to say, we both felt quite let down by the quantity but also by the fact that neither one of us could find a chunk of lobster in it. Maybe it’s puréed? If so, not a great call on their part. I had the stuffed chicken and have to say it was delicious! I honestly have no complaints and would order again, if I were to return. My boyfriend ordered the Mac n’ cheese and said it was pretty good, but definitely not the greatest. Finally, the server was mostly absent and seemed bored/insincere the couple times she did return to the table. Everyone has a bad day, but she couldn’t even pull of pretending to want to be there. Overall, pretty let down by the experience at the Red Stag this time around. Would consider going back, but I don’t think I’d be comfortable recommending the restaurant to a friend.More
Tonight just wasn’t our night I guess. We arrived around 6:30 and the place was pretty busy. We stood at the door for about 5 minutes and no one acknowledged we were there. There was no sign stating to seat yourself or to wait to...be seated so we just awkwardly stood there until another patron offered us their table as they were leaving. So we sat at their dirty table for a moment and a server came over and said someone was waiting for the table. Totally cool, had no problem with that and didn’t want to take someone’s table. So we got back up and stood awkwardly at the entrance again until we flagged down one of the servers and asked if we should seat ourselves. She pointed to a table in the back that people were leaving from and said to sit there. Sat down at our table and they came by with menus after a few minutes. Wouldn’t have minded a drink by then, but she didn’t offer. She returned a few minutes later and we ordered our food and drinks together. We ordered the quesadilla, nachos wings, and bruschetta. The quesadilla was burnt and only the inside was edible, but we couldn’t eat it before it got cold because we had no cutlery. The nachos were average. The bruschetta was very good. Asked for napkins twice, water twice and a side sauce twice and had to remind her we were still waiting for the ones we had already requested. When we were done we asked for the bill and paid with gift certificates we had. She brought them back and said that if we wanted to leave a tip we can at the bar with debit. Safe to say we won’t be back. Hopefully our experience was just a bad day for us and the people working, and that it wasn’t typically like this.More
The Stag is one or our favourite places to eat in Halifax. Very fast, friendly, and efficient service. Food was nicely presented, hot, and tasty. The chicken quesadillas were delicious, as was the pan fried haddock. Didn't have space to finish the cheesecake but had...it boxed to enjoy later .... which I did, and it was yummy.More
Hi Wendy Thank you again for the kind words. We take great pride in having the friendliest and most fun staff in the city. I'm glad you enjoyed everything and I hope we see you again soon!
Very nice atmosphere. Had the seafood linguine. It was very tasty but needed garlic. Appetizers were quick to arrive and dessert was lovely. It had been years since we'd been there but we'll definitely go again.
Thank you for the kind words. Also thank you very much for the feedback on the linguine I will mention it to the chef. I hope to see you again soon!
We stopped in for a bite to eat on our way to a Mooseheads game. I had the pan fried haddock. It was a nice big thick fillet and it was cooked perfectly! Absolutely delicious! The service was fast and the servers friendly and attentive....I really liked the atmosphere!More
Hi Lloyd Thank you very much for the kind words. We always love hearing good feedback about the things we take pride in here at The Red Stag. I feel we have a friendly staff 2nd to none! Hopefully see you again soon!
Food is always delicious, I've not had anything there I didn't love and the staff are always serving with a smile!
Hi Brittany Thank you for the kind words! We take great pride in having the friendliest staff around. What can we do to turn that 4 into a 5?!
Came with a group of 6 to get a light lunch and a drink while touring the town. We got seated fairly quickly which was nice. We asked to sample a few beers before buying and were told no. Ok water it is....lost sale for...the pub. Ordered fish and chips.....average size and taste. The chowder was really good. Service was slow and she seemed to be taken back that she had to wait on us.....um HELLO this is your job right? I can't say this was the worst place I have ever been to but it certainly was far from the best. With choices around, go elsewhere!More
Hi there I am very sorry to hear of this experience. Were you in yesterday? I am going to follow up and see why samples were denied and see what was going on with the server. If you can verify the date and time you...More
