Their website ad describes their dining as "debaucherous". Glad I didn't see that before going in. Their food is very, very good. Both the 90's fettucine and Four cheese gnocchi were as good as I've had at any other restaurant. Full of flavor and I...didn't feel debauched after dinner. They might consider firming up the gnocchi which were a bit on the loose side, but very good just the same. As an added bonus, this was the only restaurant I visited in a weeklong trip to NS that knew how to make ice tea without my direction. Bravo!More
I have been to Julep numerous times since it opened, and I have never been disappointed in the food or the service. Their cocktail menu is superb, and the food menu always has something unique and delicious. They consistently add new items for a change...of pace, which means there’s a reason to go again no matter what! The only thing that I was sad to hear on my most recent visit is that they removed their Southern Sweets Board, which I recommended to everyone I knew, and went there just for that at times (it was a charcuterie style dessert board). Hoping they bring that back, but other than that, everything is top notch.More
First day in Halifax. So where to eat? Julep was close to our hotel, looked interesting and we were not disappointed. Friendly staff, great ambience and background music with a terrific wine list with enough local choices to entertain overseas travellers and the food was...delicious. Great place to catch up with friends or for a dinner for 2More
We made reservations months ago. Dinner on a Sunday night, patio was hoping so we took a table inside. The host was charming and prompt. I stopped at the bar to see their great selection of Bourbon and single malts. Julie looked after us and...she did a great job making us feel special, offering informed recommendations on all the menus. My partner had one of their specialty cocktails, very well received and I had my favourite. We had apps and mains and oysters. They were very accommodating to offer hot and raw options. To be honest, the food was fabulous. Chef Adams did an amazing job on every dish. We'll be back at least once more before our vacation ends, great spot in the middle of the noise.More
We may bed on from a “fancy” restaurant, and we’re so glad we did. The cocktails, food, dessert and service were perfect. Definitely order the Chocolate Indulgence. One of the best meals I’ve ever had. Kudos to the team!
We visited Julep last night for date night. We had made a reservation and when we arrived we greeted right away. As it was later in the evening there were a few table options, but we decided to sit at the bar. We are so...happy we made this choice!!! Our bartender, George, was amazing. As we aren’t drinkers George was more than happy to make us amazing mock tails to try. We ordered half of the menu, I’m not even kidding! We spent a couple hours chatting and trying different dishes from the menu. George made great suggestions and we received the best service we have had anywhere since Covid. Although there were a couple dishes we tried that weren’t to our liking we would still give Julep a 10/10 on all aspects from service to food to ambiance. Well done!! If you’re looking for a friendly bartender, great food and cocktails head in to Julep! We left phones at the hotel for date night so unfortunately we have no photos to post, but the proscuitto and cheese board, cauliflower tacos, and seared scallops were among our faves. Also the chocolate indulgence was off the charts!More
Don't mind paying for a great meal and a great night out. But Julep underwhelms. A $35 chowder! All of our food was fine but priced like it should blow us away. We were on our way to see Sting at Scotiabank Centre. It is...a nice, bright space to enjoy a cocktail otherwise no value here. So many better options out there.More
Very noisy, not a relaxing place to have a late supper , the waiter was almost putting pressure for us to order , everything was done without giving us the chance to relax and enjoy our meal , for the price of the plates and...overpriced glass of wine leave us time to taste it and enjoy it !!!More
Really unique, fun cocktails and a fun, stylish vibe. Great location and services. We didn't eat there, but the food looked great too.
Came upon the Julep Sunday afternoon, making our way from the Historical Properties to our accommodations up the hill at the Prince George Hotel. Stopped in for cocktails only. What a pleasant time! Loved the ambience, the courteous staff and the designer cocktails. Happy to...have made a spontaneous stop in.More
Two visits to Juleps, principally because I enjoyed their signature cocktail. Both occasions food was good and service very attentive. Reckon that the cooking was a touch better for dinner than lunch.
The food was ok. The rabbit ravioli hardly had any filling in it. The sauce was good. The seared tuna was dry and the risotto was not warm The cauliflower tacos were plump and delicious The scallops ceviche was just ok. Service was bland, we...mentioned to the server that the seared tuna dish was dry, and she really did not seem to care. There is no reason that we would go back.More
I struggle to review Julep fairly. We went on a Friday evening. We made a reservation and were told that we had a maximum of 90 minutes, which threw me a bit. I understand that with COVID capacity limits, they don't want you staying forever,...but this impacted our enjoyment of the experience. So here are the positives: The room is nice. The food was delicious, nicely presented. The menu choices were inventive. Service was professional and relatively attentive. Servers didn't mingle with us, but we don't need them to be our friends. I had the bacon and pear salad and the seared scallops. Both were delicious. My partner had the empanadas and the steak frites. He enjoyed both. Here are the negatives: There was so much crushed ice in my drink, that I couldn't consume much more than a tablespoon worth. It was a julep, which I think was delicious, but I paid $15 for one sip. The paper straw and crushed ice (it was essentially a snow cone) meant it could not be consumed. This was the NOISIEST restaurant we have ever been in. There were patrons shrieking, laughing, shouting and there was loud music directly over our heads. The sound of cocktails being repeatedly shaken at the bar added to the incessant din that we experienced. I'm not talking about a bit of background noise -- I am talking about the noise level you might experience at a loud sporting event or loud concert. After 10 minutes, we wanted to have everything "to go" and sit in the car in peace and quiet. We left after 45 minutes, since we couldn't relax, couldn't talk to each other, and both had headaches and indigestion. We didn't even want to see a dessert menu. $150 for 45 minutes that left us desperately wanting to leave just isn't good. If you like LOUD, LOUD dining experiences, this would be a great place for a party atmosphere. If you want an intimate setting and want to talk to your dining companions, we can't recommend JULEP. Please understand that the food was 5 starts and the service was 4 stars. The experience for us means that we would never return.More
I have gone a number of times for lunch by myself and several times for dinner with friends. The food and the staff are consistently top notch and every time I have had an excellent experience.
