A top-notch dining experience, on par with the best in much larger cities. We were walkins on Thursday evening, but was a fortuitously quite night and we were greeted immediately and seated promptly. Service was impeccable the entire night - our server was always attentive without being overbearing, and guided us through the menu, customizing how things were coursed and paired. Room, like the food, is simple yet elevated. It was warm and inviting, suitable for a romantic dinner, special occasion, business meal, or just catching up with family and friends.
Everything we ate was perfectly prepared, incredibly satisfying: grilled oysters, pickled cauliflower salad (so much going on yet well balanced), lamb ragu gnocchi, and bread putting with black sesame ice cream. All interesting without trying too hard to be "inventive." It was elevated comfort food. Fun cocktails that went well with the initial plates and nice selection of wines by the glass, including some knockout QC whites.
Cheese course was a bit skimpy on the serving size, but came with ample bread and condiments (which we ended up eating all of). Also would have preferred a bit more cauliflower in the cauliflower salad (ie, was heavy on the other components), but both of these small hiccups were not enough to remove a star from an exemplary evening.
Three courses with cocktails and wine pairings tallied up to ~$100/person. Pricey, but absolutely earned. Would definitely like to come back to explore the rest of the menu.

Edna blew our expectations away. This place can hold its own in Napa or any major city like NYC or SF. We ordered a lobster halibut arancini ball (for $15! Deal of the century!) , had an incredible radicchio salad + our mains (lobster tagliatelle and arctic char) was on point. Paired that with oysters and some great martinis and we had a splendid evening

I’ve been coming to Halifax for years and haven’t crossed the side of Cogswell when staying downtown. It’s worth it.
Braised beef with a peanut sauce and turnips for appetizer. (A special that I think they bring out once or twice because my server said she had had it in the past ). I had Gnocchi for main dish. Both were quite good. I particularly liked the braised beef it had a very nice peanut sauce, Although the turnips were delicious, they're a bit hard to eat. The gnocchi in a creamy butternut sauce.
That atmosphere is very nice. quite small and I would say romantic, on the darker side. I sat at the bar. Service was excellent.
And. They had a nice Tawny Port on desert menu

I had not been to Edna for a few years. We were there for dinner and the food and drinks were delicious. The Amuse was yummy Arancini. We all had the seared scallops which were cooked perfectly and served with curried squash and veg. For dessert we split the sticky date with sesame ice cream. The star was the ice cream which was so creamy and flavourful. We sat at the bar as it was a busy Sunday and there were no tables available. The bartender was busy and found time to be friendly. Thanks to Edna for a lovely evening and reminding me how great you are. Great job everyone!

Excellent food. Each dish was delicious and all the ones we tried tasted so different. They had nice portions. They use unique ingredients that we weren’t familiar with but we loved every dish. Make sure you save room for desert. The service was amazing. Kathy was attentive to everything we needed but was never hovering. She had a great sense of humour and her food recommendations were bang on. I would highly recommend this restaurant.

Chose this restaurant based on the reviews and we weren’t disappointed. Everything we had was beautifully cooked and presented - the tamari glazed cabbage with the scallops was especially tasty. Thoughtfully created food with flavourful twists, this restaurant is a gem, just wished we lived in Halifax!

Service was great . Setting quaint. . Wine selection adequate . Appetizers also very good. Steak tartare and Asian Arctic char. Main courses were very disappointing. Duck confit with very oily fries overpowered with tarragon and goopy fennel. Steak was also covered in too much to appreciate the meat. Anticipating better

OMG, the best food we have eaten since we got here.
Slightly out of the ‘tourist’ zone but only 7 mins walk down Gottingen Street.
Perfect in every way, staff so delighted, we didn’t feel rushed.
Food was beyond tasty, braised beef was amazing and the halibut cheeks were incredible.
Defo recommend this place. Edna.

We had tried to dine here several times, with no luck. It was well worth the wait.
My partner had the barrata and the rib eye steak. Both were very flavourful and creatively prepared.
I had the arctic char amuse bouche, followed by the beef tartare and the duck breast. Everything was top notch, with inventive flavours, cooked perfectly. We each had a pre-dinner drink, and I had a couple of glasses of wine. We finished with ice cream for my partner and the pistachio cake for me, with coffee. All were delicious.
Service was well timed, professional, and cordial.
The prices were what we expected, given the quality of the food, and we felt that the meal was good value compared to other similar spots.
We find that every restaurant is too loud. This time it was too loud, mainly because of an inconsiderate diner seated next to us, who wanted everyone to know about his new business ventures. I would suggest going early or going mid-week, as I am guessing that weekends would be particularly loud. A table in the back might be a good choice.

Our original plan was changed last minute and we pivoted to a walk-in early-bird dinner at Edna Restaurant. They were able to accommodate us at 17:00 on a Sunday evening without reservation. We also had another appointment at 18:15 and therefore had to rely on a fast service.
We went with two starters and two mains as well as a dessert to share.
One of the starters had a piece of mussel shell in it, on which my girlfriend cut her lip. This was extremely unfortunate as the dish tasted great. The staff was very accommodating and offered us to replace it with another appetizer. But as we were short on time we did not avail of that option. They were nice enough to remove it from the bill. The other starter was a salad, which was also quite tasty.
The highlights of the dinner were the mains, however. We had the Arctic Char and the Gnocchi. I would rate both of them 9 out of 10. The fish almost made a full 10/10 score, which is something I rarely give out. The char itself was cooked to perfection with a crispy skin and soft middle. The snow peas and corn to go with it had a sour note which rounded up the flavor profile. It had a bit too much oil and salt, but otherwise it was a glorious dish indeed.
For dessert, we had the pistachio cake. It was decent but pales in comparison to the main course.
The service was swift yet unrushed. We were in and out in 50 minutes as needed. I can highly recommend Edna to everyone despite the faux pas with the shell.

My wife and I took our son and daughter-in-law here for a celebration dinner earlier this week. The food was excellent and great, friendly staff. They easily accommodated my fish and shellfish allergy and one of our group is vegetarian. Not a huge menu but everything was well prepared. Kudos to them as well as our 11 month old grandson was with us, and they accommodated us graciously. Would definitely recommend this restaurant.

My son and I had dinner last night at Edna's. Cathy was our waitress - very friendly and efficient. I had the grilled Caesar wedge to start and for the main course, the seared scallops with miso sunchoke puree. My son had a starter which was one of the specials - a tomato on toast and then he had the pork belly and squid. Our meals were very delicious!! When we left, the different staff members we walked past all thanked us and wished us a nice evening. We will definitely return.

There was never any doubt that this was the only place we could celebrate my daughter’s twentieth birthday: my husband had been with her last year and as soon as we had decided that I would fly over to be with her on this very special occasion he was adamant that we make the reservation. And now I can see why: gorgeous glowing decor and a warm welcome on a cold wintry night, fabulous food, and thoughtful touches from the staff. We will certainly be back when we have another reason to celebrate in Halifax! Many thanks to Heather and Brad and the team.

Everything from the amuse bouche, to the sticky toffee (miso)cake with black sesame seed ice cream was wonderful. The rib eye steak was one of the best I've ever had. Tuna poke app. had chunks of tuna and the perfect balance of spices and marinade.. the perfect space with tables and bar seating. Enthusiastic staff. Add to your bucket list when you're in Halifax.

We found the food to be well prepared and fresh. There was great flavour and portion sizes were perfect. We had the calamari and tuna tartare for apps. For mains the steak and their special at the time which was gnocchi. The tuna tartare was my fav part of the meal.
They had a good selection of desserts however we found them quite pricey. We don’t mind paying around $10 for a dessert however the ones we were eyeing up were $14, which is a little steep. Although I’m sure they would be very tasty.
Overall a great spot, nice atmosphere, although tight quarters. I’d suggest if you have the option to request where you can be seated, sit at the bar or closer to the front of the restaurant. The back is a bit dark and you only have a view of the kitchen. Their brunch menu looks amazing, so we’d like to return for that.
