Waiter was unattractive. Atmosphere not good .We were celebrating Birthdays. Steak was dry and tasteless. Not at all what I expected for over a $600.00 night for a family of five

The staff is well-trained and attentive. The steak met expectations. The sides were absolutely horrendous. The mashed potatoes were dripping butter and appeared to be instant. The chefs mixed vegetables served with only eggplant, a white sauce, and nothing else. The carrots were basically tasty,...however, served with a thick white sauce, not good. We were served only two sourdough rolls, which we did not like. The advertised chocolate cake was a small Costco-like dessert. The coffee was totally undrinkable. Overall, not a good experience. Will not be returning.More

The atmosphere is nice and the staff was great. We enjoyed our starters even if the tartare was average. The steaks were tasty and tender, which was our least expectation considering the price, but they do not come with sides or sauce. Not a bad...experience but extremely expensive. If you are a wine lover, the selection is impressive. However I am not sure I would order a Sassicaia or a Margaux from here as the cellar door was left open all the time we were there. That was our first time and likely the last as I think the Keg is a better option.More

This restaurant came highly recommended and I was not impressed. I’m a picky eater but managed to actually enjoy my meal. My husband decided to treat himself and order the Wagyu Ribeye. I was so excited for him too! It honestly was ‘a regular steak.’...Very tough, definitely needed a steak knife to cut into it! I ordered the half hen. It was ok. Cesar salad was delicious. We were happy to have the experience but disappointed in the food. Side note, a little loud for my liking. It was hard to have a conversation with just the two of us. Happy we went but I wouldn’t return.More

From A-Z this steak house is one of the best. Beats all the name franchised steak houses easily. From the first rate Caesar salad prepared at the table to the phenomenal aged steaks and a great maitre d it was an excellent experience. We will...be back.More

We went for our anniversary dinner, and we’re impressed they offered us a free glass of champagne. However, the rest of the night went downhill when we got our food. The baked potato was over cooked with so seasoning whatsoever - it tasted like they...boiled a potato in a pot of unsalted water and didn’t ass any butter/seasoning, it was also half burnt and inedible. The cauliflower (seasonal vegetable) was underwhelming and mushy. Our steaks were also disappointing. The PEI tenderloin was stringy and bland (didn’t even taste like it had been salted), the Alberta strip loin was overdone, extremely dry and equally bland. For the price we paid for this meal, we were expecting much better- I’ve had far better steaks in Halifax for much cheaper. We probably ate less than half of what we ordered it was so bad! When we told our waiter our concerns with the food, he shrugged and said he hoped we would give Cut another chance…absolutely not… the restaurant did not take anything off the bill, despite it being obvious we did not enjoy our meals in the slightest. As if the night couldn’t be worse, my partner and I overheard the wait staff make several INAPPROPRIATE and RACIST comments. There was one noticeable person of colour working at Cut. After this person dropped off bread and vegetables to our table, we overheard a different white staff member say to the bartender “Brown guys eh? Can’t do anything right…” The bartender responded “Hey man, be careful, you don’t know who is here tonight…” Later that evening we overheard the same two staff talking about a regular customer named “Carol” and how hot she was amongst other things- they said some pretty grotesque things that I will not repeat. So inappropriate and unprofessional. We were more disgusted with the staff than we were the food. Save your money, go anywhere else instead.More

Group of 6 got together for a steak dinner and drinks. Service was slow. One of our group had their steak improperly prepared and it was not a quick or easy fix to problem. My steak was $79 and I can honestly say I’ve had...much better steaks and sides at many pubs or other restaurants. Wait Staff were friendly. Way too many good restaurants in Halifax for food of this quality for this priceMore

I’ll start by saying my hubby & I make a point of going to this restaurant once a year for the last 7 years. It’s our one “special” night out where we treat ourselves to very fine dining no matter the cost. I had visited...the cut with my girlfriend back in November, and we both looked at each other when we got to the car & said “it was different this time” we both agreed that it was okay, but it had lost that “CUT” excitement & it didn’t feel like it was worth the money we paid. Last night, hubby and I decided to do our yearly treat, I have to say again that it has lost its touch of being a $300 + steak experience. The steak was Luke warm, and did not have that YUM you can’t get this anywhere else taste. The mushrooms were so runny & salty we could barely eat them. The potatoes average at best. Overall , when we got the bill we just felt like, we could of went to the keg for better tasting food & more of it. Nothing comes included with your $80 + steak, potatoes are $12+, and nothing has that “worth every penny” taste anymore. You use to get a basket of different breads, with different butters, you now get 2 biscuits and one kind of butter, banana bread on the way out was a huge hit, and very delicious this is now a blueberry cupcake that is not nearly as tasty. All the little extras that use to make this place desirable and delicious feel like they are gone. Sadly I think we have ended our 7 year tradition , and not sure we will return. Not sure if there has been changes within the restaurant, but we certainly miss the CUT experience we use to have. The service is exceptional I might add, but Sadly the food doesn’t match anymore.More

I'll start by saying the staff is lovely, they works really hard to ensure you are comfortable. And the ambiance is beautiful. The problem was the food. The steaks were not great, not seasoned at all, not even hot. The Seafood Tower is foolish, a...tiny bit of crab legs, so small you can't even crack them, 6 oysters, some shrimp, mostly garnish. One of the members of our party ordered the duck and he couldn't eat it, it was so tough. The Ceasar Salad was good. But there was nothing about the meal that felt thoughtful. It's lovely when a steakhouse knows to have some steak salts on the table, but there was nothing like that. I was there a few years ago and it was as good as Jacob's in Toronto. This time we wished we had gone to the Keg. The food would have been better at a quarter of the price. Spoke to friends and they said they felt the same way. Shame.More

I called to make a reservation and the manager answered the phone with Cut or Shuck being as we are not from here and he said it so fast as well as my hearing I said pardon. He repeated it and I said oh ..Cut...then he said HOW MANY IN YOUR PARTY ? I said two he said…we are fully booked for tonight. I said so if I would of said 6 people I would of got in? Because he should of said he was fully booked before he asked me how many in my party. Then he HUNG UP on me!! So I went through open table reservation and they gave me the choice of 5:15 and I booked that. When we got there at 5:15 the place was empty. One other table had three people and a baby at it. I had asked him for a reservation for 6 and he never offered an earlier time. So we sat down the waiters where great we had a good meal and spent 200.00 we where done by 6:30 and the place was still empty as you can see by the picture I took. I took that picture when we left. Then we tried the next night to book at Shuck tonight and when I called he said he had a table at 4 o’clock then I said sorry I have to cancel. So we left the hotel 5 minutes later and he said he gave that table away. We are staying at Marriott Courtyard and this restaurant is at the entrance door so close. The place again was empty at 4:15 we eat early. I told him thanks and by the way you should’ve hung up on me last night and he went nuts. Said I was rude to him because I didn’t know the name of the place. Went walked across the small ally way and he followed us into the hotel in front of the hotel front desk staff and said write a review if I want it wouldn’t do any good as he gets great reviews. I said well if you are in charge of your staff you should lead by example and this isn’t it. Two front desk staff witness his treatment of me. So as for the food it was good but this is for management that you need to replace this guy. Never should he follow guests into their hotel and yell at them. We walked by this restaurant 2 hours later after we ate somewhere else and there where plenty of empty tables available.More

From appetizers through to dessert we had a wonderful experience. Staff were friendly and attentive. Our Caesar salad was classically prepared table side with an extra hit of garlic, perfect. The ribeyes were cooked to order, accompanied with mushrooms and loaded baked potatoes. The maple...crepe brûlée was a nice way to finish our meal.More

The atmosphere is lovely and high end. It is very comfortable and the staff can’t do enough for you. It is very expensive though but the service was worth it. My husband who is very fussy loved his steak and baked potato and he is...VERY particular. He had the 10 oz tenderloin. Said it’s the best steak he ever had. I had the Alberta rib eye. It was very good but I have actually had better. (Sorry!) I also had the steak frites which I thought were usually “fat” but these were more like shoe string style. Just a little over cooked for my liking but the garlic aeoli dip was delicious. We did not have time or room for dessert. And the Caesar salad is an experience all it’s own. Made right at your table from scratch. It was really good and so fresh! We would probably go back but only if we had more time to really enjoy the experience. 2 meals with appetizer and one pop came to $194 plus tip.More
