I struggle to review Julep fairly. We went on a Friday evening. We made a reservation and were told that we had a maximum of 90 minutes, which threw me a bit. I understand that with COVID capacity limits, they don't want you staying forever,...but this impacted our enjoyment of the experience. So here are the positives: The room is nice. The food was delicious, nicely presented. The menu choices were inventive. Service was professional and relatively attentive. Servers didn't mingle with us, but we don't need them to be our friends. I had the bacon and pear salad and the seared scallops. Both were delicious. My partner had the empanadas and the steak frites. He enjoyed both. Here are the negatives: There was so much crushed ice in my drink, that I couldn't consume much more than a tablespoon worth. It was a julep, which I think was delicious, but I paid $15 for one sip. The paper straw and crushed ice (it was essentially a snow cone) meant it could not be consumed. This was the NOISIEST restaurant we have ever been in. There were patrons shrieking, laughing, shouting and there was loud music directly over our heads. The sound of cocktails being repeatedly shaken at the bar added to the incessant din that we experienced. I'm not talking about a bit of background noise -- I am talking about the noise level you might experience at a loud sporting event or loud concert. After 10 minutes, we wanted to have everything "to go" and sit in the car in peace and quiet. We left after 45 minutes, since we couldn't relax, couldn't talk to each other, and both had headaches and indigestion. We didn't even want to see a dessert menu. $150 for 45 minutes that left us desperately wanting to leave just isn't good. If you like LOUD, LOUD dining experiences, this would be a great place for a party atmosphere. If you want an intimate setting and want to talk to your dining companions, we can't recommend JULEP. Please understand that the food was 5 starts and the service was 4 stars. The experience for us means that we would never return.More

I have gone a number of times for lunch by myself and several times for dinner with friends. The food and the staff are consistently top notch and every time I have had an excellent experience.

I gave Julep a second try recently, it had been about 9 months since I had been in. The location is great. it is right on Barrington St. The service was great, I had a martini, it was really good. My biggest dislike is the...place feels cold, it has high ceilings and gives off an industrial vibe. If I went again, it would be for a quick drink. I don't think a complete meal would be very comfortable.More

Definitely make a reservation and check out this downtown favorite. Outside seating offers interesting street scape views. Inside dining and now bar seating has returned.

We had lunch on the patio but the interior looked lovely. We had the duck ravioli and the seafood stew and both were delicious and there were so many other things on the menu we wanted to try. We will have to come back. Service...was efficient.More

I always enjoyed going to Chainyard and loved their food and I had a couple of take out from Julep while there was no dine in. I visited the place two times recently and I the food is exceptional. Our server Devin recommended the daily...special and I have to admit, it was one of the most unique dishes I ever had. The food here has flavor and it is unique unlike other downtown restaurants serving pretty much the same dishes with a little bit tweak here and there. Usually order a bottle of wine whenever going out so my only problem at this restaurant is the horrendous price of wine. I know how much each wine cost at the store in their wine list but charging a $ 15 wine $ 45 is pure thievery. Thus 4 stars. If the wine is somewhat moderately priced will go here more often and won't feel jipped.More

Had a great meal at Julep tonight. Server was wonderful and food was delicious. Unfortunately our trip was soured by one particular bartender who chose to wear his mask over his beard while fixing drinks. Overall felt safe with all COVID protocols being followed and...would go back. Hopefully they can remedy the situation behind the bar.More

My boyfriend and I came here for our anniversary at the start of the month and had the best time!! Service was great, the atmosphere was very relaxing and welcoming. There is so much detail in their meals, so many little and well thought out...things to bring the entire experience together. Cocktails are incredible as well. We will definitely be back. Thanks again!More

I only discovered this restaurant recently and what an outstanding gem to find in Halifax. Barrington St. is now one outstanding eatery after another but this one stands one in my mind. The layout is wonderful and conforming to all the social distancing requirements in...place at the present time but it still have a real vive to it. The cocktails were outstanding and the food unbelievable. The menu is very manageable and the intent is to return many times and try everything on it.More
